I love both Addams family movies but I must admit the second is my favorite, I hope you and Marc do a reaction to that one as well. "But Debbie, pastels?"
Fun Fact: The reason Morticia Addams snips the roses from the stems is that, in the OG newspaper cartoon and the 1960s television show, Morticia loves her roses, but Gomez is allergic to them. So, she snips off the roses, but can keep her hobby of gardening them. That's how much she loves her husband.
Raul Julia is the heart of these 2 Addams movies for me. He did something different than John Astin's 1960s take.. which was more like Groucho Marx, but he kept his "amorousness", infectious enthusiasm, and athleticism, but adding his own unique spin on it. Astin kind of created a lot of Gomez's personality on that show.. in the comic strip Gomez wasnt nearly as fleshed out.
Trivia: in the original cartoons drawn by Charles Addams the characters did not have names. They were given names for the original TV series. The sequel to this is a perfect Thanksgiving movie.
This, Values, Now and Then, and Casper all came out during my formative years. Owned them on vhs and did my best to wear them out. I definitely have a type now thanks to them. This family is pure love and acceptance.
As many times as I've seen this and never realized the Dr was Roz from 9 to 5!! Good catch! No family has more style than the Addams. Also this is a rare case where the sequel is every bit as good (some say even better) as the original.
Thank Todd!! The Tootsie wig threw me off, but the voice is what gave her away. You’re right about the style, and it’d be hard to say which Addams has the most style, but I have special place in my heart for Cousin Itt. 😁 He’s a badass.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but The Addams Family was a musical on Broadway! It opened in 2010, following a different storyline that the films, and starring Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia.
I love how they open the movie with a classic Charles Addams cartoon, and then sprinkle more throughout the movie. As well as one or two jokes from the original TV show. The sequel is easily as good, if not just a bit better.
Hey Jeff!! Yeah I wish I was familiar enough with the cartoon/original show to catch some of the specific references you mentioned. That’s always fun :)
@@DavidvsFilm The bear rug is from the 1960's TV series. You should look up some of the original comics and watch the original TV series, more fun and perfect casting in that series.
Funny thing, when coming to with the names fur the show, Addams called the son Pubert, but the studio didn't like it. Warmer Bros. took that name and used it for the baby in Values.
I also know Anjelica Huston as the evil stepmother from Ever After: A Cinderella Story. she slayed in that, as she does in every role she takes on. she was also in one of my favorite guilty pleasure series that hardly anyone remembers: Smash. I look forward to your reaction to the sequel: Addams Family Values. 🤩
I was going to make a similar comment. She conveyed such cruelty in that role and the film is not to be missed. If you have "never seen" it or done a vid, I heartily recommend it.
I was chiefly worried about Gomez and Lurch when they made the remake, because I couldn't imagine topping the classics. And then when I heard that Christopher Lloyd was cast as Uncle Fester, I was really worried, fearing it would all just be an embarrassment for everyone involved, and do a criminal injustice to the franchise. But they pulled it off really, really well. A classic in its own right now.
I can completely see how worrisome that would be. If I'm being honest, even though this actor portrayed Lurch very well, I probably slightly prefer the original from the tv show.
The opening sequence with the carolers is based on one of Charles Addams' original cartoons, as is the sequence with Uncle Niknak's suits in the attic. The bit with the man in the train in very reminiscent of an episode of 'The Twilight Zone'.
@@jeffmartin1026 Possibly. However, I'm thinking of the TZ in which a man finds himself in a deserted town. He tries to leave on the train, but it keeps circling back to the station. He leans on a tree, and it falls over, turning out to be artificial. From time to time, he hears a child laughing. Finally, the 'sky' is lifted off, and he sees a giant child looking down at him, and he realizes he's in a toy town layout.
30:56 "Springfield ." 😂😂😂 That had me dying. It went by so fast, I hope everyone caught the reference. Such a ridiculous claim, it works goes perfect with the humor of this film.
A little extra background on Angelica Huston's background: her father, John Huston, was a great director whose resume covered bitter, deep westerns like "Treasure of the Sierra Madre"; one of the first film noirs, "Maltese Falcon", and comedy/adventure "The African Queen". And so much more! His father, Walter Huston, was a great actor, directed to perfection by his son in "Treasure of the Sierra Madre", and, if you want to see him at his twinkling best, catch in "The Devil and Daniel Webster". For more reflective acting, try "Dodsworth".
I saw this in theaters when it came out, and I stood and applauded Wednesday and Pugley's performance. I was the only one, but I'm an Addams at heart. Huston said during the filming of the scene with the children, she finished her line, the one child started crying, and within minutes, all 20+ kids were crying. She forgot they left that part in. The actress who played Grandmama died. Carol Kane took over for Values. Huston also played the Evil Queen in Michael Jackson's Captain EO, a 3-D movie once at Disneyland
Between her role as Wednesday in both Addams movies and as Kat in “Casper”, Christina Ricci was just such a cool girl to me as a kid. Wanted to be like her so bad!
I loved watching The Adams Family TV series when I was young. All the other TV shows were in bright colors of the 1960's...this show was shot in black and white.
It wasn't until I watched this reaction that I realized where I'd seen the fake mother from. She was Roz in 9 to 5, the nosy co-worker who actually seemed to like their boss... I was flabbergasted.
If I remember correctly, Anjelica Huston was lit with the eye light early on in her career and loved how it translated on film, so insisted on being lit such in most all her roles. They went to 11 for this and I am here for it.
She has also said that the Morticia costume was incredibly restrictive of her physical movements, which caused her to make most if her acting choices with her eyes rather than her body. Barry Sonnenfeld caught on to it and made the stylistic decision to begin dramatically lighting her eyes.
Such great info- thank you!! Yeah, we mentioned Bette Davis briefly in the reaction, and I remember hearing that she insisted on having her own personal lighting guy for every movie she did. She understood that the lighting was everything when it came to her "look", and it was the one hire that she insisted upon.

The girl scout was played by Harmony from Buffy the Vampire slayer show (and Angel), Mercedes McNab. Excellent cast. Fantastic homage to the original show as well as a fun movie on its own. Great Halloween movie or one just to pick up your spirits.
I haven't watched this movie in many years, and just now, when they showed the judge (in court, not milk-covered having breakfast), I had this realization "he's the guy from the Jeffersons!". I only saw a dozen episodes of The Jeffersons, dubbed in Italian, on an Italian channel, n the morning before getting ready for school... like 20? 30? years ago. I checked with IMDB and I'm actually right. I love when something like this happens!!!
I've always thought it would be cool to see a series based on the Addams Family's neighbors. There's so much to mine there. On one hand, they're the frickin' Addams Family. They're not always the most comfortable neighbors to live next to. Say what you will, sometimes you need a good night's sleep and the bloodcurdling screams in the night will keep you up. On the other hand, neighborhood safety (from outside threats) goes up, and I'm pretty sure the whole neighborhood comes together to watch from a safe distance when the Jehovas Witnesses star walking up to the Addams Mansion.
I agree as well, since I was a kid I was hoping I'd be adopted by either or I was separated at birth lol. The Addams' specifically but either family would have been awesome.
@@DavidvsFilm it would been fun to have The Addams as my parents, The Munsters as my aunt and uncle, I Dream of Jeni and Bewitched as my aunts and uncle too all living on the same town.
I think one of the reasons so many of us were skeptical when we heard the cast list was that the stars were so well known for their serious dramatic work. Stuff was a lot more ridgid about comedy vs drama. TV talent doesn't mix with movie talent. Not there weren't exception or things changing but people really got hung up on expectations. And pigeon holing. I did. This was delightfully fun and subverted expectations by being fun and stupid in the best way. Over the top and dry. Raunchy and family friendly. Plus just visually cool.

By far one of my absolute favourite movies, this and the second one. I remember when it came out and my 7 year old self found her goth self and never looked back 😅
Thank you! I figured they would have had to, but I just didn't remember seeing anything about it. But with Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane!!! That was amazing, I bet.
Aww, I loved this one when I was younger. I did favour the sequel tho. Wednesday's storyline and another character that - the actor - just stole the show. One of my favourite actors actually, without spoiling it. 🤫 Christina Ricci did such a good job in this one. All her lines are delivered so well, such as when her and Pugsley are sitting at the table and she just death stares and says, 'Stop it'. 😂
RIP Raul Julia ❤ I named my black lab Wednesday after Christina Ricci's version of her, She was the best Wednesday plus I'm an 80s and 90s kid ❤ The sequel is also fantastic some say better than the 1st, it's a tie for me
Angelica Huston is great in the TV show Smash as well. A great series about the ins and outs of putting together a Broadway show, produced by Steven Spielberg, two seasons.
I remember that!! Never watched it, but I definitely remember. I did NOT know she was in it, however- that makes me want to check it out more now. Thanks!
This and values absolutely formed a huge part of who i am, i was obsessed as a child, absolutely watch values this is amazing but values is just that teeny bit better
Angelica Houston had to have tapes to angle her eyes and snatch her jawline. She also had to wear a metal corset to get the right shape and posture. She couldn't lay down or relax her back the entire time she was in costume.
Happy Movie Monday, David & Marc! And Happy Spooky Season! 👻🎃 This is such a great movie. Easily one of my must-watch movies that I have to watch every spooky season. I'm already going to highly recommend the sequel. For more Christopher Lloyd, I very highly recommend the "Back to the Future" trilogy if neither of you have seen it, 1988's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", and 1994's "Angels in the Outfield". For more Angelica Houston, I very highly recommend the 1998 "Ever After: A Cinderella Story". And for more Christina Ricci, I very highly recommend the 1995 "Casper". Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
My favorite family. Grew up loving these movies and the TV series (original and animated.) I always related so hard to Wednesday as the weird "goth" kid lol. The sequel is even better and perfect for Thanksgiving. 🖤
Hi David and Marc!!! I'm glad you are reacting to this one because it's one of my faves. And you are right! Angelica Houston is perfection in this but she has many good roles. For example you can see her in Ever After and omg I just realize that I have seen both Addams Family and Ever After way to many times 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Though was very good the sequel addams family values was even better. I think is a different actress playing grandma in the sequel i think am correct in saying.
While I like the Adams Family movies, I was disappointed at how completely they changed the details from the details established on the TV show. In the movie Grandmama was Morticia's mother, In the TV show Grandmama was Gomez's mother. In the movie Uncle Fester was Gomez's brother, In the TV show Uncle Fester was Morticia's uncle. In the movie Morticia and Gomez met at a funeral, In the TV show Grandmama set up an aranged marriage for Gomez (who was a tremendous hypochondriac at the time) with Morticia's sister Ophelia. But Gomez and Ophelia couldn't stand each-other, whereas it was love at first sight between Gomez and Morticia. Ophelia stood Gomez up at the alter, so he happily married her maid of honor Morticia instead. In the movie Gomez's parents were both dead, In the TV show Gomez's mother (Grandmama) set up an arranged marriage for him with the daughter of her college roommate (played by Margaret Hamilton AKA the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz movie).
Not counting the cast of Wednesday on Netflix, this is my favorite casting for The Addams Family. Specifically, Anjelica Huston as Morticia is sensational, and Christina Ricci as Wednesday is iconic.
Holy crapppp!!!! You are completely right! Wow, I had to go back in my Epcot kid memories to recall that one, but yeah, you are 100% correct on that! Cool

The Addams Family was on Broadway! I saw it in 2010 it was so much fun. You should check out the cast recording
I mean I figured it must have been!! But I didn't remember it. Thank you!! I'll see if I can find the recording :)
@ it’s about Wednesday falling in ✨love✨😗
Aww, I loved this one when I was younger. I did favour the sequel tho. Wednesday's storyline and another character that - the actor - just stole the show. One of my favourite actors actually, without spoiling it. 🤫 Christina Ricci did such a good job in this one. All her lines are delivered so well, such as when her and Pugsley are sitting at the table and she just death stares and says, 'Stop it'. 😂
RIP Raul Julia ❤
I named my black lab Wednesday after Christina Ricci's version of her, She was the best Wednesday plus I'm an 80s and 90s kid ❤
The sequel is also fantastic some say better than the 1st, it's a tie for me
Aww I love that you named your lab Wednesday! That's perfect! 80s & 90s kids are where it's at, btw ;)
Addams Family Values is even better!
its really amazing how much different Doc Brown looks as Fester 🤣
Great Scott! 😁
I think "ooky" is the word "OK" or "okay" forced to rhyme with kooky and spooky. The Addams family is altogether okay.
Omg i request this movie like over a year ago ..... finally guys!!!! ❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I know! Haha never say never! We get there eventually ;) Such a great movie, and a great recommendation from you, of course. Thanks 😁
@@DavidvsFilm go to the next movie, even funnier, please 😁😁😁
Angelica Houston had to have tapes to angle her eyes and snatch her jawline. She also had to wear a metal corset to get the right shape and posture. She couldn't lay down or relax her back the entire time she was in costume.
Dang! Dedication! It paid off though- she absolutely slayed that role.
Happy Movie Monday, David & Marc! And Happy Spooky Season! 👻🎃
This is such a great movie.
Happy Spooky Season, Randee!!! I completely forgot about a lot of the movies you mentioned (Angels in the Outfield!). And Casper too. Thank you!!
The second one is even better IMO
My favorite family. Grew up loving these movies and the TV series (original and animated.) I always related so hard to Wednesday as the weird "goth" kid lol. The sequel is even better and perfect for Thanksgiving. 🖤
Hi David and Marc!!! I'm glad you are reacting to this one because it's one of my faves. And you are right! Angelica Houston is perfection in this but she has many good roles. For example you can see her in Ever After and omg I just realize that I have seen both Addams Family and Ever After way to many times 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
CAUTION: First three rows will get gore
Haha right?? Pass out the ponchos.
Both films great, but Addams Family Values is my favorite ❤
I grew up on the old tv show so I absolutely love these movies.
Ooky is supposed to mean gross. Kind of like icky only to rhyme the other words.
Yo David, been a little while since I watched a video of yours, these two movies are always a classic. Also, you know I gotta ask, you read my books yet??? It's been like over a year lol.
My parents' place has a second floor kitchen. I definitely wouldn't call it fancy
He says, as he wipes his mouth with a $5 bill. 🤣😉
@@DavidvsFilm lmao not even, that might actually be the total amount of money I have in my bank account currently. It depends largely on where you live.
@@kilian-one-l haha I hear ya
Angelica and Raul made such a sexy couple. And the lighting of her gorgeous face is just stunning!! Such a fun movie. Great, fun reaction guys!! 🖤
It was turned into a musical.
Morticia said "Entrails?"
I love your Wednesday coffee mug! I just noticed it! ☕️🖤
Thank you!!! Yeah, that one is definitely one of our faves.
Have you watched Fright Night with Chris Sarandon? For Spooky season, perfect! Camp as pink knickers and actually quite scary. The ideal horror film. Xxxx
Hey ho and a Happy Halloween guys, much love always, that was great fun
Did anyone else think that Marc had long brown hair because of the background and the chair/head support? 🤔🤭
People always think I’m wearing a veil lol.
@@DavidvsFilm Haha! A blushing bride?
Enjoyed watching the Addams Family with you both. And I agree, Christopher Lloyd was absolute perfection as Fester, and there could not have been a better choice than Angelica Huston to play Morticia! Frankly, the entire cast was chef's kiss!🤌
There is a Broadway musical adaption. Quite good.
Angelica Huston was great, but so was Raul Julia, he's awesome as Gomez.
😲high pitch squeal😲 I loveee this movie 🫶😃
Woohoo!!!! So dark and good 😁🦇
@@DavidvsFilm you have to watch the 2nd one now! It's just as good as this one 😁
Puggsley is played by Jimmy Workman, and is Ariel Winters older brother. I think people these days who are familiar with her pick up on the resemblance.
WHAAAAATTT??????! No way! I like to consider myself somewhat learned in pop culture and familial relations, but I had no idea about this! Thank you.
His other sister was auditioning for Wednesday - he was cast serendipitiously.
I love your guys’s T-shirts!
Thanks!! Good ol' Amazon- ;)
Though was very good the sequel addams family values was even better. I think is a different actress playing grandma in the sequel i think am correct in saying.
While I like the Adams Family movies, I was disappointed at how completely they changed the details from the details established on the TV show.
In the movie Grandmama was Morticia's mother,
In the TV show Grandmama was Gomez's mother.
In the movie Uncle Fester was Gomez's brother,
In the TV show Uncle Fester was Morticia's uncle.
In the movie Morticia and Gomez met at a funeral,
In the TV show Grandmama set up an aranged marriage for Gomez (who was a tremendous hypochondriac at the time) with Morticia's sister Ophelia. But Gomez and Ophelia couldn't stand each-other, whereas it was love at first sight between Gomez and Morticia. Ophelia stood Gomez up at the alter, so he happily married her maid of honor Morticia instead.
In the movie Gomez's parents were both dead,
In the TV show Gomez's mother (Grandmama) set up an arranged marriage for him with the daughter of her college roommate (played by Margaret Hamilton AKA the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz movie).
Pretty sure that is the director in the little train😅
Love it
Angelica Huston and Jack Nicholson were a couple for almost 20 years. This is about my speed I hate horror movies
Hello David How's Your Day Today?😊
Daniel my man! It’s good, thanks, how are you?
Nice knockers 💀
Hahahaha you know me.. zero maturity.
@DavidvsFilm ha ha
Not counting the cast of Wednesday on Netflix, this is my favorite casting for The Addams Family. Specifically, Anjelica Huston as Morticia is sensational, and Christina Ricci as Wednesday is iconic.
Anjelika isthe alien queen in Captain EO with Michael Jackson!
Holy crapppp!!!! You are completely right! Wow, I had to go back in my Epcot kid memories to recall that one, but yeah, you are 100% correct on that! Cool
I'm confused what happened to October spook's and boo's
Posada is latin american culture, not spanish.
Ah ok good to know, thanks. All I know is that the restaurant had free sopaipillas.
Hi ya'll! Such a fun film. A little piece of joy. It'll be cool to see how the Wednesday series colors your take, David. Marc, I don't remember, if you told us, if you've seen Wednesday or not. Anyway, that's enough... Thanks for sharing! Here we go! :)
Thank you!! I have, yes (reactions are on the channel 😁), and LOVED it. Marc has seen a few of the episodes. Can’t wait for Season 2!!!
That intro gotta go!
Hey fellas! Good, fun choice to start the season. Think yall fid Clue last yr right to kick it off? So my 10 yo is soooo into Wednesday. Shes been watching a ton of the b& w og eps & she went as her for Halloween last yr. We found this great outfit w a doll & wig to match & she purposefully walked around frowning all night w no smile. It was great! This yr , shes all into Agatha so not sure how that costume will turn out lol. Great, fun reaction as always!❤️💞❤️ oh & fyi, u do know that Uncle Fester is Gomez uncle in the show, but for whatever reason the movies made him his brother!! Alot of folks dont know or remember that!🖤🦇🖤
@DavidVsFilm Okay, gurlz, the sequel is BETTER. And keep that girl scout in mind. Meanwhile, for funzies, since you like the silly horror-ish campy, since I am poor af, and can't donate, I can give you the benefit of my actually vast movie experience. I am 56, and used to work at Blockbuster. If you have not seen them, you will want to see the following: "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark," "Love at Stake," and Russell Crowe's first movie, playing gay, "The Sum of Us." Jack Thompson (the lawyer from "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil") plays his dad. Bring a tissue. And ask me if you want specific recommends, 'cause I got them lined up. Horror, Sci-Fi, Comedy, and the combos thereof. I can't wait for you to do the sequel to this. OH, and lest I forget, there are two seasons of shorts (all around 6 minutes, so you can binge in under 3 hours), which the official Addams family estate ordered to stop being done, but allowed to remain up on YT. The actress/writer/producer is BRILLIANT. It is, "Adult Wednesday Addams." I PROMISE, you will not regret it. She walks. She talks. She gets her hair done. #NoSpoilers. Be well, my young brothers in smarms, and remember to tell the arseholes: Don't try to throw shade in my forest.
