Wow. Finally I found a genuinely Credence fan talking about their music in such natural and passionate way. Not just a generic top ten made by a canadian teenager. Feelin' great by this and sending you just the best, from a neighbor in Mexico City. 🎉
Hi Larry. Jinx obviously has "Mardi Gras" hidden away as she was listening to it when you were out and being a cat she forgot to put it back as she needed to nap.
One of the greatest American bands, one of the greatest American composers and singers of rock n roll. My list: 1) COSMO'S FACTORY 2) PENDULUM ( underrated album 3) WILLY AND THE POOR BOYS( very underrated album) 4) GREEN RIVER 5) BAYOU COUNTRY All masterpieces 6) CCR first Very good 7) MARDI GRAS Indifferent ( with 1-2 exceptions) Thanks for your videos Larry!
So far I’m at: 2. CCR 1. Bayou Country Only heard those first two so far cus I wanted to give them time to digest. Excited to hear the rest. I’ve heard all their hits already, plus I LOVE Ramble Tamble
I've always felt that John sort of became another guy after Creedence disbanded. His voice had never been the same as in the CCR era (worse in my opinion, though I know I could never sing like him) and his guitar solos were significantly weaker. Still is and will always be my favorite band, but this feeling has also stayed the same for the past 2 decades since I started loving them.
Willy And The Poor Boys was the first CCR album I ever bought. Therefore it will always remain and be my number 1. Plus it has so many awesome songs it! It may as well have been a greatest hits album! 😊
Really strong debut album. My one problem is that the mix isn’t that great at times. Other than that you can really see the band coming together and working their way towards greatness. As for an idea for another review series, I think The Who would be a great band. Technically they have slightly over 10 albums, but it’s something to consider.
I remember hearing CCR so much on CJBQ around 1971. I'd made a crystal radio and would listen with an earphone every night when i went to bed. Back then, the station was top 40.
I only heard Susie Q on this album before now so I took a quick listen on Spotify and decided that "Walking on the Water" is my favorite on their debut album
I like the debut, but I don't play it very much. I think the best songs are the covers. The originals are all good, but there were much better songs to come. The "Creedence" sound is already here, but they needed to perfect it. And like you said, the production is an issue. I give this album a "B-". Not bad, but not great.
Great choice to wear a flannel shirt, fits the band. Same as you, really good debut, but man they got a lot better. The boxed set they put out had some early recordings by them. I think they were the Tom Fogerty band at some point, then became The Goliwogs. Kind of like poliwogs, immature but starting to take shape.
Credence Clearwater Revival were a great AM pop band Larry and I feel they would have been even bigger then they were if they had come out a year or two earlier, remember, they came out just when everyone else was going psychedelic so though they were great they seemed a little bit out of date with everything,it's a testament to just how good they were that they were that they were huge anyway. Bob.
They came in at the perfect time - the roots revival. It’s not like they came out in 1967 when everything had to be psychedelic. In fact, if they came out like in 1965 or 1966, they may have never blown up. They would just be another rock band. CCR and The Band had such an immense and understated influence in rock that a lot of artists were beginning to abandon psychedelic. The Stones came out with the ‘back-to-roots’ ‘Beggars Banquet’ and The Beatles’ “White Album” had almost no psychedelia. They were definitely not out of date with what was going on in 1968.
The band started in 1959 as " TOMMY FOGERTY AND THE BLUE VELVETS " my dad, Tom was the leader of the band, lead singer and songwriter.......
That is awesome and yes I know the history of the band as do many others, and your Dad is very respected.

Good luck finding the Mardi Gras CD 🙂
Creedence cover of the screaming jay Hawkins I put a spell on you, might be one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
Willy And The Poor Boys was the first CCR album I ever bought. Therefore it will always remain and be my number 1. Plus it has so many awesome songs it! It may as well have been a greatest hits album! 😊
I love Suzie Q, good but not great first album
An amazing output of albums in a really short time frame, another if only.....
Nice review as usual

Such a good band and Fogerty’s soulful voice hits me every time.

CCR, I like them as much as The Doors, and both of them are my favorite american groups ever. It's just damn great

You mean John Fogerty band 😁😁😁
