Thank you. This is such a good video. I’ve been trying to get rust out of our shower forever. So helpful. Also, with you mixing and using so many different cleaners I hope it was well ventilated and you are being safe. My dad was cleaning with bleach once and wasn’t wearing a mask or ventilating and got bleach poisoning! He was sick for over a week and had to go to the hospital. Stay safe. Thank you for the toilet bowl cleaner idea, I haven’t tried it and I have that exact one. Super excited to get rid of this mess. 💕
You're very welcome. Yes, It was ventilated and I wore a mask. You are correct, you have to be safe when dealing with these cleaners. Thank you SOOO much for watching.
Glad I found this video! We live in the country and have a well. Even with the water softener and special filters and salt rust will form in the fiberglass shower. Tried this today and shower looks like new, so couldn't be happier. Very little odor and scrubbing needed. Thank you.
You're very welcome. I am glad my video helped you. Thanks for watching.
This was great! No BS, you just tested everything.
Thank you and thank you so much for watching.
I'm so glad I found The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner. I call that stuff "The Big Gun" lol. I'll drizzle some on the stains, let it sit for 7-8 minutes, go back and scrub it off and it comes off effortlessly.
The Lysol toilet bowl cleaner with the black label for Lime and Rust works. I thought it was my hair dye staining my tub. Nope it was years of minerals and rust. I'm happy it's gone!
I scrubbed with a dish brush, cause that stuff will cause chemical burns on the skin. Something attached to a long handle. There's also one called Sno Bowl that works well for the mineral buildup.
just found your channel due to my tub being nasty and let me tell you. The information you gave about the works it helped. Went to home depot and they have a bunch of them for like 2.86. I thank you brother. There should be no excuse for my tub to get dirty again.
I am glad my video helped you. I just left home depot buying more (to keep my stock up). I use it on everything that has rust or rust stains. The stuff is amazing. Thank you SO much for watching.
HOLY MOLY!! 🙌🏻 The video I’ve been waiting for. Thank you!
So glad u found the secret! It really works!
Theres no need to put so much! This works! I agree its a great product and the only thing I can use that will actually clean my tubs and toilets. But please dont waste it. One quick circle under the rim of the toilet will clean the worst of stains! A quick scrub, literally a swish and a swash, let it sit for a few minutes and it will rinse like new.
Wow..I tried this on a customer’s shower. It worked fantastic. Beyond words. I put it in a spray bottle to control waste and made it easy to apply. Thanks dude!
You're very welcome. Great idea for the spray bottle. Thank YOU for watching.
Love the comparison videos. I have found that bleach based cleaners eat away at the sprayers in most cases. I had a big rust stain on my acrylic shower and I used full strength clr in a spray and it came out after spraying and letting it sit for ten minutes or so. It was not an all over stain, but heavily concentrated to one area. I scrubbed it with a brush.
Many years ago we used Dow oven cleaner on tubs and showers to clean them. Wear gloves, well ventilated and do NOT leave on more than 5 mins and rinse off very well. Rarely any scrubbing to do just wipe down.
Just went and picked some up from Walmart.
Honestly this product is the truth.
Really, no lie. I went to buy 4 more bottles at a family dollar.
Spouse thinks I scrubbed the shower the whole day.
Secret cleaning weapon for sure.
Lol. You are absolutely right. The Works is an amazing product.
I used this for years. It does work. It is strong to breathe and would advise ventilation while doing this.
Toilet bowl cleaning and Zep brand oven cleaner are my favorite cleaners where I use them to clean items they are not marketed to clean. Make sure to never mix types as they make a bleach and an ammonia cleaner. I use Zep brand oven cleaner because it wont gas you out and works so well. I use in the kitchen on grease and blood as it breaks down the proteins. I cleaned my friends travel trailer with toilet bowl cleaner in the bathroom where anything plastic turned orange from the rusty water. She was shocked and it took very little effort, smells good too!
Buy the iron out spray we live in Florida with high iron content in our well and it works wonders no scrubbing just spray on and rinse when done
omg - game changer! thank you!!
You helped a lot of people with this. Thanks for all you do.
You're very welcome Chris. Thank YOU for watching.
Thank you! It didn't clean the grout on the walls, but my tub looks like I spent an hour scrubbing it!!! The works even took off the orange staining from the shower curtain liner.
Awesome! Thank you so much for watching.
Thank you so much. I've been trying everything and my back has been fused, so I'm hurting by the time I stop scrubbing. This is a God send.
You're very welcome. Thank YOU for watching.
Thank you so much for making this video!
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching.
Let's just say this video was a game changer for me. Thanks so much I've a believer and it works. I got mine at homedepo today. I was ready to rip this tub out,but now it stays.....
That's awesome! Thank you SO much for watching.
Sir thank you very much for this video. Having said that; you are lucky to be alive! Mixing all of those chemicals like that! That's super unsafe for your health!
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. A more objective and effective demonstration might have been to follow these steps:
Step 1. section the rusted basin into 7 sections.
Step 2.Then apply each cleaner to a separate sections.
Step 3 Scrub each section using equal force
Step 4: Wait 30 minutes to an hour
Step 5: Turn on shower to rinse away cleaners
Step 6: Evaluate how much rust was removed or remained in each section.
Step 7: Determine which cleaner was most effective
I used hydrogen peroxide and it went away on contact in seconds not scrubbing at all
I also tried hydrogen peroxide repeatedly and it did absolutely nothing on my stains. The Works did what nothing else could and I thought I'd tried everything.
@@bls4591 I also tried that to no avail. Haven't tried The Works yet, but another cleaner that works great is Zep Acidic cleaner.
@bls4591 my stains are old and baking soda vinegar, bleach, Ajax, nothing has worked.. now I'm gonna try the works or lime away.😊
I even used 30 volume developer which is stronger hydrogen peroxide. Did nothing for my tub stains. Glad it worked for you!
@@GohAhwehLike Away was a joke for me. We live on a slab of limestone and have really hard water. It did eat the chrome off my drain though!
Wow Terence is TOTALLY RIGHT. I had heavy yellow and blue stains from well water on my plastic shower base. GONE GONE GONE Thankyou!!!
That's awesome Patrick! It works AMAZING on any rusted metal as well. Thanks for watching!
Dude, I watched your vid and decided to go get "The Works" bowl cleaner and give it a go on my tubs & showers, just after having installed a complete H20 filtration system in my house....YOU ARE SO RIGHT! that stuff took it RIGHT OFF....I too, had tried the "vinegar/ baking soda" nonsense, along with some other so called cleaners.....I was BLOWN AWAY at how this stuff took it right off...just a lil scrubbing at the end for the worse spots, but man! So glad you posted this.... thanks a million !!
You're very welcome George. I just stocked up more a few days ago. Lol. You should keep some on standby. Thank you so much for watching.
@Terence The DIY'er ...yes sir...I took 3 outta 4 when I found them at big lots...shoulda took them all....lol...actually, I now have fancy water filtration so those stains aren't coming back....but, when I need to clean something else, I will head for "The Works" 👍
Great thanks. How often do you change your filters? I would think with that system it wouldn't be so bad? I have a similar set up but only one sediment filter and no salt anymore to soften. Thinking about getting a second sediment filter but wondering if it's worth it to do so? Great video and thanks so much 🎉
I love all the comparisons
Thank you Regina and thank you SO much for watching.
Iron Out. I'll say it again. Iron Out. By far the best cleaner I have found to remove rust. Spray it on and watch it work. Comes in a white spray bottle with red labeling. Be careful with toilet bowl cleaners as some have lye in them, which is an acid. Cheers
The Lysol Lime & Rust toilet bowl cleaner works wonders for the shower too with hard water stains!
Thank you Terence ! saved me a lot of time I had used a lot the same products you used and they did nothing !
the works company should pay you Royalties
You're very welcome David. I have definitely boosted their sales! Lol. Thank you SO much for watching.
Good job. Going to go get some and try it myself…
Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so very much for your help! ❤
You're very welcome Lindsey. Thank YOU for watching.
Thank you, Sir! I'll be getting the works next time I'm out
You're very welcome. Thank YOU for watching.
I've used the Works for the toilet for years and it always did a great job.... didn't know about this though.
I am removing rust from metal as I type this. The stuff is amazing. Thanks for watching.
Terence, you are the very best! Thank you so much for this video!! I went out and bought 3 bottles of The works. I had terrible hard water stains in my bathtub and the worst rust stains in my toilet. I didn't have to scrub very much and both my tub and toilet look like new! You, my friend, are a blessing!! Thank you for this!!
You have to know that rust and stains is removed by hydrochloric acid, which is in Works and Lysol. Grease and fat and dirt is removed by alcaline solution , which is in the Easy off, Weiman degreaser. The best thing is to buy straight hydrochloric acid from online, but be careful it can cause burns, use gloves
That's awesome!!! I am glad my video helped you. Thank you so much for watching.
Wow! I've been trying all kinds of stuff due to the same issues. Bar keepers seemed to work better than the others I tried that didn't touch it. But I will be trying this tomorrow!
Please let me know. I am sure you will like the results. Make sure you buy "The Works" with the yellow tag on the label. Thanks for watching.
WOW! Thanks for the tips I had used Lysol shower cleaner for years but recently rust was built up so bad the whole shower looked worse than that floor and had the lysol bowl cleaner gel on hand and wiped on with scotch bright wand and let sit 15 min. and rinsed clean looks like new. you just saved me hours.👍🏻 THANK YOU!
Yep, please keep this stuff stocked up. It's an incredible product. Thank you SO much for watching.
I have the same problems with rush stains. I use "the pink stuff the miracle cleaning paste". It works really well but it's a lot of work, I'm going to get an attachment for a drill to scrub it with, hope it works out 🤞
I have also had good experience with Zep brand acid toilet bowl cleaner. Available at Walmart in the home improvement section not the cleaning section (at least in mine) and Home Depot. A little goes a long way. It actually foams as it reacts with the buildup on my shower door. I tried diluting it but I think spraying regular strength instead of pouring it would be a better way to reduce how much I use.
Just a heads up it did upset the air quality sensor on my air filter which surprised me.
I found the Lysol lime and rust remover for toilets is pretty comparable to the zep cleaner and a little bit cheaper too
I have that problem at my apartment complex, it sucks The works I have used in my toilet and it work well also, the toilet cleaner never would had thought of that for the bathtub and shower . Thank you Terence for the great tip, you made my life easier!
You're very welcome Lisa. Thank you for watching.
@@TerenceDIY You are a lifesaver, because it is constant scrubbing and cleaning.
Thanks so much, I have a bad tub. I have stalled so long, because I didn't know what to do. Thank you!

@@TerenceDIY so I did it tonight. It totally worked but I got a little on my skin. Ends of the fingers burned a little but feel better after running under water for about 15 minutes. 😬
Yeah, you gotta be careful when applying it, but you'll be fine. Thank you so much for watching.
Thanks a million for this vid
You're very welcome. Thank you so much for watching.
I know you didn’t mix them directly but I know if you mixed certain chemical with another, it becomes poisonous so people should not be testing with 10 different products. Thank you for sacrificing yourself to show everyone which product worked best.
You are correct however, these are cleaning products that pretty much do the same thing (they all have similar ingredients). I am sure it does not say mixing this item with other cleaning solutions can create a very dangerous chemical. It does say make sure you're in a well ventialted area upon use. Thanks for watching.
Also at Menards. Now i know what to do!
Yep. Cheaper at Menards as well. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much!
You're very welcome. Thank YOU for watching.
Thank you for the experiment. I was at my witts end. I was buying Iron Out in a spray bottle but it costs a lot and I burn through a bottle every week in all my bathrooms. And the chemical smell was making me cough a lot. I'm going to buy The Works Toilet bowl today!
Please let me know how it turns out. You should get amazing result for cheap.
Iron out does get expensive! Use it in my white clothes sometimes.
I’m going to go purchase in the AM, I have children so I definitely have to keep it stainless and clean! Thanks a bunch for the vid. I literally just used the vinegar and baking soda and the rusted stain is just not budging at all. I will give The Works a try and come back and let you know my results🙂fingers 🤞 😎
I'm pretty sure you should come back with great results. Please let me know. Make sure you purchase "The Works" with the yellow tag on the label. I will await your reply. Thanks,

Blue is the opposite of orange so makes sense that it would neutralise it
One point of caution I would remove the metal drain cover as it ate the chrome off of my drain cover but it works well also I would let it sit for a while before you start scrubbing
You can also liberally apply petroleum jelly like Vaseline to it. One you're done cleaning, wipe off the excess (as much as possible) jelly and then rinse the drain cover with hot water. Learned this trick from my maintenance man, and it hasn't done me wrong yet.
thank you man i got a girl that likes taking baths and i cant have her staying the night over the way my tub was looking.
You're welcome Jay. It should clean up very well. Thanks for watching.
THANKS BRO

The Works toilet bowl cleaner worked for a rust ring in my bathtub. Just had to reapply it about 7 times
There are two bottles of The Works. Both are nearly identical. However, one has a yellow label on it. If the one you bought did not have the yellow label, it's useless. It doesn't do anything.
@@TerenceDIY got the same bottle as you have in the video with the yellow label
@@ngngwhodat6913, okay. I've had amazing success with it and continue to do so. Thank you SO much for watching.
I didnt know this was a thing until we moved into the house we are renting....I WILL NEVER BUY A HOUSE that has this problem, it feels impossible to get our space feeling clean.
I have found the RUST OUT brand to be pretty awesome!
That also works in shower tiles? thanks for awesome and helpful video!
Yes, it will work on shower tiles. Test it on a small section first, but I am confident to say it will work. I have used it on just about everything and not had one issue. Thank you so much for watching.

Thanks. Where did you buy "The Works "? I have a shower basin that has black mold in shower basin. I will try it. Can you use this on grout also? Have a blessed day.
It's at Home Depot, Menards and you can purchase it off Amazon (here's a link below). Make sure it has the YELLOW label. I would use it on grout. I'm not sure how it would work on the grout but I won't be surprise if it cleans well. The stuff is amazing.

Rust caked on stain. But this was the best video I've seen
Thank you and thanks for watching.
these bath and shower manufacturers think they are helping by putting texture in the bottoms. its stupid to keep clean., let me worry about safety and you give me a slick surace to keep sanitary!!!
For the texture of the shower floor you need a scrub brush not a scratcher or sponge
I had the same thought. Not very smart DIY-er
I have the same issue and unless the scrub brush is wire they don't touch it only thing that works is scotch Brite type or steel wool but Both load up with the iron deposits quickly.
I'm here after checking out your water filter system install from years back. Did that system always have this issue with rust? I'm looking at installing a similar system with an iron and manganese filter to cut down on the rust. Did you try this?
Also, wife says to just use the Barkeeper's Friend spray and let it sit on for awhile so it can do it's thing.
Mark, this is our new home. This area has way more rust than our previous house. The Big Blue filtration system has been amazing however, I also have a carbon tank that keeps the rust down (crystal clear water as long as I run the softener every other day). That iron and manganese filter will help. My neighbor uses them in her big blue system. Below is a link to the tank I have. If you're having a major rust issue, this is the way to go with the Big Blue filter kit.

@@TerenceDIY You're welcome. Enjoyed it.
It definitely cleans the rust stains.. but it totally killed all the good bacteria in a septic system.. which is gonna cause more problems when the septic is backing up because the bacteria isn’t breaking things down like it’s supposed to
You are correct just like most of the rust remover products out there. I guess you have to use it less frequently. Thaks for sharing that info.
I think they have changed formulas. He used to work really really good in the last four or five bottles I’ve bought not so well.
Make sure you purchase the one with the yellow label. Both bottles are near identical with the exception of that label. The plain bottle does nothing. Thank you so much for watching.
The Lysol is available in all stores but I have never seen the other product in stores, unfortunately.
Does it spray from a spray bottle alright? Like for walls.
No. However, you could go to the dollar store and buy a spray bottle and use it for that purpose. Thanks for watching!
I just found this statement about the works - The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner formula has recently changed from a 20% active ingredient to a 9.5%. Unfortunately; the 20% formula has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase. The change was brought forth by a recent government regulation made by the EPA. Just so you know! So is the one you're using the 20% or the 9.5%?
Hi Martha, it's the 9.5% active ingredient. Thank you for watching!
Yes, the Works worked so freaking good!! But now I can't find it anywhere. Now I can't find anything that works on my bathtubs and toilets 😒
I just bought The Works on 1-28-23 at a local "big lots" ...cant say I look to see what % was, but I can tell ya, it WORKED just like he showed 👍
Put it in a spray bottle so you can cover a big surface using less product. Use a little elbow grease for a nice even clean. It will stain stainless steel and chrome so be careful with your faucets! Do not spray them. This product will burn your skin so be careful not to get it on your skin. Wear gloves and ventilate the room. Powerful but effective product. You can usually find it on Amazon. Many stores no longer carry it.
@@TerenceDIY where is that product found? I live in Canada btw...
Wonder if it would work on getting the yellowing out of my kitchen vinyl floors 😯 hmm may try it. I may pour the bottle in a spray bottle.

Dollar Tree sells it also!
Unfortunately, they do not sell the one with the yellow label. They sell the regular toilet bowl cleaner made by "The Works". If you buy the Dollar Tree product, it will be a waste of money. It does nothing. It has to have the yellow label on the bottle.
It cleaned for me, however I did have to scrub. However, what upset me is that it left behind blue stains. I'm disabled, so cleaning isn't easy for me. I may have missed rinsing those areas, but now I have yet another problem I don't know how to get rid of easily. I'm trying to get my house ready to put on the market and can't afford to replace it. Can you please help me find a solution?
Problem solved and just as easy with no scrubbing. Now, I tried every product I have in the house including bleach. Nothing worked and I scrubbed. I got to thinking...what removes color? Every lady has this in their bathroom. Drumroll please! Non acetone nail polish remover! I removed it almost instantly and no scrubbing! Unfortunately, the earlier scrubbing has me in pain. I believe I've earned a nap!
That's awesome Judy!! I am glad you found a solution to the color removal. I use the stuff on a regular but I always rinse immediately. The stuff is amazing you have to admit. Rest well. You deserve it!
@@TerenceDIY absolutely! It just need to be rinced thoroughly. The areas it stained are difficult areas for me to rinse. The shower is large and I didn't think to have a cup, bucket or pot on hand to help. Here's where it gets funny. I only tried the nail polish remover, because I just ordered some AMAZING new polish remover and I didn't want my husband questioning why I bought it when I had a bottle already sitting there. So really? It served 2 purposes. Saved my butt in 2 ways. 🤣😂🤣

Will it damage cultured marble? What surface are your using it on?
Hi Joseph, I've used this stuff on many surfaces without the slightest damage. It appears to react to the iron (rust) ONLY. You should try it on a small section first, but I wouldn't be surprised if it cleans the marble back like new. I just bought 10 more bottles from Home Depot (currently $2.58 a bottle). That and iron out is the only thing that works for hard water.
Only thing is works damages aluminum! I always dilute it works everytime. But now adays not as strong as it used to be
Isn't it a waste to let it just down to the drain? I would soak a sponge or a paint brush and apply it to the area
Not really because it's inexpensive. It actually helps with drains keeping them unclogged. I've been using this stuff for over a year and it's been phenomenal. Once again, thank you for watching.
Get limeaway from dollar tree. It looks like toilet cleaner. I've used it many times and works great. Nothing else works unless you spend a lot. This stuff is $1.25. And I'm not getting paid for this(unlike everyone on RUclips)
Thanks for sharing Raymond. I've used limeaway and it does do the job however, the works is on another level. I remove rust from anything. Using it now on metal. It only cost $1.30 more. Once again, thanks for the recommendation and watching!

Was that a fiberglass tub?
Yep Dayna.
@@TerenceDIY I'm not sure what my tub is made of, it might be acrylic. So I'm afraid to tackle my small rust stain with retail cleaning products. I got some of it out with borax and peroxide and now I'm trying distilled white vinegar & baking soda. Ugh.
@@diannec2719, I don't think this stuff will harm your tub however, whatever you feel safe doing, is the best thing. I will say, that I have tried this stuff on some of EVERYTHING and it has been great. Thanks for watching.
Straight hydrogen peroxide will do even better and it's a hell of a lot cheaper!! Give it a try!!
Even though peroxide is a tad bit cheaper, this stuff goes far and beyond removing rust stains from your tub and shower. This removes deep rust from metals and stains from a variety of surface equally as good unlike hydrogen peroxide. Also, hydrogen peroxide will discolor materials, clothes, hair etc... where as this product will not. Thank you so much for sharing that information though and watching my content.
I need something to remove that yellow stain from my car
I'm not sure if I were to use this on a car because it may damage the paint.
Unfortunately this didn’t work for me and I left the cleaner in the tub too long. Fortunately enough oxiclean got both the cleaner stain and hard stain off w/ hot water. Baking soda should work better but oxiclean was all I had
Hi, did you use the bottle with the yellow label? There are two types, both in the same bottle. The one without the yellow label does NOTHING. The one with the yellow label is amazing stuff.
I have used this for many years but sad to say I can’t find this anywhere in my town anymore. All we have is the works in a spray bottle and it isn’t the same😢
Hi Robin, does Amazon deliver there? If so, they are on sale at Amazon now. Here is the link...

Dammmed ok at this point put in a spray bottle and spray the shower with it....I need that for my porcelain tub...
You're absolutely correct! A spray bottle would be great. You just have to be in a well ventilated area. Thank you SO much for watching!
