    The amount of problem solving required really fascinates me! I mean i would have never had the idea to run the engine with the clutch disengaged to air up the brakes and then roll the pump truck out on its own foot! Nice work!

    As a MAN mechanic it's weird to me that they wouldn't just send someone out to replace the prop shaft, we do it all the time.

    Powerful winch. Interesting with the two axles on the front and the rear steer, and how they follow you round. Thanks for sharing.

    • @HeavyRecoverywithSteve
      @HeavyRecoverywithSteve  2 года назад +3

      Hi James , does turn slower when leaving the second steer axle down, but reduces stress to truck chassis especially if fully loaded and reduces the weight being lifted by the recovery truck.Just got to make sure key is in the ignition and steering lock is off and follows on ok.

    • @eniggma0
      @eniggma0 2 года назад

      @@HeavyRecoverywithSteve You would be able to relieve much more stress from your truck by picking by the front of springs, i personally avoid the axle pick as much as i can and pick as front of the vehicle as i can.

  • @simonsupersi2225
    @simonsupersi2225 Год назад +2

    How does.the 2nd and rear steer work as steering wheel isnt being turned? Think camera on back of the truck would be great and less tarmac haha but do like your videos

    • @HeavyRecoverywithSteve
      @HeavyRecoverywithSteve  Год назад +2

      Hi Simon thanks for watching, the key is left in ignition so the steering lock is off and the steering wheel can turn.The 2nd steer axle which remains contact with the road will follow on just be bit slower to turn direction.This method off towing loaded trucks reduces the weight your recovery truck is lifting and reduces the stress your placing on the chassis you our recovering on a loaded 8 wheeler tipper for example.

    I know you pick up breaks downs, but what did the driver do to brake his prop ?

    • @HeavyRecoverywithSteve
      @HeavyRecoverywithSteve  2 года назад +3

      Hi Paul, i suspect the truck didnt have enough air in its system so the brakes must been holding on still when he tried to drive away.

    Why would the prop shaft turn if it was out of gear?

    • @HeavyRecoverywithSteve
      @HeavyRecoverywithSteve  2 года назад +2

      Hi thanks watching, you still have movement in the gearbox when in neutral, so thats why had to engage clutch to stop broken prop shaft turning.

      Hi Roy , yes the other end was still connected to the rear wheels and was able to turn but was still held in place by the centre bearing still.Thanks for watching.

    By the way, when youre connecting up the airlines, do you get full brake authority on the vehicle you are pulling, or it has its brakes released on the whole jurney? If so, how do you manage to not lose control over a 30-40 tonne machine?

    • @HeavyRecoverywithSteve
      @HeavyRecoverywithSteve  2 года назад +5

      Hi Zoltan , unable to brake these rigid trucks, so all the braking comes from the wrecker. Air line attached only serves to keep brakes off, Daf got a 3 stage brake retarder to keeps things under control just got to drive steady.

      That's why the military fit 2 air connectors on the front to obtain full control over the breakdown. They also fit towing eyes which makes a job like that much easier & quicker.

  • @johnbyrne3831

    Typical council. No key for the vehicle beside it,they provide no help and expect you to do it all on your own, yet if they had to do that job it would take 19 men and take 3 weeks 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦‍♂️
