seems like I finally found a good icelandic recipe! I´m so in love with that and miss original skyr and of course skyr cake the most... but I also love how icelandic people pronounce words in english. So thank you in so many ways! 😊🥰
Glad you like it! I had hoped to find a way to make skyr at home, for all you beautiful travellers who can't get any more skyr in your countries... maybe one day! :)
Looks like an amazing recipe, will be experimenting to see if I could make this higher in protein ;) I loveee Skyr yogurt and I will check through your other videos to see more Icelandic stuff
I made butter biscuits with 50-50 butter a d olive oil and butter left no room for olive oil taste/aroma/flavour get near it, so you could use olive oil... nice
;) ) Questions above relates to Svið(Sheepsheads), which is very traditional Icelandic food. Unfortunately we've not been able to source these as butchers can't seem to get them in and we need to go straight to the abattoir. We're definitely looking into getting that done.
Hi! Skyr is a uniquely Icelandic thing, but it’s technically a cheese(skyrcake and no-bake cheese cake is pretty similar, Eh) and as such there’s no direct alternative to skyr. However, a cursory google search yielded this! www.naturally-nina.com/recipes/2019/7/22/uwtpmuza719f3lrnb76u32poj0wec4 Let us know how it works if you try :-)
Ah, yes, it can be a little rich on the tounge, but when making Skyr Cake you can use flavoured Skyr and add more sugar if need be! Don't forget to serve it with coffee as that helps cutting the richness.
@@IAOIceland1984 Hahaha yes, curious sounds much better! 😁 Anyway, I have been making Skyr myself for a few months. i mixed together (US brands) Siggi's, Icelandic Provisions and Trader Joe's store brand, and use whole milk. The whole trick lies in straining it for around 12 hours. Many DIY skyr-making videos available now.
By the time you've written that, skyr has become widespread across Europe and most French dairy company make their own skyr. As for the bastogne, it wouldn't be too hard to find in Germany. And by the way, Lotus speculoos are almost the same as Bastogne, which is a Belgian biscuit for a start.
@@lucassaintier1324 it was more a joke. At the time I was writing this Arla had already Skyr in Germany - and there was a comercial in Iceland where they make fun of Arla "Skyr". Meanwhile there a lots of Skyrs around (but nothing compared to the origional icelandic stuff ;))
made this and was a big hit, thank you for posting the recipe. magical with coffee
Just used this recipe to make my own! Thank you!!
Impossible= Expensive. We are on the same page with that :D Great cake!
OMG I could listen to the way you pronounce "yoghurt" all freaking day!

💪
Hello, nice recipe, already got sll the ingredients and will try it out, just one question, how many days does it last in the fridge?
I'd say about 5 days in a closed container! Let us know how it went! :)
I’ve made this cake, but it always seems to loose, not firm enough. Do you have any suggestions? I had it in Iceland and loved it.

Icelandic yogurt is my favorite! They sell some made from an Icelandic company at my Wholefoods. -USA
Kannski ómögulegt fyrir útlendinga en að gera svið með kartöflum, uppstúf og rófustöppu væri eitthvað?

Yooo, where did you get that Doritos salsa in the fridge?
At the Doritos store
In France you can find it in supermarkets, maybe it's the case for Netherlands too
I don't have a vegan substitude for yoghurt in here. What can I use ?

sorry bro, i am in canada... but google says the sub can be greek yogurt... will let you know how it turns out :-) thx for the recipe!
We finally got skyrr here in nyc from Icelandic provisions. Doesn’t taste the same though. I think it might be too strong for Americans 😫

@@IcelandFoodCentre can I use kefir instead of skyr or will the consistency be different?
@@Moss_piglets It would probably be too thin. Unless you can find thick kefir. Greek yoghurt would be the best bet.
@@IcelandFoodCentre awesome! Thanks!
Ég hef beðið eftir þessu, vá!
And now, the wait is over! We'd love to hear about your results if you make one at home! :)

Ah, a new one. In Germany there is nor real Skyr, just this fake stuff from Arla...
We'd be furious if you'd try it with Arla and told us about how it went so we would know for future reference. Absolutely furious.
@@IcelandFoodCentre did you mean curious?
