UPDATE: AFX2DAW is now available for this audio interface! You can now use the onboard FX as VERY low latency plugins in your DAW :)
It's worth mentioning that it only works if you are connected via Thunderbold port as I found this the hard way. If you are connected via USB it won't work due to limitation of the bandwidth confirmed by Antelope support representative.
@@pastilance1 And you have to pay extra $200 just for the plugin
@@PedroMiguel-if3ll No, you don't. That's old news. Now you get the plugin bundled with your purchase.
This is a year later, and I'm curious if you've had any issues with crashing or FX DSP after seeing negative comments on RUclips and Reddit. Thanks
Damn...that seems like the interface I need....thanks for making it look irresistible!
I have a discrete 4 running on Mac Mini 2012, runs just great. And a Zen Go for my M1 mac Mini, runs extremely well.
beautiful piece of equipment
Man after watching this i am even more hyped. Managed to snag a second hand one for £350, should be here tomorrow.
You make it look so Easy!
Great job as always.
Thank you. Nah, it's hard!
@@CreativeSauce . I know.
Your videos are so smooth and rehearsed and I appreciate the work it takes.
It helps get a clear precise understanding of whatever the subject is into my cluttered brain.
For me, you have become the voice of CWbBL and my guru. I use your channel as my go to HELP manual ( along with my battered Garrigus)
I love tips on doing basic things that get overlooked but really help work flow.
I’ll keep watching. Cheers!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I also have a cluttered brain, so making the videos help me tidy it!
If I were running a commercial studio, I'd definitely consider one of these. But mine is just a home DAW, and I can't afford such niceties. So, after much research, I settled on the MOTU M4. It's perfect for my setup. The A-D converters are incredible, as are the preamps. Essentially zero latency. I've used 4 others prior to the MOTU and it outshines them all significantly.
If you had a commercial recording studio. You’d still be paying off the equipment purchases. Commercial Audio Tracking Recording studios are not doing very well at all in 2022 😄
What were the others that the MOTU M4 outshined?
@@Mike_Benz_ Some cheap Alesis model whose number i don't recall, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, a Behringer UMC404HD, and an old but still good M-Audio Delta 66 PCI card with accessory mixer. That old Delta card is still technically in use, or available, at least, should any problem arise.
Nice vid, I'm interested in the Orion studio synergy core with a few more ins and outs
I have a Presonus StudioLive 24R, which has 12 Aux output, beside 24 inputs. At this moment I am using as a Dolby Atmos in/out, while is connected through AVB network to MOTU 8Pre-es and Monitor 8. StudioLive rack mixer has some delay settings feature which comes handy to align the speakers. Reference comes in from Tonewinner AT-300, which use 12 inputs, the DAW is fed through AVB, therefore I use already 24 channels of the mixer of available 32. Each 12 AUX routed to speakers have their inidividual submix where I mix the two source of Dolby Atmos and a two stereo buses.
I did not just use a MOTU 16A for the digital patchbay, with 25R now I have an interface which is versatile also in Live setup and MOTU 16A doesn't have programmable delay per channels. In top of that, I really would like to make an interoperability improvement solution between the two brands using AVB (i meant writing software), specifically reducing the price for dolby atmos.
A nice bit of kit Mike definitely one for those with slightly deeper pockets £1600 is a chunk of cash. The routing options are really good on this latest model I can see many being very tempted to go for it a very attractive high end product. Thanks for the heads up a great demo as always :)
Definitely for those striving for that 'bit extra'.
there is Discrete 4 Pro version as well.. as smaller more affordable model
I know the Antelope stuff is great. This unit looks prettty impressive. I also use a Thunderbolt 3 audio interface without any problems on my PC as well. I looked at a few of the Antelope models when I puchased my new interface and ended up getting the Presonus Quantum 2626, which is great. The tradeoff is mostly no direct monitoring, but with such low latency it's a non issue. If I had the funds and found I needed something with these great monitoring features/onboard effects and all those other features, I would get one of these for sure. Good thunderbolt setup tips.
Thanks Kim.
Sooooo tempted
i am using this gear in my studio almost in 2 years. the only problem is, it has 8 analog outputs, that i can not send the 16 channels to my neve 8816 summing mixers. the antelope audio supporting team are just amazing. they are so quick and gentle.
hey bro any work arounds this i got a neve orbit summing mixer and i can only use 8 also is there i way i can use adat to audio converter than i can send to have all 16 out ?
@@shevyjohn9308 there is an expention card which is works with the neve summing mixer 8816 that gives you more connecting options. By this way you can use adat options too.
It looks great but i need traditional midi i/o. Thanks Mike. 👍
PC user using Apollo thunderbolt 3. I have to turn the Apollo on first before I turn on my PC, otherwise I get all sorts of pops and distortion. Never did get down to exactly why this happens, but if I turn the interface on first, all is well.
Hi!
I have the Discrete 8 Synergy Core
I recently purchased a Focusrite Octopre 8 Channel Pre-amp.
Can you teach me how to set these 2 equipments up? Thanks man!
Loving your videos!
Greetings from the Philippines!
Hi Mike - nice shirt! Thanks for the overview and I am tempted : ) I have always heard Antelope has issues with their drivers, so it's good to hear a positive review from an actual Antelope user. Having the direct DSP available in the DAW will be awesome - AFX2DAW. Will this be done for all of the Antelope devices or just the Pro series? Apogee has introduced something similar, but the variety of DSP effects from Antelope is much larger.
I am using Antelope Orion Synergy Core and the problem lies with the existing Thunderbolt driver for Windows..it's not fully supported Thunderbolt 4..I have asked them and the answer, I need to stick to USB connection until they can release the better Thunderbolt driver that will work perfectly on Thunderbolt 4. I am a Windows user by the way.
@@cashmerecat9269hi, just curious if they have updated it in the past yesr or not, as i am looking to buy one but the customer support experiences sound scary
I was disappointed when I found out the presonus studio 192 wasn't in production anymore but this looks better. I did like the integration with studio one though.
It's a toss up between this and the Orion Studio for me. What are your thoughts? Is the Orion worth it @ $1200 more? They use the same preamps right? Nice video. I have the ASP880 and the voice channel also! My setup literally mirrors yours. Thanks!
I’m happy with my Quantum.
hello there !! one Q here please..... Like many other home studio owners we already have other audio interfaces installed, I wonder if with this plugin we could still use the Antelope along side with any other ASIO audio interface? just wondering cause that would be just amazing
I've read really bad reviews about the tech support and the drivers of Antelope. Really want to get one since it's literally the 'perfect' audio interface. How does it work on M1 systems? And have you found any problems with it?
Hi Mike, after having the Discrete 8 pro for a few months now. Have you experienced any driver issues?
No problems with my Apollo thunderbolt 3 interface.
Antelope Audio's drivers seemed too unstable for windows. I remember their customer support a while back told me to download voice meter just to hear my computer audio. I ended up going with an RME interface instead.
No discernable latency, internal processing + really big bells and whistles - Oh My !!!! Who knows life is short - so just maybe - this would really be bigger than I need but ...... dang!! Thank You again for another great review. UPDATE: And then my A/C went out - cha-ching - back to reality
I really don't get why there are interfaces with thunderbolt.
It's only causes problems across the board.
The speeds and bandwidth aren't required at all, everything, including tablets, support USB-C and thunderbolt isn't really that accessible.
Glad that there is a company doing the extra effort and give both ports proper support. Unlike Universal Audio.
Mike just bought this. Im noticing that the control panel crashes often. Have you seen that at all?
lots of people r having issues with drivers is it true?
Hello again!
Hey Mike, I hope you are well! I recently got this exac0t unit and for some reason I'm having hard time figuring out how to connect a dbx compressor to it after the track has been recorded. Imagine a bass track that I now just want to squash a little bit with an external compressor. Any advice would be appreciated. 🍻🍻
Hi Boyko. Yes, I do that kind of thing all the time. I sent an individual track out from my DAW, through say output 3 to the compressor, then back to any input. It's a little hard to explain here, but I recommend getting to know all the outputs, and how to send to them from your DAW first.
@@CreativeSauce Thank you!
Wow
Very nice! Way out of my league though :-)
It have similar features to my Presonus Studio Live 16r. Your Audio Interface cost twice as much. I would still say that my mixer is till this day one of the best hardware in the world not only for recording but also live gigs and everything to do with any audio. No thunderbolt but it have no latency feature and can be hooked to audio over ethernet protocoles. I can walk away from my mixer and still control everything from my phone or tablet. I can give access to a band doing a big and let them control their own monitors on the stage from their phones or tablets. It is fully synced with Studio One and i can buy extra effects or subscribe for a month and get all effects and keep them at a fracture of a price. My mixer can record to SD card and dont need computer or software to do recording. It have so many features it feels very complicated in beginning but after few days of practice you will agree that this is the best mixer with audio interface on the planet. If you can live without auto gain and thunderbolt get StudioLive 16r and save allot of money. Your band is going to love you for choosing that mixer. It can be expanded with another StudioLive or stagebox if you ever need to go bigger, and if you do a gig your band will thank you for bringing it and hooking it up. It can be used for many things on the stage and dont have to be your main mixer. It can be your stage box, FX mixer, monitor Control mixer, recorder, playback device. Its extremely powerful. Cheers Mike. Audio interface you just showe is is great, but can be too expensive for some people, and this is not to bash on your audio interface but more to show people that there is someting that cost less and do the same and in some cases allot more.
Sounds awesome!
@@CreativeSauce sorry for mistakes, my phone dont like english but i fixed, and I hope you can now understand what I wrote.
I understood thanks :)
I have the 24r. It’s great as a basic interface. And live mixer.
I don’t like it as a primary interface.
Wait till antelope start screwing up with you with their update in the near future. You'll soon have an obsolete piece of expensive box in your studio. One thing to consider before buy an interface at this price point is long term support. Check around and see how happy antelope users are
This is really tough for me, because through all my research, I see SO MANY people vehemently arguing from both directions. I’ll read a review saying that customer support is god awful and their interface is obsolete after a year, then I’ll read another review saying theirs works and has worked perfectly fine or years and years and they love it. So I’m very conflicted.
Are you talking about Apple product? My old iPad is useless now because of the ongoing update.
@@BrandonKRivera do your own research and I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion. Antelope should stick to making converters.
@@cashmerecat9269 well, it's better to have one than two useless products
@@BrandonKRivera thats the difference . you never read any reviews saying rme is support is crap and their cards are obsolete. they are still supporting the same gear 15 years after it was released. where there is smoke there is fire
Mine was pretty cool. It broke and has been with Antelope for more than a month.
Not good for business.
I have one major complaint about the Antelope products. If you read the fine print of the contract you aren’t actually buying hardware. It is more a hardware a service business. If you ever put your interface behind a firewall you will notice it becomes quite useless. You are required to be connected with the service if you want to use it. Moreover if the company ever decides you they don’t’ like things you do they can cancel your account and you end up with a super expensive paper weight. So, if you don’t want this kind of leash you may want to try to do business with a company that is not making your a slave to an account. Say, RME? WDYT?
You only need internet to properly set up, you don't need internet to operate, my internet was out and I was still using my devices, you don't even need to sign in.
That just means when they decide that it's no longer cost effective for them to support the product they have the right to end support. They probably can end your license for their plugin, but you would still be able to use it as a basic audio interface.
Stay away from Antelope Audio, they drop driver support when they release new interfaces and support is a nightmare!
Everything but inserts. Shame it isn't anywhere close to the size of my wallet. Very nice hardware.
Still your favorite interface? I bought one and had to give it back after two days because drivers problems. Is such a problematic thing. And customer support is a nightmare. I wouldn’t recommend Antelope to any serious recordist. Waste of money and time.
too expensive :)
Hey! This is unfair that You guys have everything and being gifted with more and more brand new stuff over it, while ppl like me have a poor re-capped EMU 0404 USB for a good 10 years now and never have been gifted like this. Please send Your "old" Discrete 8 to me if You don't need it anymore :) :) (Thanks) (nice try)
The specs on all Antelope Audio devices are exxagerated
Example?
dont see the point of these to be honest . checkered quality and support reputation , stupid high price , no interest in the 2nd rate plug ins and above all pointless dsp in the age of apple m1/amd threadripper cpu devestation .
