I had the missing AirPlay button issue but your trick didn't worked. Here is what I did to solve the problem : I took my remote controller and pressed the setting button (wheel) during 8 seconds > I typed 1105 > pressed enter. Once I was in the menu, I Toggled OFF the "LG Hotel mode setup" and then I was able to connect via Airplay ! Check the video called "Set HDMI1 as Priority on Start Up on LG TV - Hotel Mode Hidden Menu" for the manipulation.
After I held the button in for around 8 seconds, I just pressed the buttons. They won’t show up on the screen. Then a skinny circle appears in the centre of the tv and hotel mode opens up. The toggle icon is at the top of the screen.

1. Turn off airplay from the tv.
2. Turn the tv off.
3. Turn the tv back on.
4. Turn on the airplay again.
This worked for me.
