From working for a contractor to now working for the big orange group, I've gained a lot of respect for you following this video. In no way would I ever have thought of taking a truck down that track, we'd have DMAX lads not drive down there, crazy.
Have driven 26t car transporter, going crazy places, but one moment here.. When hard ground ended.. I walk to see the situation and here I wouldn't even reverse mine in :) it's soft it sinks in 1 sec and road tyres become worse than on ice
Greg mate. Brilliant video as always. You mentioned fiesta van. Can we please have a update on the fleet and your honest opinions on all the equipment you have and use. But as always brilliant keep it up.
Danger! Enjoyed the video BUT - when I saw you sit the shackles on top of your rear load area I winced at the lack of a cargo barrier. Then you appeared to put all the heavy stuff in the drawers and I sighed relief, but no!, there was a massive shackle behind your head the whole time just sitting on top of the drawer unit. In Oz if a worksafe inspector saw that video you'd be getting a visit Monday! Love your rig and equipment, but that's as dangerous as hell to not have a cargo barrier between you and those massive lumps of metal. Secondly, being in Oz, our 4wd actiion is pretty hard core and I've personally seen a tow hook break and come through the back window and embed itself in the cargo barrier - you are doing recovery for a living so more likely to happen if that dodgy threaded hook let go and shot straight at you. Thanks for the great content.
I bet that felt so sweet! These boys will get all the big bucks jobs from Highways England too. Strange isn't it? Its the same everywhere, and the damage these type of operations can do "recovering" is unmentionable. Quite often more damage is done by ham fisted recovery than during the mishap itself. Easy job that could have been done in any number of ways. A Hi Lux /Isuzu/Navara/LS200 would have also done this with the correct tyres. The Towing eye error could have ended BADLY for them too in terms of vehicle and personal injury. Biggest is not always best. Most suitable is always best.. Great work Greg!
😂 fair play to u well done I had a callout for a car on its roof & thought Mr Gdp would love this for content good job I got there and police already removed it
I've camped at that place for about 20 years now, and that field is always a bog! Years ago, they wouldn't let people drive down there (or on any field for that matter), but since the change of management it's a free-for-all. Heck, even a Discovery 2 has struggled in that field before on General Grabbers!
That is incredible, ive pulled out similar to the c max with my volvo xc60 on mitchelin cross climate tires! Albeit flat ground. Who in their right mind would atempt to drive the tilt bed truck down the track without walking it.
What a burke🤔🤣that driver was, surely a walk down first to have a look would have been the proper way and second he obviously thought he could turn around in that field to load the car up😂😂shame the owner sounds like a 🔔but i enjoyed you enjoying getting it out infront of those 2 professionals 😂better to carry to much than not enough greg, love the different camera angles aswell👍🙂
Sometimes the ground is too soft to push yourself out. I drove one truck that had a horrible dump angle and wouldn't have pushed at all. If I was on a slight downgrade picking a vehicle from a plateau sometimes the deck wouldn't touch the ground. Don't miss that POS truck. One I drive now I can tilt tf out of it. No more shaking cars off in park, tilt it till it slides 😀
my old man had a call off wmas once for some off road training for pretty much the same reason, no knowledge, they had their 2 new disco's, had an emergency at a farm, didn't walk the field to see if it was pass-able, barrelled in one behind another, both got stuck.
Grass is nightmare to drive on. You need a 4x4 decent tyres. Any lorry will get stuck on grass. Been a hgv mixer driver 30 years. Always getting stuck on sites. Very easy to do damage when you get bogged down radiator oil cooler sump and burn a clutch out rip mudguards off. Sand is also another bad thing to drive on will strip a differential because of the shock loading seen it done .😁❤
Thanks for watching! Yes better to have than have not, way overkill but always ask for photos to understand the scenario but 2 pictures was all i could get! GDB
tilt slid would been good if it was on correct truck something with 4x4 or 6x6 Mercedes has few off road trucks what ideal for tilt and slide. but a truck for this job over kill by looks of it. my first car fiesta diesel 07 did worse off road than this but light weight helps you no sinking and bit low down torque helps too. been in forest on crazy hill climb on side mountain with very steep drop offs, it was tar then gravel to mud narrow track so slippy half way up handbrake useless so had to leave it in gear a week after passing my test. had clear the road fallen branch to get to top and a 3 point turn on very muddy y split in the rack and crazy angles it ended well and got out, good rain rated tyres and diesel weight on those tyres sure helped. all my city cars do bit off road like challenge so fiesta 1.4tdci 07, 1.2 i20 2011, and my newer i20 2015 on Monday i will have check ground clearance before i try any but only light stuff as cost to much to damage, but saying that non my cars ever got damaged so and steady were needed and pick correct line. i20 11 down side light engine so had to have more speed at times but not to much just right amount and cause no damage. good fun but know when you really should turn back or it costly tow
Honestly Greg an amazing video really was amazing the disco looks great too and what was that truck doing down there and what was his plans 😂well done greg
Charging her by the hour, but still wasting time setting up your camera, taking pics, running back and forth, stopping to take more pics. Don't slag the other guy off, when you are being disrespectful yourself. Do your job ASAP and act professional.
If the customer had been driving a manual car they could probably have rocked it back and forth and got it out . No way I would have a taken a 10 or 12 ton truck down that track .

@gdbrescuerecovery all the gear and mr Burke and his dad's removal and diving team have not idea mate, rather have all the ideas and very little gear. Why waste millions on kit you can't use 🤔 😂
why did they send a heavy recovery lorry down there when a lighter vehicle (the car) got stuck? Is it just me being stupid or is it not obvious that a large heavy lorry (or truck) would also get stuck
One day you will do something silly and they will take your pics and post them. Karma sucks. That is why I don't discredit the competition. It goes both ways

Afternoon! YES by having customer in DRIVE would help when going up the hill rather than pulling a dead weight, doesn't look very steep on camera. Thanks! GDB
Burke bros… complete waste of time. I used them to recover my bus broken down on a busy main road couple years ago. They came out with that truck, didn’t have any equipment or anything to actually safely recover my bus back to yard. So he had to take me back to my workshop, to get my tools and other stuff just to be able to get back to my yard. 13 hours it took from the moment they told me they were on the way to when we got back to my yard. Furthermore to this, the backend of my bus was completely grounded out going into the yard….
Why run scrap metal? why not get a Touareg instead...nothing quite like putting it out there on the telly that you are a helmet/rocket ship hybrid.....

Disco looks great, lights look the part and over equipped is better than stuck and egg on your face!
Any decent tilt and slide driver would have pushed himself with the body
Any decent driver would have reversed down, got to the field and realised it was too soft.
That truck was an SLA so no effective pushing. Trust me I tried
And I'm not the driver of the slide bed by the way. But I've been in similar situation

Good question ive had these for years!! Ill try have a gander possibly off a shop on ebay comes to mind!
I've used a UK company called rope services, ropes are made to order to the length and spec you want.
They use strips because they are safety weight rated for insurance reason, ropes aren’t.
