Black and tan all the way!!! And the quilts of Valor book, quilts and presentation is beyond special for not just our Veterans but all of us as well. Some of our Veterans are still feeling the effects of their homecoming from the Viet Nam war, remember a of them especially this Veterans Day.
That yellow is perfect for the fork on the watermelon block! For the Make a Wish quilt, blue and white are classic for a reason, but the black and tan is very elegant as well, so I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Drawing Room is lovely. My husband and I are both veterans and we visited the National Quilt Museum Quilts of Valor exhibit while traveling last month. It was fun to see one of your quilts in real life!
My husband and I have both received a quilt of valor, we are both proud USAF veterans. It was such an honor and we value them so much. Hence we got married on 11-11-11. So Veterans day is very special to us.
Thank you to all of our Veterans. Both of our sons are Army, our youngest is a Veteran and the eldest has 15 years of service, 10 to go until he retires.
I would love to see the Make A Wish quilt with a black background with some pops of gold as you suggested. I think it would be super elegant! But I also like the blue! Can't wait to see what you end up doing.
Blacks, browns, and tans wins my vote! Lovely fabrics! Yellow fork is perfect in lower right corner--amazing how it pulls the yellow through the quilt. So exciting that Dennis' aunt and Lileen's brother-in-law (sorry if I spelled her name wrong) will be receiving Quilts of Valor at the Paducah Quilt Museum. With the connection you've had with Dennis and Cindy over the years it's fantastic that your quilt will be going to Dennis' aunt. My Dad retired from the Army in 1976. He was also in the Korean War and had 3 tours in Vietnam. I wish I had been quilting before he passed and that I had known about Quilts of Valor so that I could have made him a special quilt. ❤ Have a great weekend, happy sewing!
I like the black, brown, and tan variation for the charity quilt. It also think it will be stunning. My son recently retired from the US Navy and I plan on making him a quilt of valor.
First , thanks for going over your thought process for choosing fabrics! Your new line is beautiful and so my style ! I usually lean blue but the blacks are just gorgeous ! I need more sewing hours in a day !
I vote for the Black combination for the "Make A Wish" quilt. THANK YOU Pat for going out of your usual style & sewing the "Chicken Salad" quilt. I have enjoyed seeing your changes & interpretations--Love the fabric you chose for the watermelon.
I’m partial to blue because I think it’s my favorite color HOWEVER, I’m over the moon for the blacks and tans. Love Love LOVE it. Yep, black has my vote! Drawing Room is such an elegant fabric line.
Dear Pat, Your QOV is Fabulous, I was able to see it and all the WOV quilts at AQS Quilt show Daytona Beach FL earlier this year!! The award of these QOV was sew special! 🇺🇸😇 Thank you for sharing
The browns, black & tans are luscious! I love the blues (my favorite color), for some reason I'm leaning away from the blue. Anything you do will be BEAUTIFUL!
Had only heard of Quilts Of Valor, and Pat is right - there are a lot of extra requirements. Love her recognition of Quilts Of Honor! I presented a quilt of honor to my favorite vet last year, and he was thoroughly surprised and delighted! Working on making some more Quilts Of Honor to give next year!
I used to be a Peasley, so I try to put a paisley in all of my quilts. I love your paisleys in every color. The black and tan give the most choices, but I would add the blue paisley cause it's so pretty!!
I concur with others about blacks and tans, plus you have more fabric. I like the lighter background, but it’s going to be wonderful whichever you do!!
Yes, it’s Veteran’s Day, a day early……my dad is a 96 year old WWII Navy Veteran. He was only 17 when he entered WWII after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was in a newly created specialized group call Armed Guard, taking him to serve in all four Theaters of WWII. He was presented a Quilt of Valor in 2019 by our local Quilt of Valor group. My youngest daughter, an Air Force veteran, is now a Major serving in the Air National Guard. Although she did not see combat or even deployment, she has participated in some amazing assignments which has involved both international and domestic destinations as a nurse practitioner in various medical related events. Our family is proud of our own Veterans and all of those who have served and are serving around the world. Thank you for your support of this great group of brave people!
I’m usually a blue girl but I would definitely use your blacks, browns and tans maybe pulling in a gold as you say that would be a lovely extra pop of colour. Your drawing room palette is really lovely
Love the idea of using the black from Drawing Room as the background. I don't think I'd use the dark brown but the taupes work well, especially since you have the large paisley print bringing them all together. Love the large print on black in the bottom of the stack closest to you, too. For your Oh My Stars, you do have spaces that you can use the orange charms where they don't touch your star points. I hope you use them.

The blue’s with the yellow and green…all those fabrics are beautiful. So many choices!
I think the blacks and tans would be an interesting lesson for me on how to select and place those. And as you said would look very elegant. 😍
I also think the blue/brown would be stunning with the black background and add a god/tan solid if needed.
Love to hear the leaves
I like the black and tan option and do think the deep gold would look great with it.
I love the black, but my favorite is the lightest tan. It would be beautiful using that as your back ground and use the black and brown fabrics.
Had only heard of Quilts Of Valor, and Pat is right - there are a lot of extra requirements. Love her recognition of Quilts Of Honor!
