One thing I love about Pat’s quilt alongs is you can see what others are doing and get tips and tricks from Pat too. It definitely feels like you are quilting with everyone. Some quilt alongs have a lot of hype up front, then maybe a few posts on instagram.
Way back I decided to do the entire Barn Star non stop, section by section. I wanted to be sure my fabrics were well distributed across the quilt. It took a lot of time, but the block and fabric variety kept it from getting monotonous. It's been done, quilted and on my bed for months.
I’ve seen that little ruler used on the Sewing with Nancy show on PBS Saturday mornings. She passed away but the still televise her show. She demonstrates all sorts of seam guides and notions.
So glad you showed how you've changed up your page. I love looking at it for tips and inspiration, plus I can see things I never saw before I started to quilt. As a fairly new quilter I really appreciate that. I also like that you share free patterns so I can practice on fabric I am not in love with but still gain experience while learning new blocks or techniques. Thank you for all you do for us quilters Pat.
Happy Candy Corn Day!!! Pat, your Barn Star quilt is going to be gorgeous!! Thank you for spending the time going over where to find things on your website. I will definitely use the tips and tutorials!! Thank you for all the time you spend helping us😊 Have a beautiful day!!
i've been working on barn star as well - I did notice a while back that there is an easy split on this on the blocks... your comment about this would be a quilt by itself - I'm awfully tempted to make 2 throws instead of one big one so I can quilt it myself on my domestic and get it done :D
I have not started the Barn Star yet. I really like the idea of sewing units. I think I will do that when I get started next year. I a gee that it will be more motivating on such a large quilt. Great idea.
Yes I had to finish my barn star too! I cannot just do one block a month. It is too long to leave the fabrics out and it is not easy for me to jump project to project. Of course, it still needs to be quilted.
Thank you Pat for showing us the new web browser page❤ It was so helpful to me I think it will be very user friendly I’m going to jump in on the quilted witch in mid November Thank you Pat for all you do
Yay! Love original candy corn. Have to go get some. Hard to find a small bag though. Wished they packaged them in “fun” size portions like the chocolate bars.
Tackle your Barn Star, you can do it, Pat! The Barn Star quilt is indeed a 'big girl,' and you can definitely feel it when you try to wrangle it around. I have mine folded and draped over a hanger waiting on borders. Love your updated website! The Tips & Tutorials tab makes sense to my brain, very helpful.
I am thrifty in some ways but I don’t take it too far. I usually sew all my HST discard triangles together for future projects. I try to cut thrift and I cut my scraps into certain sizes that I can use for other projects. 1-1/2” is my smallest size I keep. I save batting scraps to use for small projects like mug rugs, pot holders, small wall hangings, or table runners. Extra binding strips or cut offs from trimming quilts are cut up into my scrap buckets so I can use them up. Your drawing room fabrics are so pretty.
Hey, Pat! I agree--building the quilt in larger sections is definitely the way to go! It’s particularly helpful for those-like me-who quilt on a domestic machine. These larger sections can be quilted and joined in a ‘quilt as you go’ method in the final assembly of the quilt. I love the changes that you’ve made to your website. Everything is so much easier to find! Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
I understand exactly what you’re saying about being motivated. I’d started the Barn Star sew along with the author. Once a month for a year. I was gun ho the first 3 months and there it sits. I have felt overwhelmed to catch up plus not sure what I’m doing with it once it’s done. So I will stop where I’m at and put fabric back in my stash. I’ll use the finished blocks in other projects. Luckily I used mostly my stash for it and didn’t invest much money.
Thank you for another great video, Pat. Love to sit and watch you chat with us. I think it is a great idea to restructure your website as the content keeps growing. 👍🏻🙏🏻
Very interesting video today. Barn Star Quilt is beautiful & you'll be happier getting it wrapped up & off to the spa. Your colorful bundles are lovely, both of them. Think your reorganized "Love to Make Quilts" will be easier to navigate. Thanks for all the hard work you put into it. QUESTION...when you archive older items, do you put it on an external hard drive? 20+ years of data, info, stuff is amazing😳. How many computers have you worn out🤔🫣 I worked with computers from 7/1975 to 1994. Technology sure has changed! Pat Sloan, plan on joining you online again tomorrow 😊
You have beautiful quilts. I would love to find the quilt block you have behind you in this tutorial. It is very pretty. Also the block you are talking about is very nice. The fabric choices are gorgeous.❤❤
I am one of your die-hard purple people, I ❤ the saturation of color in your purple fabrics. Thx for designing such beautiful fabric. My thriftiness comes with my leftover fabrics, never do I consider anything 2 inches or more a scrap but a treasure for making something uniquely creative magical for a special person.
Hi, I like the way you redid your website. I think others will too. Your barn quilt is so pretty!! It is on my bucket list. No time to dive into it right now. Thanks for the tips on getting it put together. Always love seeing the bundle kits! This video was a great way to start this week, thank you.
I will only make a section of this. The stars are lovely…but the thing is way to big for me. Also loved way the book was set up. Candy corn wall hanging is so cute… make a new pattern for us …pretty please!Have a great day!
I started my Barn Star Sampler and became uninspired. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on maybe reorganizing and sewing it into sections. Look forward to your finished Barn Star quilt.
I'm sewing my barnstar quilt all together now. I, too, prefer sewing some together as I go because it gets overwhelming sewing it all together at the end and I'm more likely to put off sewing it together. I really want to make the Quilted Witch quilt and the witch is the best part, but I know I won't use the quilt. It's such a dilemma!!
The website update is great! Any chance you could add your Amazon link to the links you need to know? That would make it easier to use when not shopping from your links in the videos.
thank you! the collection (plus other fabric) is listed on the project page www.ilovetomakequilts.com/barn-star-sampler-quilt-along.html . here is the fabric .. shrsl.com/3rxmx
Good afternoon, Pat. Recently you shared the name of the jewelry company from which you purchase some of your things. I love, love, love the necklace you are wearing and love it each time you are wearing it. Please share the name of the website or company so I can look around.
Pan thanks so much for that I love the idea that we can click on to anything that we want to see especially on tips I will need that thanks a bunch ❣️🪡✂️🧵💗💖💖❤️
Hi Cheryl! download my project calendar and that shows them plus i usually have a few more. did you download the calendar yet? www.ilovetomakequilts.com/pat-sloan-calendar-challenges.html
That's the downside of sampler type quilts, they make me a little crazy because your mind just gets into the one block and there is no rhythm to power through the piecing.

I am thrifty by using muslin for my backing of my quilts.
Love your Candy Corn quilt 😊

I so agree with you on Barn star. It’s so big I’m not sure I can tackle it. I was thinking of just doing one side of it

I am loving the Barn Star Sampler, but I too am struggling keeping my rhythm going. I'm going to just finish it! I like the redo of the website.
I’m so happy for you, for your decision on the Barn Star quilt. Makes perfect sense. You go, girl!
Barn star looks great Pat. Yes I’m doing juts the one section I think.

Beautiful barn quilt.
Pat when you recorded it did not show where the find was. 😢
That's the downside of sampler type quilts, they make me a little crazy because your mind just gets into the one block and there is no rhythm to power through the piecing.
Just curious, how big is the barn star?
big!! i don't remember.. if you go to the book page it tells you shrsl.com/40c2k
