  • Here we have a Hjónabandssæla, or Wedded Bliss(if there's anything like that), one of Icelanders best known home-made treats. It's easy, inexpensive and you usually have everything you need for it, around the house!
Check out the blog for the recipe and other Icelandic foods!

I’m going to try making this with homemade plum preserves since it’s what I have. Definitely looking forward to it!

I think the best thing about Hjónabandssæla is that there really isn't any one go-to recipe for it or method of cooking it. Everyone makes a different version - My family recipe isn't baked quite as long as yours, for example which results in a cakier texture but less caramelization on the outside.
Also, don't try to BBQ your hjónabandssæla, that's a flavour I'll never forget.

This is great, thanks for posting this! Can you substitute the rhubarb jam with other kinds? Rhubarb can be hard to come by where I am!

Thank you for your recipes! I think in the video and in the written recipe in your blog the amounts of oats and flour are inverted... which ones are correct?

      Oh, you are quite right!
The video is correct, something must've got lost in translation. Should have more oats than flour! Thank you!

I am trying to make this recipe. When I googled your amounts you state in your video, to change them to cups, they differ considerably from what you have written below. And my dough is very moist compared to yours in the video when I followed the recipe below. Also, it did not cook in 7-8 minutes. What am I doing wrong?

You Smjor is the BEST on the planet!! I’ve had all kinds of premium butters but nothing comes close. I used to be able to get it locally at Whole Foods here in Massachusetts but they stopped importing it a couple of years ago, I was so sad 😔

We've heard French butter is good, Bordier to be exact.

Iceland Food Centre I’ve heard it has quite the following, never had it myself, I’ll still bet Smjor is superior. Our fav breakfast in Iceland (we rented an apartment in Reykjavik) was a couple fried eggs (which are outstanding, BTW), a slice of ham and Bonus bread toast with Smjor and berry jam. Just amazing. Oh, and Lavazza Coffee 👍🏻

      Hi Tylor!
Yes WE CAN! We're currently working on some Christmas items! The Lamb Stew you had, was it Kjötsúpa(That clear-ish soup with lamb and root veg)?
And hell yeah, Pylsur are the best! Frankfurters are the your closest bet!

Væri gaman að fá uppskrift af harðfisk hérna, þó það myndi taka sinn tíma...
Maður er bókstaflega að vera rændur ef maður kaupir þetta drasl.
Á ekki að vera svo flókið. :)

    • @IcelandFoodCentre
      @IcelandFoodCentre  4 года назад
