Excellent report Monica. I subscribed. I especially like how you educate as you give the forecast. We live in a high fire area of Southern Sierra so always hope for wet winters to carry us through fire season. Keeping fingers crossed for this coming week!

Mark Finan (KCRA3) has been describing the incoming low pressure system on Dec 17/18 as a "cutoff low", not an atmospheric river. Care to chime in on that?

Please people take the forecast with a grain of salt because these rain/snow totals and what days they will fall on are still way too inaccurate since they’re way too far out the predictable weather model forecast range, these are just hints the models are giving us to say that we may see more storms late December, but things can still flip around and become dry again!

I’m up in SW Washington….it’s been very wet up here. Almost 11” of rain from Dec. 1st - Dec. 13th. Hopefully we can push it down to you guys.

That Snowpack can change in a few days. Funny how none of the EXPERTS predicted last year’s deluge. We live right beside the steepest river in the Continental us. We had TWO floods last yer. One in January and one in March. The March 10th one prompted a mandatory evacuation order. Somehow certain residents will still decry a drought even if we get another 100 feet of snow.

Can anyone please advise. I’ve planned a trip to fish camp/Yosemite from the 22nd/26th can extend if needed. Driving from LA up through Bakersfield/Fresno then the 41 to Fishcamp . No snow experience, 4wheel drive truck tho with proper tires and chains that I’ve never used. Should I reschedule?

No during El Niño the jetstream stays far up north and we get subtropical jetstream from the Pacific Ocean.
