I have fallen into your no such thing as weekends. I retired last year. Too accustomed to project schedules and i am a 'doer'. I have adopted your calendar approach to sewing and what a game changer from just a to-do list. I have even made headway on a 20 year old project simply because of your 'on this day every week I will do xxxx'. (I work on it every Sunday). So unless kids schedule something on weekend because of their work schedules, I now have sewing, cleaning, house admin, scheduled for everyday of the week. You have made retirement a dream come true!!!!
I watch you with my morning coffee, then I watch quilting videos on you tube while in the sewing room until 4:30 then I watch the Young and the Restless lol! No drinks in my sewing room as I spill it.
I quilt a lot in the evening. I have a TV on and watch shows that I don't have to pay alot of attention to... old TV series, YOuTube videos, etc. I keep my drink with a cap on it, so I don't spill it. I have my planner so I can see what project I need to work on. Our dog is laying on the rug next to me, and my cat is on a shelf nearby so she can supervise my work. Every so often, hubby will pop in to see how I'm doing. I love watching your videos.
My sewing space is in a bedroom that also shares space with the “office “ and my husbands big desk built by his father. I do have to shuffle some when I want to sew and my sewing desk sits in the corner where the two windows are, so the blinds get opened and I can see the backyard. This same bedroom is off the family room so I keep my drink on the coffee table just outside the door. I like to listen to RUclips videos, some music and sometimes nothing at all. Hope you have a productive weekend of sewing.
Definitely music. Sometimes a show if it’s easy piecing. I keep a drink on the table- just living on the edge like that. 😂 my husband made a cut out/drop down for my sewing machine in a vintage dining room table we got free on marketplace. It’s pretty big so all the extra “stuff” gets pushed to the back of the table to make a nest for cutting and sewing. I have my sewing machine set down in the table, a serger, and an embroidery machine on the table, a long arm behind me, and just enough room to shimmy around the back. I think I need a new house just to support the hobby. Ha ha ha!
You are not only always very informative, but I love your sense of humor. I don't listen to anything while I'm sewing. I like quite and I just concentrate on what I'm doing. I can't multi task, my brain can only handle one job at a time.
Multitasking doesn't work for me either! If I try to do more than one thing at a time, I make a mess of both! Lol If I try listening to something while sewing, my mind starts to wander, as do my seams! I believe that multitasking is one of those "modern myths" that needs debunking! You can't have it all and do all things well, IMHO!
While I’m sewing, I watch quilting videos on you tube! I also listen to books on tape and podcasts . Sometimes I just enjoy the quiet and don’t listen to anything!
Hi Pat, I clear my entire sewing service off from in front of my machine and to the left of it when I bind my quilts. I listen to old time radio shows or music with my earbuds. Thank you for all that you share with us! ❤😊
I don’t usually shuffle much, if anything it’s moving another project to work on another. I typically turn on my tv in sewing room and listen to true crime shows. At the moment I gave several different things to do. Customer quilts, another bookcase to put together and put fabric up in, and sewalongs and ufos and there is always binding to do.
I'm a November birthday too, Pat, and today's my birthday.😊 After I retired several years ago from my M-F, 8-4 job I changed to your philosophy that every day is a sewing day. When asked about my day I usually reply "every day's a Saturday." Hardly a day goes by that I'm not in my sewing area (unfinished basement). My parents gifted me money for a mid-arm quilting machine and frame before they passed away. Around the time you were recovering from fracturing both of your wrists, I fractured my left ankle and had to get plates put on both sides of my leg/ankle. So I added the computerization feature for edge-to-edge quilting to keep from standing for long periods of time. (I hadn't watched much RUclips before then, but I found your channel when I was recovering.) Whew, all of that to say that I love spending time sewing...cleaning and cooking not so much.🤣 While sewing I usually watch YT quilting videos, movies, listen to music, and/or most recently found Keith Morrison's Dateline podcast. However, first thing in my mornings I get my coffee, breakfast, vitamins, and head to the computer to watch your almost daily video. Thank you for starting my day off with a smile and desire to go play with my fabric.♥
Wow Pat don’t know how you do it all and not go crazy. You are amazing. I love watching your programs. I never miss one. I make a lot of your sew alongs to. I could never do all of what you do. Thank you for all you do for everyone.
When I sew I listen to audio books. I love to read but haven't figured out how to sew and read books at the same time. So I feel like I am multi-tasking!
When I am sewing, I watch movies or football games. If I am binding, I watch the same stuff, but clean off more space so my quilt isn’t knocking everything over.
I like to listen to the local FM radio station while I sew. It broadcasts music, news, local event information, as well as emergency information. Call me old fashioned but it keeps up to date with my community. Oh, and its free!
I just watched your Friday morning video. I’ve gotten in the habit lately of watching them in the mornings before I do anything you ask about our sewing routine mine is pretty lazy like my kitchen and my sewing room, or side-by-side we kind of live in the big kitchen so I go from my recliner in the kitchen to my sewing room so I saw a little recline a little so a little recline a little and stop whenever my husband needs something, so maybe I don’t have the best routine but it is what it is
First, I DO cook with an apron..I'm messy! Second, when I'm set to sit and sew, the classical music station is my company. I find it keeps me calm ND focused.😊
While sewing I usually do not listen to anything, but the sound of machine. The sound of the sewing machine is very soothing to me. On my morning dog walks, I listen to podcasts about quilting, right my favorite is Grateful Threads. With my morning coffee, I watch Pat and other RUclips quilting channels.
When I am sewing in my area I have to have music playing, have always loved listening to music, it helps set my mood to work. I am retired and can sew, and do, anytime I wish which is almost every day. When family is home I do not sew much. Hope you have a good week, love to see how you work and your thoughts on doing it all.
During the baseball season, I sew during the ball game. ❤ In the off season, I catch up on quiting shows on RUclips. Year round, I listen to audiobooks. No drinks near the sewing machine. I make myself walk to the kitchen to take breaks. Love the coffee apron!!!
I listen to books on Libby thru my local library. That way if my mind wanders I can rewind. Thank you Pat for showing us your work ( you make me tired with all you do!!) I am trying to get as organized as you so things will be easier!
Good Morning Miss Pat! I wear aprons for cooking and eating. I found myself staining way too many of clothes without an apron. While sewing I listen to and sing along with my favorite Christian radio station or listen to Crime Junkie podcasts. I have a bit of ADHD and these two things occupy that squirrel chasing part of my brain so i can focus on my quilting.
Coffee to my right, iPad to my left during sewing small block listening to health relaying pod cast. Spotify for favourite selected music, especially when I’m concentrating on machine quilting my quilt, because it makes me more relaxed. Thanks Pat for sharing, I too do my running around through the weee when it’s quieter. 👍❤️😊
I like to watch a tv show when I am piecing a quilt. I watch the British shows because they have lots of dialogue, so I can just listen to the story & only occasionally look up to watch when there is a bit of an action scene. When I am quilting I often listen to music or a podcast.
I like to listen to 80s music, my CD player, soft rock music or HGTV and my iced tea is nearby where it won't get spilled and I can be like this for hours and I love it. Thanks Pat!
I have to have music going in my studio, first thing I turn on. I have a warmer I put scenty melts in that smells wonderful. And I have a drink that I have to chase down cause I'm moving all over my studio. I actually bring out a small cooler with drinks so I don't have to go back in the house. My studio is in a separate building just outside of the house. I love it!
Pat. Sometimes I have a candle burning if I am going to spend some time piecing. Instrumental music is best for me so I do not become distracted. I set a timer so I keep on task and hydrate myself. I love creating so much. You my friend do amazing work. God bless you and Greg for all the things you do!
Don't have a regular routine when in my sewing room. I live alone with my canine companion so will at times turn the stereo on and let my CDs play. If binding, after sewing to the front I will sit to watch TV while I pull around and hand sew to the quilt back. One of these days I will try totally sewing binding on with my machine (small projects to begin with). Thanks, again, Pat for all you share with us 😊.
I love to watch other quilts websites and listen to music or stories on line. But I make sure I am organized and all is cleaned before I start and have a cup of coffee. My design boards have everything cut and labeled with alpha bittes.
I am always listening to a book while sewing. I sometimes have to pause it if I need to do "quilt math" or concentrate on block placement 🧐 Thank you for sharing your thought process on all things quilting.
Hi Pat, I live in a moderately-low-income Independent Senior Living two-bedroom apartment and while it is roomy, it’s not large enough to get all of my sewing things in one bedroom. My sewing machine is in my bedroom because I love to sew in front of the windows - daylight is the best. My bed must be made when I sew though because it makes me feel calm when it is in order and I’m more productive. The valances on the windows that I made and my bluebird quilt make me happy. My cutting table is in the living room and my actual sewing room is my second bedroom which has fabric, thread, scraps, strips, squares, selvages, etc which I am still sorting out since I moved here two years ago. Almost done though. I don’t listen to or watch anything while I sew so I can focus. Tonight I finished quilting my table runner in echo quilting that is made from three of the Autumn blocks. I did it in Quilt-as-you-go. I will post the front and back on your page on Facebook. Enjoy your weekend no matter what you do. Love your videos!!!
Hi Pat! I love your videos and I watch you every morning a little later as I drink my coffee (7:15 is a bit too early for me!). You certainly brighten the start to my day! Audio books on Libby or quilting videos are my go-to’s as I sew.
I love listening to radio channels mainly here in uk the one called Boom! 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s music also we have Cliff Richard Radio Station. Just gotta live a bit of Sir Cliff. I also organise my table to do binding. Clearing away all the odd stuff, I’d just finished using and tidy up!
I do have a small monitor/tv in my sewing room, but it needs to get moved so it’s easier for me to watch while I sew. It’s a matter of tilting my head up to watch vs stopping, turning around and watching. I watch NASCAR races, football games and Dateline; I don’t need to watch it constantly to get the gist of what’s going on.
I definitely listen to music most of the time, i can't watch TV, and sew at the same time, my seams would be so wonky, lol. I definitely have a drink off to the far right side of my sewing desk so i don't spill on my sewing machine or the fabric. I think no matter how you set up your space, you always are gonna have to make adjustments for doing different tasks such as sewing binding on quilts because they are just so big, midt ppl don't have a lot of space and its quite the process and we want it to be beautiful so we maneuver everything around to accommodate the process. Few that was a long explanation haha.
I, too, have a very small space, since moving to senior living apartment. One thing is you have to be organized so that room is not messy all the time! When I'm working on a project, I watch movies I'm familiar with, so I can just listen while sewing. Love ALL your ramblings..I can relate!!
I listen to audio books during most of my sewing. But if it is a thinking project like cutting, then I listen to music. I like TV, but "watching" slows down my sewing progress. Haha. When I do machine quilting on my domestic machine I have to clear off the entire sewing table. Otherwise, the quilt pushes things to the floor. It's easier to move it from the beginning, than to pick it up.😂
Hi Pat, I am an apron girl. I love them! When I’m sewing, I usually listen to music or true crime podcasts and I have my favorite drink (Coke Zero Sugar) close by. I love watching your videos and look forward to them every day - on the weekend, I’ll usually find an older one to watch because I can’t go too long without my Pat Sloan fix 😂
I like watching you & a few other RUclips sites on my tablet. The larger screen is much easier to see with my aging eyes (just turned 72). Your work flow & sewing room set up are interesting. I want my sewing room set up again!😢 Cutting anything out is my biggest problem. Lovely visit to the Sloan Zone today! Have a fantastic weekend & I'll see you again online come Monday😊
I try to watch/listen to videos when sewing but then get sucked into U-tube to find another video to watch and end up watching it! I sometimes listen to music too. Thanks for all the items you show us and how you do things too. You do so much and have so much to keep up with! I find this time of year I will do a few "Sew In" days with my quilt guilds. It is a pain to drag stuff around but do get more done that way. Several shops nearby have a sew in time too. My problem currently is that I need to sort thru 2 piles of leftovers, mostly bindings. Our guild makes placemats for meals on wheels type group and need to use those pieces for that.
My gosh I used to be so into aprons. I organized a FB apron exchange some years back. That was a lot of fun. (work but fun too). So, you asked us how we prep and set up for sewing. My cabinet is always open and ready to walk in, sit down and sew. I love listening to music or simply turn my t.v. on to you tube. Depends on the project, time notched out. If its just 30 minutes I will just sew no other distractions. ha ha Except hubby and the pooch.
I am an apron person!! I teach middle schoolers how to cook and I have a few that I rotate through. When I’m quilting or cross-stitching I usually listen to audio books. Hoopla is a free library resource for audio books… so it costs me nothing and then I have more money for more fabric!! 😊
Pat, sometimes I listen to calming music while quilting. I also have a tight workspace, someday I hope to get a bigger sewing table! Have a great weekend!❤
Love the aprons. My grandmother always wore one when she cooked because she always was nicely dressed. I had made myself one but never used it. Gave it to a friend who fell in love with it. When I sew I tend to need concentration so if anything, I listen to music with no words. Yanni is a favorite of mine. Love all the personal tidbits you share. 💖
Gosh Pat I guess we can no longer tell you to "have a good weekend" LOL. I am an apron person--craft & sewing & cooking & cleaning. It seems to put me in "work mode" when I "suit up." I can't watch movies or videos & concentrate while I sew, but I do listen to podcasts, books, & news.
Hi pat I am not very organized my sewing space is very tight I have yet to find a good flow to my room, but when I am quilting I will listen to music on my echo dot.
My drink sits on my Featherweight bed if I’m working on my Janome. I rarely listen to anything, I just sew, but sometimes I feel like listening to music on my tablet. Enjoyed seeing your set up. Thank you for what you do, I can see it’s a lot of work you do to teach us quilting etc. much appreciated ❤
Love listening & watching!! Your skills have stepped my projects up in ways that improve their appearance. Today, I was finishing a small project & when the seam in the binding hit right at the corner, I knew what to do. Cut it off & move the seam back from the corner! You showed us that. Thank you!! ❤❤
The apron I use most is a harvest apron I made about four years ago. I like to run classic movies in the background while in my sewing room, or sometimes an audio book.
I moved my sewing studio to a different space in my house but in my old space I had a TV and would usually listen to and half watch HGTV. My new space doesn’t have a connection for my tv cable so now I either just have quiet or I’ve started listening to podcasts on my phone, mostly heath and wellness stuff by a British doctor, Dr Chatterjee, who has wonderful guests for the podcasts. I always have a thermal mug of tea set to the side where my fabric never is and my dog usually keeps me company.
I enjoy your videos so much. I have just retired and am going to start using your calendar as a way to stay organized since I have so much time. I listen to old movies on you tube for background noise. Enjoy your day😁
I used to enjoy listening to your APQ Podcast while I was sewing. I miss listening to you interview people! Right now, I mostly listen to music (and keep my beverage far from my fabric!)
Hi Pat, I often listen/watch you in my sewing room. Or sometimes another quilter if I’m all caught up on your daily videos. I also listen to audio books. As i like to read but often don’t have enough time to get through a good book at bedtime (or too tired). I’m looking on Amazon to get myself a tablet holder thats on a arm that hooks onto the side of my sewing station. It’s adjustable so i can move it around where i need it. I love your sewing table. You are so fortunate. I just have my machine on a desk, that is too high for my machine.
We have an awesome library. One of the things I'm able to do is download an audio book. So, I listen to a book while sewing. I feel like I'm doing two things at once. Thank you I enjoy all your RUclips videos!
I totally understand where you're coming from Pat. Most people don't understand that lifestyle. I did it for 12 years (I manufactured hand dyed fabrics, threads and ribbons for quilt shops) and was totally wiped out at the end. Working from dawn to dark each day is hard. I can't tell you just how proud I am of you and your shipping department. I enjoyed those 12 years...I should have started when I was younger, and wouldn't change a minute of them. Good Luck in your future. See you online.😊
Hi Pat, i usually have the radio on, listening to the oldies. And i am in socks, i have tried to sew with shoes on but cant do it lol. Hope you and Mr Gregg have a great weekend. Thanks for sharing
I always have something to drink (non-alcoholic). I have a few podcasts that I will listen to. Or I like to listen to books. I need to start just listening to music. When I listen to books or podcasts I find myself stopping the audio and looking things up. Then I am distracted from my main purpose for being there!. :)
Hey, Pat! I usually set up a playlist of quilting videos and sew along. If I find myself stopping a lot to watch the videos, I’ll listen to a podcast. My favourites are comedy podcasts from CBC Radio Canada, especially The Debaters and Because News. This was the first time that I heard you mention your Sashiko. I got fabulous deal -less than 25% of the retail price-on a mint condition Shashiko 2 from Kijiji (like your Craig’s List). I don’t think that the previous owner had opened the storage tray! It was a 10 hour return drive to Ottawa, but a friend came along and we just made a road trip if it! I’m going back to watch your Sashiko playlist. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
I’ve never been an apron user, but my husband has recently reminded me that many of my tops have grease spots or other food spots that happen when cooking at the stove. So now I use one.
While I am able to strew the sewing all over the house my actual working space is smallish. My computer desk is set up across from the machine I watch different videos - monitor is a small tv so I switch back and forth. One room is set up with newer machine another room is primarily for cutting and I sew on my Singer 201 in there. Depends on the mood I am in where I plant my butt for the day.
While in my studio I have a drink in a safe space. I will either listen to music, have a familiar movie or tv show on so I don’t have to watch it just listen or have RUclips videos playing. A candle is sometimes burning too. It’s a happy place to be!❤️ Try not to work too hard Pat! Enjoy!🎉
I usually wear aprons when cooking. I wear an apron when quilting on the long arm, I found it protects the fabric of my shirt and gives me a place for scissors, etc. I enjoy burning a candle and listening to an audiobook or music when in my sewing room. Thanks for the peak into how you make your business work!

I listen to audiobooks while I sew. Reading and quilting are my most favourite things to do, so this way I can do both simultaneously 😊

I love listening to music while I quilt. The louder the better. 😊 Also keep my tea close by.
Our local church is having a Quilt Show this weekend. I have 4 quilts on display. Summer Moon is one-Yeah! Thanks Pat for the sew along :)

Me too.
When I’m doing lots of baking, or washing dishes. I should wear one when I eat, because I’m always spilling things down me, lol!
I always have a drink and I like audiobooks or quilting you tube videos.
Hi Pat! I love your videos and I watch you every morning a little later as I drink my coffee (7:15 is a bit too early for me!). You certainly brighten the start to my day! Audio books on Libby or quilting videos are my go-to’s as I sew.
thank you!!
I usually listen to podcasts while working in my sewing room. I usually set my coffee on the book shelf so as not to accidentally knock it over.
I love my 60's music and usually have Alexa play that for me while I sew with my travel cup near. I love your videos❤
I often like to have Jazz music playing softly in the background when I sew.
I listen to books on audible. Usually the next book for the book club I'm in.
Thanks for showing behind the scenes. I usually listen to audio books while I’m sewing. I love mysteries.
There are some great quilting Podcasts you can listen to.
I, too, have a very small space, since moving to senior living apartment. One thing is you have to be organized so that room is not messy all the time! When I'm working on a project, I watch movies I'm familiar with, so I can just listen while sewing. Love ALL your ramblings..I can relate!!
I like this kind of video too. Glad you were rushed and needed a quicker production piece.
It's easier to move it from the beginning, than to pick it up.😂
I download books from my library and listen while I sew, cook and do housework.
I like to listen to shows that I haven’t seen in a while but that I know very well so I don’t have to look at them. Other times I listen to music.
I usually listen to some good ol’ country music while sewing.
I use one as a coverall when sewing to keep threads off my clothes
Gosh Pat I guess we can no longer tell you to "have a good weekend" LOL. I am an apron person--craft & sewing & cooking & cleaning. It seems to put me in "work mode" when I "suit up." I can't watch movies or videos & concentrate while I sew, but I do listen to podcasts, books, & news.
Hi pat I am not very organized my sewing space is very tight I have yet to find a good flow to my room, but when I am quilting I will listen to music on my echo dot.
I listen to Gospel music while crafting and gardening.
I have no tv and no music, Ever since I was a kid doing homework I'd like to work in quiet.
Love listening & watching!! Your skills have stepped my projects up in ways that improve their appearance. Today, I was finishing a small project & when the seam in the binding hit right at the corner, I knew what to do. Cut it off & move the seam back from the corner! You showed us that. Thank you!! ❤❤
I listen to music and have a drink and snack near by when I sew.
Right now, I mostly listen to music (and keep my beverage far from my fabric!)
that was a fun job. A lot of work but fun. The magazine cancelled the show
Busy busy, life is busy. I do my running on week days too. Weekend time is for family time.
I like to listen to shows like dateline. Or, organizing tips, and quilt podcasts. I'm just starting to do audio books.
I like to listen to music on Alexa. Yes, I usually have a drink close by. Relaxing.
I just have my machine on a desk, that is too high for my machine.
thank you!
You sound like a farmer who works everyday:) That's our life!
I was thinking the same thing, my Uncle always said we had to come and visit him because his cows needed milking twice a day.
it is a lifestyle
See you online.😊
it is very satisfying .. hugs!!
I use an apron everyday esp when I sew helps keep threads off my clothes
Thanks for the reminder.
Hi Pat I usually just clear my sewing machine cabinet. I either listen to a radio or a audio book.
Enjoy!🎉
I love wearing my Aprons. I’m wearing the one covered with sheep right now!
My weekends are like yours… unless my grandson has a ballgame!
I usually listen to real crime podcasts or Martha Stewart cooking!❤
