Does anyone have a go-to method to stop pilling? On the one hand I want to find THE Solution... on the other hand I don't know how much more disappointment my poor soul can take 🥲
Only thing that works for me is deliberately under applying, letting it dry, going on with another tiny layer etc until my face is adequately covered. Will only do this bc I hate wasting product if a sunscreen pills I usually never buy it again (looking at you drunk elephant!)
Ok so I am currently using a sample of this spf… I don’t like it first of all and will not be buying a full size! My method for NOT pilling is.. Clean face Toner if you use it Only ONE treatment product and WAIT for that product to completely dry down! No moisturizer… I have pretty “normal” skin type so the spf is enough moisture for me. If you have dry skin I recommend moisturizing really well at night and just splashing your face with water in the morning. I am sure an oily tye would be just fine without the moisturizer step. Put on the full amount of spf in one go… do not try to layer it gradually! Add really rub it in… Yes… keep rubbing! It will start to look like its pilling but keep working it into the skin! The “pilling” will smooth out as you work it in. This has been working for me. I definitely don’t like it… they really need to reformulate! Also if you wear makeup don’t apply that for a while after applying the spf.

I'm in budgetarian mode right now and just trying to content myself with plain old NIvea Sunscreen for kids till my pocket is more stuffed. That Glow Recipe sunscreen is instabanned already. Thanks for taking the hit for many of us sunscreen hunters Michelle. 🤗

i absolutely love skin1004 (pronounced skinangel, i believe?) ♥️ i’ve had at least one skin1004 product in my routine for the past 3 years. their ampoule is heavenly on my sensitized/retinized skin, and their waterfit sunscreen is SO nice for daily use. now that it’s wintertime and i’ve forgone using any base makeup & foundation (even though i still have visible blemishes - trying to be ok w looking like a normal human lol) i might look into the tone-up sunscreen :) awesome video michelle! i love this sponsorship for you!
The Glow Recipe sunscreen is a disaster. The brand even recommends patting on the sunscreen to prevent pilling, but does that even provide an even layer of sun protection? Surely not if you compare it to furniture painting. Dabbing paint with a brush won't provide you with an even coat of paint in the same way as brushing it on layer by layer. I hope they reformulate it soon. It's even worse considering that Glow Recipe's products aren't exactly affordable.
I have settled upon Skin Aqua for my go to for face, neck, decollete', hands and as. They just came out with a large size with a pump top. Silly, can reapply, great protection, no cast, no pilling. Can use under makeup as a moisturizer and easily reapply.
I have never had any pilling issues with the Kose Suncut Essence, and now it makes sense.... I have dry skin. 😁And you are correct, it is one of my absolute favorites.
Benton sunscreen was my first Asian sunscreen that made me fall in LOVE with sunscreens. I tried their mineral one and while it looks great on the skin there’s a slight scent that doesn’t jive with me. On the other hand the mineral sun stick from benton is a holy grail! I keep one in my purse or car and one with my sunscreens it’s amazing for touch up doesn’t pill it’s the only mineral sunscreen that doesn’t pill. I’m about to try the isntree physical sunscreen next because I hate fragrance I hope it looks as good as Benton physical
The Glow recipe one is the main one that I was interested in as I've heard many bad things about it . I love skin 1004 as a brand for their other stuff like the ampoule and creams, so I think I'll try that one
Omg yes I wanted to love the glow recipe but it pilled soooo bad! I have the skin1004 one coming in the mail and I'm optimistic from all the great reviews.
I used to use the light blue Kosé suncut sunscreen line (it's the same as the gold one but not water resistant) and it was my absolute favourite. Never pilled on my skin, left no white cast (given that my skin is pretty fair) and sooo affordable. Unfortunately they discontinued it for some reason, so I switched to the water resistant line (I'm using the gel). It works for my skin too but it doesn't feel as nice as the other one. And it's more expensive. I hope they'll bring back the light blue line eventually.
I use Skin Aqua UV moisture milk SPF 50+ PA+++ (blue bottle) and I LOVE IT! It works well on my oily skin, my skin drinks it, doesn't feel greasy on my face and it doesn't pill however I never layer anything when I wear sunscreen so maybe that's why (?). Also the best thing is, it's cheap here in Indonesia and it's available everywhere and is halal certified 14/10 💯
The EWG would have you rubbing dirt on your skin to protect it from the sun. I was wondering what you thought about the active Methylene Blue as sun protection. There has been a lot of buzz over Methylene Blue being the best antioxidant out there. I trust your judgement on the subject.
great video, "skin bread" made me cackle. Interested to try some of these options. Im currently using Eucerin's factor 50 Oil Control Dry Touch Sun Gel-Cream Ultra Light and despite the name being a mouthful ive been pleasantly surprised by the texure, finish and wear for a suncream from the pharmacy in the UK. It does sting my eyes a little though if i rub them by accident. Would be interesting to see your opinions on some easily accessible suncreams from somewhere like Boots next time you happen to be in the UK!
I actually went to Europe recently and grabbed a whole bunch of European sunscreens, including the Eucerin Oil Control which I've really been enjoying! I'll be reviewing those at some point - the "to try" bucket is overflowing 😅
Hi Michelle, The Ego Azclear azelaic acid pills on me...but it is still one of my favourite products! I can only apply it when I'm make-up free at home all day, or at night. I can't wear it under make-up. Also, if I apply the John Plunkett Superfade Original (hydroquinone) too thickly, it can sometimes pill. Maybe pilling can occur when certain products are applied too heavy-handed? Or, whatever has been applied underneath. (Although I can understand anyone who applies sunscreen generously)... However, it is a waste if the product just rolls off your face. Anyway, I buy the "Original" rather than the "Face" version of the Superfade (hydoquinone) ... because it's the same product & strength just more economical. If I apply a sparce amount of Superfade to my face and then apply foundation & powder there is a 'healthy glow' that eminates from beneath my makeup. When I have done this I have been told that my skin looks "radiant" "good"/"healthy." etc. Although, this technique can only be done when staying indoors, or out at night...because I don't apply hydroquinone if there any chance of my face confronting sunlight. We are fortunate that be can purchase hydroquinone in Australia OTC. I am loving the Aldi (Australia) Ombre Daily Defence SPF 50+ broad spectrum face moisturiser...both the regular and tinted versions. It is so light and comfortable to wear. It doesn't sting my eyes, it's fragrance free and only costs Au$3.99! The tinted version is not too dark for my fair skin and not orangey at all. The non-tinted version absorbs into the skin well and doesn't leave a cast on me. No pilling either. 👱♀️❤
My favorite sunscreen of all time is anthelios uvmune from la roche posay! is amazing, but since Im into korean skin care and all my skincare products are korean, I would like to try some
Been using the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence for years until I found Suncut UV Perfect Gel and it has become one of my favorite sunscreens together with Nivea UV Super Water Gel. Both are very light on the skin and it doesn’t smell like alcohol at all. It doesn’t sting my eyes too unlike the Biore one. The only difference is that the Kose one is waterproof and has 4PA+ while Nivea only has 3PA+ and is not waterproof tho it’s perfect if you only stay indoors. Regarding the pilling, I guess I’m one of the lucky ones to not have experience it even with oily skin.
The suncut sunscreen pills on me too which is a shame because it's lovely. I got Skin Aqua sunscreen gel and love it it doesn't pill and basically looks and almost feels like i'm not wearing anything.
I got rosacea and therefore very sensitive eyes. While I tolerate the beauty of joseon, I can't use the Benton around my eyes. I guess it's the rosemary oil 😕
I only experience pilling with the suncut essence when I wear a silicone-rich moisturizer underneath or after a long day of wearing a mask because of the friction. It's really strange that it pills on some people no matter what they do
I loooove the Kose one but I also have oily skin and it pills on me too! Weirdly though, on my body it doesn't, so it's my go-to neck/body sunscreen (I have much less oily body haha)
So glad you reviewed the Skin 10004 Water Fit Sun Serum. I’ve been considering purchasing it for sometime now but I was looking for a good review first. I’ll definitely pick it up the next time I purchase sunscreen
I also liked the Scinic one. There were times though that it made my eyes water. But i found it better than the Benton (which also stung a bit, lol).. 😊💞
I have normal to dry skin and the Kose Suncut also pilled on my skin. Actually it’s the only sunscreen I’ve ever tried that has pilled on me. Bummer because I really like the lightweight texture, but I won’t be repurchasing.
i wondererd, when i saw the protection ingrdients: Octocrylene and Homosalate are safe ? ive read somethnig about being a possible carcinogen and the other could be hormonal disruptive ...
I believe the Suncut UV Perfect Gel version contains lemon extract. Do you believe this is a safe sunscreen ingredient when it may cause photosensitivity?
quick multi part question, pls: do chemical sunscreen compounds lose efficacy over time after application, because they absorb the UV, there by going through a chemical reaction (covalent)? is sweating the only way to reduce sunscreen efficacy? if a person doesn't sweat is reapplication every 80 mins necessary? lastly, how does one suppose to deal w sunscreen if it needs reapplication every 80 mins, while one's wearing makeup... (as an immunobiochemist I don't have that many colleagues or other scientists well versed in the cosmetics' industry chemistry, so I feel blessed to have found your channel.)
the Suncut only pills up on me occasionally and only in a few spots???? and I'm not sure exactly why. usually it is fine. I used it as my outdoor sports sunscreen all summer and it lasts through sweat and high heat.
thank you so much for such a thorough review! i'm buying through stylevana with their black friday sales and am definitely going to pick up the SKIN1004 sunscreen. may i ask what you think about the ATOPALM MLE cream after using it? i have bought the Lagom cream based on your rec before and really liked it. i'm considering the Atopalm cream now for the winter. thank you!
Zinc cream on the face isn’t a fad. It’s been around for decades. Sportsmen and women here in Australia often have zinc across the nose when playing sport.
@@oscardog6719 totally agree, I remember seeing mountaineers with it on their faces as well. But surely we've come a long way since then with products, almost like people still using toothpaste to spot treat blemishes.
Every Korean sunscreen I've tried has been a complete fail. Either because it leaves a crazy white cast or it makes me look like a grease ball... I had to give away my Glow Recipe - greasy and pilling. I love a Japanese one though! Senka UV Milk. Silky feeling on the skin.
I don't like the glow recipe spf as well, for some reason it feels like it was just sitting on top of my skin and it gave me white cast. It just didn't work for my dry skin, returned it at sephora.
You've mentioned that these sunscreens are not approved by the Australian TGA, but was wondering whether or not they were still suitable for use in Australia and if that is something I can somehow find out? I've only recently heard that Asian sunscreens aren't approved as suitable for use in Australia
Use at your own discretion. Take into account the level of sun exposure you're likely to have that day, the humidity levels and type of activity you're planning. I personally use Korean sunscreen on my face and neck on the daily as it agrees with my very sensitive, redness prone yet oily skin. However, I would not rely on it for days when I'm spending extra time outdoors or sweating a lot, as they're usually not that water resistant. Go for the TGA approved 50+ with water resistance for those occasions for sure.
I loooove Glow Recipe, but their SPF is a huge no for me. No matter how much I used, what I used it with, how I applied it, etc, it pilled every single time, and I have SUPER dry skin with eczema and rosacea, and the GR spf was SO greasy on me🤷♀️
What’s the deal with blue light? I mean, it’s everywhere, in sunlight, not just from devices. And, they have blue LED devices for acne. I mean honestly, how as a physicist can I take the demonizing of the visible spectrum seriously?
Also If any one knows of supper mat finish sunscreen I need to know I’ve tried 13 different kinds and yes I would love chemical with good filters but just want to not look sweaty
Have u tried garnier sensitive advanced uv face fluid spf50? That one is super amazing for oily skin. Sinks in in a blink of eyes, unscented, no whitecast, great finish and doesnt turn my skin into oil mess even after hours
Can you comment on whether or not avobenzone stains hair? It’s been really hard to find an American sunscreen without it unless it’s a mineral sunscreen leaving a white cast.
The glow recipe one will be effective when you're doing a lazy skincare or just the sunscreen. It works for me if i'm on the lazy mode lol otherwise it will be pilling
I got that Benton sunscreen in the green tube on a whim to try it out - I thought it smelled like a lime flavored popsicle, I didn't detect any rosemary at all! 😂
Hello, I would really like some clarity with wearing asian sunscreens in Australia? Is it safe to use? They don't seem to be ARTG approved from what I can tell but at the same time, I would really like try out more cosmetically elegant formulations. Not to say Australia doesn't have any, but I would like to broaden my choices. Hope someone can help me out. Thanks :)
I guess if you overlooked the ewg marketing nonsense and the whole brand philosophy this sunscreen is not half bad. There are just so many "clean beauty" brands in Korea.
Yeah, the product itself is great really! But there are a lot of similar Kolmar-created sunscreens on the market now, so it's hard for me to recommend the one with the most deceptive marketing (and it isn't cheaper or anything either...)
Okay, I've been wondering for too long if Australian and New Zealand were "Western" countries because of their Anglo culture or if they were "Eastern" because of their location, or neither. So, hearing you call Australia a "Western country" has piqued my interest almost as much as the sunscreens...almost.😆 Anyway, spending 3 hours going down that Rabbithole on the internet is gonna minimize the dollars I waste on "bargains" today.😆
Kose does pill on my combination skin too (both gel and essence versions)! I tried so many methods but still failed. I really love the blue version tho (not water resistant) but sadly they discontinued the whole line which is very sad because that one is so lightweight and never pills 🥲

I believe the Suncut UV Perfect Gel version contains lemon extract. Do you believe this is a safe sunscreen ingredient when it may cause photosensitivity?
quick multi part question, pls:
do chemical sunscreen compounds lose efficacy over time after application, because they absorb the UV, there by going through a chemical reaction (covalent)?
is sweating the only way to reduce sunscreen efficacy? if a person doesn't sweat is reapplication every 80 mins necessary?
lastly, how does one suppose to deal w sunscreen if it needs reapplication every 80 mins, while one's wearing makeup...
Love your videos and blog!
Kisses from Brazil 🥰🥰😘😘
I'm not against pump w/tube, but it's a PIA when get air, instead of product coming out.
Can you please review the cosrx sunscreen? Thank you love your work it's amazing
Is the skin 1004 one water resistant? I'm not seeing a lot of clear information online.
thank you so much for such a thorough review! i'm buying through stylevana with their black friday sales and am definitely going to pick up the SKIN1004 sunscreen.
may i ask what you think about the ATOPALM MLE cream after using it? i have bought the Lagom cream based on your rec before and really liked it. i'm considering the Atopalm cream now for the winter. thank you!
Can you please review Sunseal by Microskin? It seems incredible to me that a sunscreen would last 72 hours.
can i use boj spf with skin1004 products ( foam, moisturiser toner & serum ) ?
i have a very sensitive skin and afraid of irritation
Thanks for your reviews! Are you able to review the fad of people using zinc directly on their face as sun protection? zinc as in diaper rash zinc....
@@ritagagliano221 yes, if you’re not a cricketer, it’s a funny look to wear😁
Every Korean sunscreen I've tried has been a complete fail. Either because it leaves a crazy white cast or it makes me look like a grease ball... I had to give away my Glow Recipe - greasy and pilling.
I love a Japanese one though! Senka UV Milk. Silky feeling on the skin.
Finally, someone is speaking about the pilling from The KOSÉ sunscreen 😭🫶🏻
Michelle is the Skin1004 water fit water resistant? Cheers
Nope, unfortunately it's rare for a sunscreen that light to be water resistant! The Kose and Glow Recipe are though
I wish you could review Indonesia products too someday😔☺️
Does the suncut gel version have inferior uv protection compared to your essence one?
may I know why some of the sunscreen will sting eyes?
I loooove Glow Recipe, but their SPF is a huge no for me. No matter how much I used, what I used it with, how I applied it, etc, it pilled every single time, and I have SUPER dry skin with eczema and rosacea, and the GR spf was SO greasy on me🤷♀️
The kose suncut pills up on me as well ☹ I have dry skin!
What’s the deal with blue light? I mean, it’s everywhere, in sunlight, not just from devices. And, they have blue LED devices for acne. I mean honestly, how as a physicist can I take the demonizing of the visible spectrum seriously?
I think I'm allergic to sunscreen. My skin always peels by the end of the day.
I TOO LOVE PUMP TOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skin 1004 makes me look so greasy. For oily skin I don’t recommend at all used it 4 times and hated the look. I looked like I was sweating
Weird the glow recipe pulled. It didn’t pull up on me n I use a lot of stuff on my skin. Weird.
Can you comment on whether or not avobenzone stains hair? It’s been really hard to find an American sunscreen without it unless it’s a mineral sunscreen leaving a white cast.
Are the SKIN1004 sunscreens suitable for dry sensitive skin?
Thanks :)
Thanks Michelle!! You're so 🤣!
The skin1004 spf is too glowy for me unfortunately, it also leaves a slight whitecast
Commenting for the algoooo
Thank you! Much appreciated 🙏
I love a lot of Benton products but I wish they'd calm down with their clean marketing.
👍👍👍
The glow recipe sunscreen pilled so bad no matter what I used or didn't use. The worst sunscreen I've tried so far
My skin bread brings all the boys to the yard
❤👏
uncoupled from your skin HAHAHA
It just leapt off 😓
