  • Philadelphia State Hospital (Byberry).
Partial Walkthrough of tunnels (catacombs), buildings and grounds. Filmed in 1994. Old Byberrians and Urban Explorers will take notice of the condition prior to the scavaging that took place. You will notice the doors on the morgue freezers, the concrete slabs still on the roofs, the log in book and gifts at the crossroads, the minimal graffitti on the walls, and the general condition of the hospital. The whole complex has since been demolished, starting in 2006.
    Long Live Byberry

I grew up just blocks from Byberry. During the summers in the late 70s when I was a teenager, my friends and I used to go exploring in the abandoned buildings on the Parkwood side of Roosevelt Boulevard. I even used to go bike riding back there in the late 70s. The buildings on the other side were still open with patients living there. We saw the padded rooms, dormitories, nurse's stations and explored the underground tunnels. I can tell you there was nothing supernatural there; just a bunch of dilapidated buildings. The only scary thing as we learned a few years later was all the asbestos that was in there. I had older friends who had worked there and I even worked in recreation therapy there a few years later when I was a little older. Just like any other mental hospital, it had its problems with many good and a few not so good employees. But sorry to burst anyone's bubble, no ghosts.

The first tunnel off to the right that you didn't know where it went, well it leads to the garages.

the thing that probibly acared me the most was one of those stairwells inside a building had a sign on the gate that had rhe wordssaid "this gate must be locked at all times " written on it and not like a spray paint writing like actual original letters from the sign as in the sign had those words on it when it was first made 😲wow that scared the jabebesus outta me and also we were roaming that place at night which didn't help too much 😡😠😬😣😤😧..!
