    Excellent video thanks very much for this. The ptfe tape is far better than the o-ring that comes with this style of vents / plugs (just had a 10 year old set fail on me) Your method of repeatedly applying the ptfe to achieve a good fit works a treat. Thankyou 👍🏻

    Thank you Mark, very good video👍👏 one question; after I isolate the two valves (as per start of your video), should I expect a lot of escaping water flow when I open the blanking plug?

    • @connorlumsden3950
      @connorlumsden3950 2 года назад

      Was there alot of water escaping did you find?

      @@connorlumsden3950 Hi Conor, no, not very much; I wasn’t sure what to expect so I opened the blanking plug slowly… I think because the pressure had been taken off by closing the other valves, there wasn’t much spillage. I simply got a small plastic container (the right shape - with a corner to get in under the blanking plug!) and let the water spill into it. I didn’t have to have a large basin or anything by way of back-up! I hope you find the same. From memory, I think I also had a few attempts at sealing it up before I was satisfied that I’d used the right amount of tape, but I got there in the end and it hasn’t leaked since 👍😉

      @@michaelcarroll4330 I'm planning on using a new plug with a new rubber o ring so hopefully that'll be enough, thanks for the detailed reply though much appreciated.

    Thank you for this simple video but as an idea could you mention the size of the tools and possibly the size of a replacement washer…. Which maybe easier?

    Was there a reason for the PTFE tape? Could of just replaced the O ring washer

  • @IBIZABIKE

    What size o ring ? No one seems to know, I have been buying plugs with a ring on to to the 2 min job

  • @Vixtoria247
    @Vixtoria247 3 года назад +1

    Does that mean you don’t put the O ring back on the blanking plug before putting the PTFE tape on? The tape does the job the O ring used to do?

    • @edwardsp1916
      @edwardsp1916 3 года назад +2

      The PTFE replaces the original seal. I decided to buy a new blanking plug for a couple of quid, this came with a new seal.

    What if the lockshield you can't turn off If it's faulty or stiff than would you have to drain system?

    Can I do this while the radiator is still full of water. With the heating of.

    • @ggss1176
      @ggss1176 2 года назад

      yes just shut off both valves at the base of the radiator to isolate the radiator. You can check if the valves are working ok by opening the bleed valve at the top of the radiator first if the radiator has one....expect a little water pressure first which will drop off after a short while. good luck 👍🏻

    A correct size copper washer is probably a better solution but they are not so easy to find especially if the fitting has the undercut.

  • @melvynrobinson7479
    @melvynrobinson7479 Год назад

    If the blanking plug is designed with an undercut to take an 'o ' ring then fit a new ring, just nip it up. Don't over tighten or this will split the ring. Plumbers never seem to carry proper spares, would imagine that this is a regular/common job

  • @esecallum

    or just put superglue and baking soda after warming the radiators slightly and this will be super strong

    I can’t believe someone wasted all this time videoing what is clearly a bodge job. Get a new washer or o-ring and do a proper job.

  • @CurvedSlightly
    @CurvedSlightly 2 года назад +1

    PTFE doesn't seal threads, this is a typical tradie trick when they don't know what they're doing and rely on gobs of PTFE and sealant to bodge the job. PTFE is a lubricant, it allows you to tighten tapered threads. I bet you tape olives and bib taps!?

    Donate to your toolbox? You make money from YT videos, won't pay much tax as you're Ltd. you'll scam customers, make a profit from fitting poor quality, cheapy parts but charge for quality parts, make them pay cash to dodge VAT. So, tell me again, why should we donate?
