Setting a Rigging Line Out of Reach, this is 1 way

  • This is 1 way of setting a rigging line when the piece is just out of reach. You can tie a throwing knot, throw it through the branch union and feed it all the way to the ground. Then you feed a bight of line on the other side of the union. Someone on the ground can then tie a running knot and run it up to the piece and then take all of the slack out. Hope this makes sense guys.

Man, that looks like a very enjoyable tree to climb.

Cool, I like it for branches with lots of congestion between you and where you want to tie off the rigging rope. You could also just have the ground guy send it back up to you on your climbing line, like he did the first time, if there's none of that congestion, then you're not relying on someone else's knot that you caný inspect before you drop the limb.

As a older climber I love doing that saves scotching out there by a mile, and some uncomfortable minutes.

That’s a phenomenal method I’ve never seen before

I use a similar method where I capture the end with the bullet or noose with 1 leg of the belly, wrap it down to the knot, and pull it back to me. The friction of the wraps make this possible. It is great if you don't trust someone's knot. Sometime, I will shoot some video and put it on the gram. Thanks for the information, much appreciated. 🙌

I still have one of your stickers you sent me from Masterblaster Treehouse I believe. It’s still on the back of my Petzl. I think you had just come out with the logo. You continue to educate brother! Thank you for all you do!

Haha just did this on a job, but slightly different. Your method needs 4 times the rope; I toss the working end over the rigged piece, sent it to ground and had the groundie tie it back to my lifeline. Then I tied the running bowline choker in the tree myself. Need less rigging rope to do it that way.

Working as a groundie on a low spready tree I will use a throwline to then send up a running bowline like you asked your groundie to do. I like this half n half technique you show 👍.
