Another great vid dude. Yer dissection of other drummers techniques is a huge help! You'll end up with a encyclopedia for extreme metal drummers hah!
Very informative. Never have seen the swivel broken down that way.
I've tried this for about a month now. Really such a helpful technique for playing high speed without too much stress on the feet. Love it.
agree 100%
The Drum Technique Academy is worth every bit and is a great community. So much knowledge in one place.
thank you!!
That's an important information about the technic, and how you can do it better, relaxed and without much effort.
Awesome guy and drummer. Looking forward to the next academy vid.
4head
I gotta work on this again. He looks so relaxed going at high tempos. Looks awesome.
Yeah it really does. Wish I could do this.
I think the awesome beard plays a big role on them swivels! Excellent explanation!
I LOVE serious Eugene!
This is awesome...you are the only one doing something like this... I hope this is a success
React to Thomas Haake!
This is super helpful! Thank you both!
Ahhhhj, just what I needed to see. Bravo sir!!!
Eugene is a fucking beast. Love his playing.
PLEASE DO JAMIE SAINT MERAT PLEASE DO JAMIE SAINT MERAT PLEASE DO JAMIE SAINT MERAT
Yesssss, please!!!!!!
I think of it like getting 2 stokes out of 2 motions while normal kick pedals operate on 1 hit for each up + down motion. So for the swivel it's RIGHT (1 stoke) LEFT (1 stroke). Normal it's DOWN UP (1 stroke) DOWN UP again (1 stroke). Swivel is really double the output and less than the full work if you can take down that vertical movement to mostly horizontal as he said.
Awesome video!
Aaaaaand drummers will never stop evolving lol. Great video. ☠️☠️🥁🥁🥁🤘🏻🤘🏻
You should try a technique analysis of lord marco (marco pitruzzella)
Tomorrow
This didn’t age well
@@krdrums00 LMAO
Tche! This video makes me unpack my axis and turn de vdl way back.
Can this be done on iron cobra 200s? Been trying for the past year and I just can’t get it. I just don’t wanna have to buy long boards, though I do want them
I'd imagine it's tougher with a chain versus direct drive but I haven't tried it on chain.
Watching this while waiting for my Demon Drives to arrive. Eugene is an amazing teacher
He really is, from his detail to delivery. He also gives valuable feedback in the program.
Good video!
Beast!
friggin awesome
Don't be fooled by how easily he does it, he does running. A lot of running and fitness. His calf muscles are insane.
Has nothing to do with it. This technique takes advantage of the springs. The first stroke takes some power (or you can 'preload' the tension by starting with the beaters close to the head) but after that it takes very little muscular effort to keep the motion going. The synchronization and allowing a large beater swing are what's hard.
@@AlexAces93 your comment makes no sense
@@AlexAces93 what I'm trying to say is, no matter how good your technique is, you still need strength in your legs which won't come on its on. My point was, Eugene is so effortlessly fast and has insane stamina because he does a lot of fitness, due to which his calf muscles are insane.
It would take a long time to get to Eugene's level is what I'm trying to say.
Now you can't argue with this too.
Does this work just as well on a chain driven pedal? Sick stuff anyways, super excited for this whole project!!!
I want to know that too
it will definitely work. the most important thing is maxing your springs and finding the right spot on the board. of course having direct drives is an advantage but technique is the absolute key to this, not what pedals you have
But dude single chain pedals make this super hard to do 😢
If you practice you can play it on any pedal
What bass drum practice pads are those?
is the swivel motion very hard to control?IM trying to learn quick blasts of hand to foot singles: RKRKRKRK R.....something like that , played as 32nds. Because the kick starts on the second note I'm finding it hard to control my foot When I swivel it , its Slightly easier if I start with my foot and then go to he hand.( I am only learning it though) so I've gone back to my ankle motion and I'm hoping some muscle memory will kick in and ill get some speed
He is a realy machine beats.
What the hell. 😂😂 amazing
I love this video, very interesting!
It's interesting that Eugene calls it pressure swivel while emphasizing that you hardly push down the pedal. :D Anyways, I might be using this exact motion at speeds over 200. It's very helpful, but you indeed lose some power.
I reckon these swivel techniques require triggered bass drums. I do not use triggers but would not get into these techniques until I get my bass drum triggered. Any thoughts?
i think they call it that way because you lean more on the pedals than with convential swivel technique. if you put the vdl so far down, the pedal movement is very small while the beater still travels the same way and you get a lot of spring resistance all the time - microdosing with your bodyweight, the actual hits are controlled by your toes. but during a 16th note singlestroke roll you never really release any pressure, keeping the beaters moving only with the side to side movement. really sick hard to control that shit. XD
Goddamit I though the new video would be a drum teacher react one!!!!!!!!
amazing!! which pedals are these??
I think that pedals are the axis A21
James Payne react, please
glad to see someone mentioned him :)
so the pedal setting should be max spring tension and max beater angle?
If you want to go that fast then these settings can make it way easier...
@@drumtechniqueacademy yeah but with my speed cobra with that setting the pedale feels really heavy to push, it's a problem or i will get used to it?
@@t-r-k7534 there are plenty of drummers swiveling on chain driven pedals with medium and high spring tension. are you looking for an excuse or are you willing to break through that speed barrier? 💪
@@drumtechniqueacademy i will break trough that fucking barrier
T-R-K awesome- do it 💪
How tight the spring should be?
Very tight.
My pedal just stays at the drum. It won't come back. I've tried moving my foot all over the pedal. Is it possible my pedal just won't accomplish this?
What’s making the clicking noise? His Footblasters?
Yes...
Can you react tout The Heaviest Drummer of the Universe aka Mario Duplantier notre trésor national français ?
I would REALLY love to see your reaction to this live performance: ruclips.net/video/KQNHZCmBFnU/видео.html
Subtitles please
Is this better with loose springs or tighter springs? Thanks!

next video Heel Toe
The lamented black axis pedals, good in the daylight, shit on stage
My legs just dont move sideways lol
Nick fucking Barker from Lock Up
Marthyn: why don't you use the swivel technique?
I prefer the regular ankle technique...
I have so many questions and it’s frustrating not be able to have a proper conversation with any of this 2 drummers.
That's why we have weekly fb live sessions at the academy...btw dan presland is going live in 3hrs 💪
Thank you!!!
Broke the fuck outta my tama speed cobra 310 pedals bearings in less than 30 minutes of side to side. Looked it up and im not the only one. Designed to not be able to replace bearings nor should i use a company that makes such a trashy product so i wouldnt replace them every 15 minutes if i could. So since tama scams kids ; what brand is good?
I don't understand the reasoning behind using this technique. Without a trigger the sound is all over the place. How about an example from someone with a steady even sound? Is it even possible?
That's when you look to Derek Roddy.
@@Kyp031 and I know it doesn't mater but it looks horrible or even silly too me
Uhhh he just did it flawlessly, every single hit was on time and audible.. you're just not good at listening bud
@@SifuSteve7 are you a sound engineer or have access to something with a meter? I can also see on the meter output on my sound system that they are not even so nothing to do with my ears. On time yes, but one foot kicks harder than the other.
@Gary White I'm not saying it isn't a fine technique. I was asking a question. And since I have a meter on my audio system I can not only hear the kicks are not even I can also see on the meter that one is louder than the other constantly. And no I have nothing against triggers. Calm down.
Seems uneven?
vertical swivel makes zero sense
Honestly, this was pretty confusing. He should speak in the language he's used to with subtitles so it's not so fucking broken up 😂😂
