Growing up in a small Florida Gulf Coast town makes this movie hit too close to home.
I can’t remember any of the plot, but much of the shoreline shots were filmed on my childhood beach.
The hotel in the opening was quite extravagant and modern for its time and location, but was demolished years ago from a hurricane. I remember swimming in that pool when my cousin came into town and stayed there.
The band is my favorite part and most sentimental to me, as my small town high school band was the Amity High School Band. We wore these ancient marching band uniforms for the longest time, as they were rumored Steven Spielberg personally bought them for the band participating in the film.
For a band from a high school built about 10 years before this, they sound really damn good, and that’s credit to the crew-cut badass band director who set a standard for some years to come. The were several band directors between my tenure and the one filmed here, but the director’s office always had the Jaws Fanfare hand-notated and signed by John Williams.
With so much local nostalgia that fills a town with a neat bit of history to be proud of, it makes me wonder what other places have contributed to great films?

I always loved the (imo underrated) sequel of a perfect masterpiece, saw it many times in the 1980s (although the original had an huge impact on me, when I saw it the first time with my parents and two older sisters, early 80s, and it is still one of my favorites), it also has many memorable scenes. And I love that period between 1978 and 1982 (maybe even 1976/1986) when I see all those movies that were made around that time, including the clothing fashion lol

    Hi guys!
You saw more of the shark in this one because the shark in the original didn't work for the first half of the movie! LOL If you ever watch #1 again, be sure to look at the sky in the night scenes over the boat to see the falling stars!!
You were right about the "revenge" aspect they were alluding to, and they capitalize on that more in the following sequels.
I had to laugh when you wondered about after credit scenes - we weren't that "advanced" back then. 😂

    • @DavidvsFilm

Most larger white sharks are mature females. In the book for this it is described as female. The largest shark is the whale shark, a lovely, docile filter feeder. You can see them at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, amazing. Great whites are more a medium-large with Megamouth, Basking, Greenland, and possibly even tiger sharks outgrowing them. But they are also much more elusive so who knows?

I thought this was pretty decent sequel from a time when sequels and franchises were more rare.
In the first movie, from the perspective of the town, only TWO people (publicly) died. : the little boy and the guy who got separated from his leg. The first movie was only a big deal to US the audience, Brody, Quint, and Hooper. If it wasnt a public death, it might as well have not happened....as far as the public is concerned.
Horror trope (especially NOTED in Scream): the people having s3x never live: the guy and his girl on the boat!!
i like how somethings changed (Brody learning something : "We better check the bite radius") and some things DIDNT change (Brody cant navigate "Which way are the kids? ! Dont gimme that starboard stern crap, POINT!")

So happy y'all watched this. It's a great sequel, very satisfying I think. Loved that it still could create enough suspense for you both.
Sharks (and cats) are my fave animals so some shark facts for ya....🦈🤓
The whale shark is indeed the largest shark, can be nearly 60 ft. It also has the most teeth, some 3000 but dont fear. It's a filter feeder...not an apex predator. The basking shark is the next biggest.
The most aggressive shark, on the other hand, the bull shark has up to 50 rows of teeth. 😮
A great white will cycle through 20,000 teeth in their lifetime. This is why so many people find shark teeth on Florida beaches. They shed them!
You thought Jaws looked fast? Yah, they are the second fastest. 25 mph on average. The mako can do 45 mph though! Deep Blue Sea is a fun watch...and the sharks are (gmo'd) makos!

All and all the movie was prety good. I read the book after seeing it the shark was a pregnant female in the book and was 30 feet long that was why it was so big. Also why it was eating so much . At rhe end of the book it gave birth just before it dies. Which was supposed to leave the story open for another book. How ever the movie didn't go that route. Never heard back from the message or email I sent you....just wanted to say, the sequel to the book you ordered is now published and live.

I’m so sorry!! I haven’t yet- I’ve been swamped with my full-time job plus the channel, but it’s still next on my list of readings :) I will however go buy the sequel right now!!! On Amazon right?

@@DavidvsFilm Indeed. I'll email you a link to it. This one is a bit cheaper. I got all the kinks worked out with publishing stuff now. Technically I have 3 books published, but the other one isn't a story, it's kinda my "1984" in a way. Has a different pen name to. I also made an Author Page that I link all my published stories under. So currently only the first and now the sequel is on it. If you favorite that page, it might make it easier to follow my stuff.

@@DavidvsFilm Also no need to apologize, I was beginning to think you didn't like the book and simply were ignoring me because you didn't want to say you didn't like it lol.

Awwww, bite me!😱 With "Shark Week" coming up, it's time to go out and have a grilled shark steak dinner...kinda tit-for-tat after watching this movie. I just don't love to see food, I love seafood! 😋

I like this movie better than the first.
    1. Eye candy. (both sexes) Especially Tina Wilcox/Ann Dusenberry.😍😋
    2. I like the interaction between the kids. Except when they're stupid. The Helo sees you. No need to be attracting attention.
    3. The woman in the boat at the beginning pouring gasoline on herself was stOOOOOOOOOpid X 100
    4. The biggest mistake these people make is re-electing that idiot, Mayor.
    5. "Elvis" is played by Keith Gordon. Two notable roles are Arnie in Stephen King's "Christine" and with Rodney Dangerfield in "Back to School".
    6. DON'T do the next one. Roy Schieder read the script and refused to play Brody. He didn't want to do this but was under contract. He behaved so badly that he got released for the third one. It's that bad.

These movies created a huge love of shark movies for me...even the really bad ones like Ghost Shark, Sharktopus, Sand Sharks and Ice Sharks.
3 is good. I enjoyed it but 4 sucks.
