My name is Eric and I own and run a full service niche market salvage operation in Saint Louis, MO. Part of our model is buying blown up and core engines and tearing them down to sell the parts. I rarely get a story with these engines, mileage and history are usually completely unknown.
This engine came in just as you see it, completely dressed. I knew from the beginning this engine had a major issue and was non rebuildable. I had no idea it would be this bad. These are pretty solid engines but people will always find a way to destroy anything. This is an Iron block 58x Gen4 LS architecture engine, LY6 RPO Code. Its a 6.0L, with rectangle port heads. This engine comes in 2007+ GMT900 full size trucks and suvs , Silverado and Sierra 2500HD, 3500HD. Express and savanna 2500 and 3500 as well.
If you'd like to buy parts from this engine or others I've torn down, shoot us an email at Importapartsales@gmail.com.
Hope you enjoyed this teardown and thanks for watching!
-Eric
OH, and the reason this engine has a religious problem is that its got a hole in it, its Holy. Now that I'm a dad I can get away with this type of humor.
I'm embarrassed to admit how much I love the sound of your fast-forward impact wrenches.
It makes me think of an old Atari game
Its like a laser pistol
I'm not alone.
It does make a cool sound.
No shame in your ggggaaayyyynnneeess brother
“Some extra crank case ventilation”. Love it! Keep the videos coming!
I think it's got some oil in those metal flakes.
It's Friday night the best thing to watch just came on. And my mrs is kinda eyeing me. What the world could be so interesting to him. Maybe she will come back in the room wearing a LS intake manifold?
I honestly look forward to seeing the notification symbol for your tear downs. I have a great amount of respect for your talent and knowledge. I also really appreciate not having some cheap background music. Lastly, a lot of people doing videos about cars act like they invented the automobile. You are humble and not afraid to say “I don’t know “. You have the complete package. Thank you sir. Peace
This channel is simply "Automotive Gold". Thank You Eric and please, don't change a single thing. This channel is as PERFECT as it gets IMHO. Fred
This needs to be renamed CSI: engine.
Except there’s no bodily fluids only long oil change intervals.
Someone should forge knives from your carnage parts. Please and thank you
This channel is going places. Something mesmerizing about taking apart blown up engines
Apparently that $20 oil change special didn't include the oil
What brand gloves do you wear? They seem to hold up really well.
they look like the nitrile ones i get at harbor freight but you can get nitrile anywhere. don't get the 1 mil, those tear quickly and are not for working on cars. 2 mil is good, you could use them for a few jobs. but i get the 3 mil. i can reuse them over and over many times before they eventually tear. im sure some ppl dont reuse gloves but to me thats really just wasteful especially when you can reuse them so many times without issue.
Bet that engine was running just fine on 6 cylinders for a minute! Got pretty lucky on those heads, aside from the cracks.
I have said it before on almost every video, the Sherlock Holmes as to who the murderer of the engine was, is equally interesting to see each time!
If all you did was engine teardowns like this... I would still watch them and be equally entertained, these NEVER gets old, even when you pull apart the LS engine number 5 million, they never die the same way!
Or they may have the same reason, but the failures never look alike.
I concur! I have been a Mechanic for over 35 years now, and this is still fascinating for me. Every day is a school day!
o7 Commander!
Hats off for about the last ten minutes of the video. You didn’t have to tear it all the way down, you already know the rest of the engine is scrap at that point, but you followed thru. Thank you. 👍🏻
This disaster was proceeded by someone saying hold my beer
HAHALOL
please give us a tour of your yard!!! Please
This is literally my favorite RUclips channel, its just cool taking engines apart and seeing how different manufacturers build engines differently
I really wish we had a video of what each engine sounded like when it grenaded. Would love to hear what this one sounded like.
Even if the few fighting for an audio sample into how each engine sounded like before it came apart when the few wonder of how a LY6 sounded like before it grenaded.
Here you go ruclips.net/video/sB7CxaTrY9s/видео.html
😁👍 Always look forward to one of these videos.
I feel I need to visit this guy's shop to see all the twisted metal he's got on display, lol.
At times, I think his video is more educational than the engine build videos. I don't think I've seen a engine that sucked water torn down before...
I love my adjustable rods they work great but I can’t figure out how to get them up I think to get them up you need to get a new flux capacitor
Do a 08-20 Toyota Sequoia/tundra just to show how reliable they are please!
@@fbingha1 I sold two 2UZFEs this year so far..
I love watching the carnage! It’s like watching Richard on Precision Transmission tear down blown transmissions to see what failed.
@3:47 - I clearly laughed out loud. - After rewinding - I REALLY laughed after the "Religious Problem" (Holy) Dude, you're really funny with great delivery.
when "ugga-dugga" turns into "pew! pew!"
Love these videos, excellent insights into how/why engines fail. I always wait with anticipation to see what’s in the oil pan..praying for raining parts.
With the many engines that come through the shop almost complete even down to an oil pan as of an autopsy into why the engine failed holds clues when of the so called "non rebuildable cores" with bay windows punched through the block.
3:45 O_o
It _didn't_ pee all over you? Gotta be some sort of record!
I'm going to buy an impact wrench even though I have zero use for it.
Its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it
After watching all these videos I’ll be able to have enough knowledge to rebuild my trucks motor keep it with more videos man
I saw that Honda J series v6 in the background are we getting a video of it?
How to turn v8 into v6. It's this new fancy technology where some cylinders are being turned off to save fuel.
I do love a teardown video.
So a Chevy DOES blow. I always told my dad that.
I always wondered how the displacement on demand worked! Just hit a puddle and deactivate cylinders 7 and 8. Keep the educational content coming.
The HydroLok feature costs extra, but your new V6 works well for daily driving.😏
Overwhelming percentage of failures seem to occur in the rear cylinders. Is this an oiling problem, a torque issue, or ???
I enjoy watching this videos with Adam Sandler tearing down this engines!! 😂
I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees the resemblance.
wait for the go get into your HOLE
I'd love to see a ford 2.0 ecoboost if you ever find one sir... I have one and I'd love to see the internals and their weak points
I've seen a crank broken like that after a buddy of mine was hard excellerating and all of a sudden he hydroplaned the rear tires. W all the load on the engine and then hydroplane the engine went WAY past its ability to stay together. He even drove it onto the lift. Got the pan down and crank broken in half just like that. Felt bad for him but still cool to see.
I'm from Sydney, Australia and I blew a highly worked 6 cylinder GM Holden "red motor" in the same way. I was running triple 45mm weber carbs and a huge solid lifter cam in a 186 cube engine. These are a very old motor (based on the side plate Chev inline 6 from the 40s) designed to redline at about 4,000rpm, and have quite poor balance.
Well, when I hit the water mine sent the tacho almost back to zero again... for a few moments at least.
If this were an engine planned for reuse it helps to take the intake off upside down so that debris doesn’t fall into the intake ports.
love the diagnosis, thanks for making these!
They could of been out mud boggin and got in a little deep and kaboom!! Good Show!!!
Idk about this guy, everything on this engine looked spec to me.
Great videos. Fast fwd in the right places, good narration, no music, can't think of anything to critique. Good stuff.
First?!
"its raining rods, hallelujah! its raining rods, hallelujah!"
I know somebody in a crew cab chevy had a truck load of the boys and preceded to go thru the hole we all know he shouldn't have tried and here's why 😂
Who would’ve guess thousands of us would sit on our butts and watch you take apart engines? Better than prime time TV. 😄
your channel is the best! I have never torn down an engine, nor rebuild one, but watching your videos are highly informative, and super fun to watch! Keep it up!
when my van's original engine fails, I will ship it your way for a decent price. its a gen3 5.3l LMF. Its also currently at 451000 miles, does not burn or lose oil, and has great oil pressure still. might be a few more 4l60E's before it finally dies.
Those things are bulletproof
Chevy's new telescoping con rods were not the success they'd hoped for.
I really wish I’d seen your videos before I ordered a lot of parts for my boosted 6.0 build lol
The Sherlock Holmes of engine block tear downs.
I think this is the only wrist pin I've seen broken on your channel so far.
Great detective work! Awesome channel...👍
You must get a kick out of buying the worst/cheapest engine you can find. Knowing the one that sold it to you knows it's completely trashed and not worth more than scrap thinking I can't believe I found a (sucker) buyer for this engine. Not knowing that the buyer is about to make way more $ off a teardown carnage video than the engine will ever be worth in parts. Keep em coming. More destruction the better.
I kinda do, it is pretty hard to track down unique engines though.
Really love watching your videos! Not only are we able watch the engine breakdowns but listen to your amusing comments along the way. Thank you!
Wow!! People!! Change your oil in your Car
“Adjustable rod.” :-)
You sorta look like adam Sandler
Is your friend an Erich, or is he an Arrick? Either way, he should feel bad.
Maybe an Erik?
@@xRepoUKx yes, also a shameful misspelling.
I am wondering about what type of oil and what changing interval was used, for this engine before it blew up.
Another testament to how tuf the rods and pistons actually are. No rod yet invented would survive this Hydro lock event. Lack of maintence on top of hard use didn't help. Change your oil every 3-4k
Only 2 questions... How many miles had that engine? And what kind of abuse? 🤔
The Sherlock Holmes of destroyed engines!
Another fun and educational junk engine tear down. Rapidly becoming my favorite style of video. Thanks for the vid and keep em coming.
Very interesting how you figured it out!
could call this a mega block V6, the noises this made mustve been amazing
Great stuff keep em coming, would enjoy some occasional smaller engine teardowns too! or an s-type 4.2.
Gotta love engines that DIY their crank case inspection ports.
Also Bluetooth connecting rods are the latest in engine tech. Get with the times bro.
Very interesting and knowledgeable guy. Makes the video much more enjoyable
I love this stuff!!...I appreciate you man!!😊👍👍😁😎
Moral of the story: Don’t Dukes of Hazzard your LS motor through the deep end of the swamp. I will make note to avoid that.😂😃👍🇺🇸🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
I like to watch these then google all the things you say if I've never heard of it.
I'm really enjoying your videos and the best part... the analysis of the engine failure!
Your narrative is awesome...ty
Must be that new LS V8 that transforms into a v6. Lol.
It's always fun (for us) to see engines that look like they lost a fight with a frag grenade
Great video but I truly apologize Adam Sandler might be your father 😮😂😂
I had a Citroen Berlingo van 😶 with an adjustable rod!! It adjusted out the block 🤨 punching the starter motor off!!!! GAME OVER.
Always ALWAYS use an 800lb plus impact gun when tightening up your mains! You want to make sure to NEVER tighten anything on an engine equally or evenly try to tighten say the head bolts like 2 at 457ft lbs then 3 at 29ft lbs and the rest FCK it don't even bother! Never use assembly lube and make sure you clean up your cylinders with nothing less than 36 grit Emery paper. Use a steel framing hammer or sledge to mash in or out anything you really need. And as a secret way to make A LOT more power you should re-arrange the firing order aswell as stuff a couple ports on the intake manifold with some loose fitting steel wool.
I'm happy I could help you up your game so tremendously, and you're welcome for all the power gain secrets
So what is it about getting water sucked into these engines? Are they coming from flood areas? Broke crank was a defect. X15 Cummins from our Kenworth with only 24,000 miles broke in half the crank.
Cool I didn't know you could use your pan for storage.
Hey, just wondering, but are these heads really “cracked” in the sense that they’re not useable? The 5.9 magnums ate almost sheets “cracked”, but like Uncle Tony’s garage states - that’s normal & they literally run like nothing is wrong. You usually don’t even know about them until you tear the block down.
What exactly does D.O.D. mean? Call me a novice but I think of department of defense lol. But somehow, I don't think that's what it means.
Please please please tear down that ram eco-diesel! Can't wait to see what's inside!
Soon!
Driver probably drove his truck through deep water like a river or wash, and the intake sucked in water and hydrolocked the engine. A buddy of mine did this to his older Chevy 1500 with a 350 engine. He bent nearly all of the connecting rods. The rods looked like bananas 🍌
I just did this to my 01 GMC 3/4 ton LQ4, luckily the block stayed in tacked it shot holes in both sides of the oil pan. Rpms jumped when it went into passing gear and she flew apart
You need a bigger hammer for that last piston.
My boss had to put a new 6.0 in his 03 2500 because the liquid deicer new England uses rotter the block. Engine looked like it was raised from the titanic.
It seems that GM iron castings became garbage just after 95, starting with the Vortec heads.
I sir would not like to buy any parts off that engine. I do however own a truck with an lq4 6.0 that I would love to toy with when I retire it. I do at the moment have a retired 4.8 from an 02 1500 Silverado. Should I mess with it?
I really dislike working on vehicles but for some reason I find these engine "autopsies" strangely fascinating.
I wonder how many miles on this engine. The varnish looks like chocolate. Epic destruction.
After opening the water pump.....
And the inside is completely dry
My guess, given how bone dry the engine is for coolant and new push rods, someone had it apart and didn't fill it. Cooked and locked up. Boom!
Looked like someone did a shitty job porting those 823's those exhaust ports look like amature hogged them round should be D shaped made a rookie mistake lowering the floor probably killed his torque and why it hydrolocked the motor from over ported a runner
Now I'm interested in how people end up sucking in water. I'm guessing this wasn't a puddle situation and was instead deep water. Maybe a boat launch gone wrong? Who has done this and how?
Skip to 18:54 to hear Minecraft villager sounds.
eie wonder what the Department of Defencé
using this enginn inn, Mabey Jeep ¿¿¿
Usually you remove the spark plugs. But, not this time. Why?
Hi guys! please tell me the numbering of cylinders on LQ4
2 valves per cylinder, how quaint.
