    Test on Monday!! My instructor was telling me about the extra 5 mins. He said the tachos catch a lot of new drivers out because they think if they clock out at exactly 0:00 (for example) they can start work again at exactly 9:00, with a reduced rest there. But no! Because you clock out at exactly 0:00 the tacho is then counting that first minute as drive time, so it's seeing it as you clocking out at 0:01. So you clocking in at exactly 9:00 means you've started driving before your mandatory minimum nine hours rest, 8:59, and the DVSA will punish you for it. So most employers add the five minutes to cover their driver's asses. He told me to do 20 minutes at the start as that would then include the vehicle checks so if you do get pulled by DVSA it doesn't look like you've just got in the truck and gone without a check. Old boy knows his stuff!
    Do you still get your full pay if they send you home early, mate?

      Regarding getting paid if we get sent home early, in this particular job, we’re on a fixed salary, so it doesn’t matter how many hours we do, we get the same every week.
      Best of luck mate🤞 looking forward to hearing how you get on.

      @@BrotherTruckerUK Practical on Monday. Feeling confident! 😎😎Sounds amazing getting those early darts and still getting paid. I bet that doesn't happen often tho. I've always been on PAYE so once you clock off, that's it, pay stops. We get a lot coming in on UC refusing to work over 16 hours because they're better off NOT working. Absolutely bonkers!

      Hahahaha, i had one of those newly wrapped camo trailers, had to take it and its load of fresh air to copthorne, then up to Dunstable, then back to Rochester. In other words, trailer got cancelled and i had to bobtail it around just to check into the centres on the app. 😂 Another one was taking an empty trailer from Dartford and dropping it off in Swindon, then bobtail back to Dartford.
      Amazon have got all these electric vans doing the rounds, attempting to be "Green". But they seem quite happy sending dirty diesels around the country, wasting fuel and polluting the air on pointless excursions. 😕

    Recently passed under a month ago, done a bit of agency work, been thrown in at the deep end and came out of it just fine. I managed to get an assessment to a local carrier firm working with Amazon. Got offered the job, which i obviously accepted, starting on 37k a year. Spoke to another driver while i was there who was leaving (he's recently got his ADR and moving onto more money) He also said the work is a piece of piss. Got the relay app installed, had my DBS and got my drug/alcohol test 2moro, so hopefully, should be starting very soon. Cant wait.

      Firstly, congratulations on passing your c+e!
      It can be frustrating trying to get work with no experience but there are some places that encourage new passers to join them, you just have to keep looking til you find something that works for you.
      If I was you, google Amazon Freight Partners (AFP) in your area and look for available Hgv driving positions. Basically, AFP’s are smaller businesses that employ drivers for the purpose of supplying Amazon with consistent drivers. Hope that makes sense.

    Quick question - after you parked the trailer at Bolton, why did you have to leave the site to wait? I occasionally drive a 3.5t van for long distance jobs and was asked to do the same so I’m wondering why they just don’t let you wait on site.

    • @BrotherTruckerUK
      @BrotherTruckerUK  7 месяцев назад +2

      Great question mate, thanks for asking. I left the Bolton site so that I could wait in the truck. If I’d stayed on site, they don’t let you wait in the truck, you have to wait in the “drivers lounge” which is usually full of other drivers, nowhere to sit. I prefer to have some peace and quiet in the truck instead.

I don’t believe any companies in this industry offer work visa employment packages. They will only employ you if you are a legal citizen or have a work visa.
      So, step 1: apply for residency/work visa in the UK.
