In this episode:
You get to see my entire day from the moment I wake up to the minute I go to sleep. Edited concisely for your viewing pleasure! I planned originally to have the video last no longer than 20 minutes.
This was my challenge!
Being a dad is the best job in the world, followed closely by driving around the country in a HGV!
Heart warming family moments and skilled trucking manoeuvres with regular comedic timing makes this a really special episode close to my heart.

P.S best advice for your test, just take it slow. It sounds obvious, but seriously, the slower you go the more time you’ve got to adjust and react. Especially when reversing. Nice slow movement, with good steering, you can position the trailer anywhere you like. People go wrong by going too fast and not giving themselves enough room to correct the steering.
Also, Make the examiner feel safe. If you’re fast and aggressive obviously they’ll fail you. if you’re slow and in control you will pass.
Use all the space available, every inch helps.
Take all the time you need to do your manoeuvres. There is no pressure to get it done quickly.

Every tour ive done recently, up the M1, Milton Keynes twice, Dunstable and off up to good old Coventry tonight. Been keeping a look at for you, but im on late ones at the mo, 9pm starts been switched to midnight now. Had exactly the same at Keynes, wait around for a few hours and then cancelled, done a lot of waiting around this week, more tha usual, 5 hours at Dunstable. Not so much loads getting cancelled, most of the time its always empty trailers at the start of a shift, seems depots dont like dishing them out and would rather send you bobtail, Dartford are the worst for that, tight arses. If they dont get cancelled while im there, most of the time its via the app, the app updates and a trip vanishes or changes.
Im gonna go with an 11.15 mins shift. 🙈
It’s absolute madness isn’t mate! Seems to happen more and more where the job just disappears from the relay app. Glad I’m not the only one tho! 👍

Sometimes you see a job on the tour that you're not too keen on and hope that it gets cancelled, but it never does. I was supposed to have the week off, annual leave, someone had given their 2 weeks noticed in, but didnt fulfil it and walked out early, and i was asked to come in and cover. So holiday pay, and getting paid a weeks wages on top, (for 3 tours this week) obviously i couldnt say no to that.
Let’s get it!!
My son only 21 first hgv job AMAZON, Based Northfleet kent, only there 3months, first month mega busy, 2/3 rd month was happening everyday here there and everywhere, empty dead mileage, then Amazon changed all there contracts, 6pm starts or trunking to wales, so left now class 1 at BOOKERS, starts between 5am to 9am Home between 1pm to 5pm everyday and about £10,000 more money, I’ve retired from. 40 yrs of it, good luck to you all…
Thanks for your comment mate! Same thing has happened with us up north. Changed their contracts and now we’re all stuck on late shifts, too many hours, nowhere near enough pay. Glad to hear your son found a better job. I’ve heard BOOKERS is a great company to work for too 👍
I’ve handed my notice in with Amazon so will be moving on to something better in the next 2 weeks.

Hiya mate, sorry for the delayed response. I’m not sure to be honest, your best bet would be to google Amazon freight partners near you. Amazon use “freight partners” which is basically a 3rd party company that supply drivers to Amazon on a permanent basis. Hope that makes sense. Good luck mate! 👍

Hey brother, just finished my HGV training and now looking for the nail biting first job. so I have a question, if your load gets cancelled do you still get paid... how does it work?
@@spike4790 Hiya mate, congratulations on getting your HGV licence! It depends on the company you work for, but usually, a driver will still get paid regardless if the job is cancelled. But always double check with your employer first. Some companies pay a fixed salary, and others pay per hour. Hope this answers your question mate, and feel free to ask again if you need any more info. Good luck on your journey brother!

How do you find working for Amazon? Do you know if they take on New passes? I’ve passed all my Theory stuff, Just trying to save up now for my lessons then I’m keen to get a job ASAP looks like a good place to start for Expereince? Riiightss 👍🏼

Hello mate, I’m sorry but I’m not sure what TAP is. But when I applied for this driving role, yes I had a face to face interview with my boss and then a driving assessment for Amazon. I then had to pass a DBS and drug and alcohol test. After that I was in work within a couple of days. Hope this helps mate! Best of luck!

TAP i different. We AFP cant apply because we dont had blue badge for 12 weeks aka we are not employed by amazon. You as a TAP driver will do shunting and local trailer swaps where we only do trailer swaps. We are employed not by amazon but by our own bosses. Tap is nice, hr rate is nice and hope you get it because everything about this program sounds great.
