As an Irish Catholic revert, I am grateful for Fr. Kilcoyne and Immaculata Productions, amongst other YT channels that are enormously helpful in explaining the vast well of wisdom and grace that I was unaware of as constituting my Christian heritage. These days I speak to many in situations similar to mine and we wonder, 'why weren't we taught this when we were young?!'. Perhaps we didn't have ears to hear it.
I have noticed factional thinking, e.g. the 'Liturgy Wars', and whilst I do find the TLM to be beautiful (and beauty is the principal path that led me back to my faith) I still believe that I must continue to strive to appreciate the importance of the Eucharist in the Novus Ordo. To me, it's all good. I am blessed to be able to be in attendance no matter the Form, and will never run out of things to learn.
All this is to ask, am I being naive to think that Pope Francis is basically trying to herd cats? I understand the furore over the question of ambiguity in Fiducia Supplicans, but paragraph 31 refers to:
*'the invocation of a blessing that descends from God upon those who-recognizing themselves to be destitute and in need of his help-do not claim a legitimation of their own status, but who beg that all that is true, good, and humanly valid in their lives and their relationships be enriched, healed, and elevated by the presence of the Holy Spirit.'*
Does this not open the door for sinners to (ultimately) repent and become reconciled?
As Fr. Brendan says clearly at 17:50 - 'we cannot bless sin and we won't bless sin'.

The way this acts out is that the Alphabet juggernaut starts demanding things of priests that puts them completely on the back foot. Opens a Pandora's box and someone else has to clean it up.

My son and I attended the public launching of The ARC at the Millennium Dome in London in November last year. The ARC is an initiative designed to combat the disintegration of western society and is being led by clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson.
Peterson supports the nuclear family in opposition to the many forces that are eroding it. He highlights the fear that young men and women have about making a life-long commitment to each other. His tough message about leaving behind infantile pleasure-seeking that is causing a crisis between the sexes, and his encouragement to take on the responsibility of bringing children into the world resonates like a voice in the wilderness for our present age.
As a grandfather who is fast approaching the 50th anniversary of marriage, Peterson’s advice rings true. My Catholic faith is and has been a rock, especially under the affliction of dementia that my wife is suffering.
Support for Catholic marriage is one of the most important roles of the Church today. Unfortunately, Rome is preoccupied by many issues of lesser priority. I recommend that Peterson be brought on board to inject some practical sense into the Vatican at this moment.

If you are the one generating the trouble needed for ‘your heart to beat normally’…and if that trouble you are causing is in fact thereby deliberately erroneous, false, gaslighting, misleading, self serving or otherwise ignorant…..
It’s called either evil, or stupid.
The outcome is the same either way.
And at the most charitable it can be put, doing evil so that good may come of it….is prohibited. Aka not Catholic.
So either these men are evil, ignorant or stupid…..
    The options are:
    A. Not Catholic
    B. Should not be in office
    C. Should not be in office
It blindingly obvious that they are simply paving the way for an Anglican style of theology. It’s the heresy of modernism plain as day.
No amount of pontificating will help.

The solution to this all is so very elementary that it is painful for me to even have to point it out...bless them separately. They are not a couple. They are most likely 2 people living in a state of sin. They are not irregular unions. They are 2 people living in a state of sin - not a marriage. How is blessing them together anything but hatred towards their souls.

    • @Kitiwake

God bless you! I knew this in my heart but I did not know how to eloquently explain it and you helped me. I am a veteran, I was a commander, and I learned to be docile and obey, follow the authority and never pretended that my supervisors had to sell orders to me, they just had to TELL. First, not all of us had all the factors that lead to decisions nor perhaps we could understand the ulterior reasons for them.
Jesus loves His Church and he knew how to establish and voiced out who was to lead it. The keys were given to one man, ONLY ONE SET OF KEYS, and chose a temperamental fisherman when others were doctors (Luke), accountants (Matthew) and even apparently better suited. Moreover, not even Paul (who was educated, smart and knew the Scriptures better than the rest) disobeyed Peter in Jerusalem when Peter (who probably did not even know how to read) instructed that circumcision was not mandatory despite it was CLEARLY in the only books and tradition at the moment. Popes have authority and when we think about it we can see how others have changed drastically what was known back then. The Vulgata (translating the Bible to the vulgar language Latin so that people could understand since it was the common and local language). Not having to fast from the night before to receive communion...than later from three hours to just one hour (that was a big deal and pretty scandalous). Purgatory, Immaculate Conception, Indulgences...changes in Liturgy, so over and over we see how the Church is the Administrator of redemption and the Pope is at the helm.
Yet, some people confuse piety with Faith...and others confuse Nostalgia with Tradition. They live a Catholicism that is tailored to their own personality, a vanilla ice cream kind of people who simply like to structure themselves to their own character and discard other flavors forgetting the Church is universal and the Vatican has to allow for many in different cultures and global reach. Vatican is the balance.

The Mass. Done properly, is 70% of Catholicism.
"We're trying" (the priests) resonates. I see most priests really are trying but the Mass is uncompelling, awkward, and usually has the opposite effect to that intended. It doesn't feel relevant to people. Doesn't offer that challenge that the young people yearn for. Just ask them.

The same-sex couple ‘blessing’ causes a number of questions.
Why is it couple blessing if “People are blessed; not the union”?
What is a homosexual couple seeking by asking for a blessing?
What is the Church offering in response?
What is the Holy Spirit called for and what is exactly being blessed?
What is a spiritual purpose of such a ‘blessing’ and what sort of a particular help it intends to provide?
Love and acceptance can make miracles of soul transformation, and Pope Francis' vision on the same-sex unions seems to be about love and acceptance. Yet, the same-sex couple blessing would make sense if the Church dumps viewing the same-sex relationship per ser as a sin. Without that, such a 'blessing' appears conflicting and self-contradictory.
The entire issue of the homosexuality as such and the sin does not look straightforward at all.
For example, some people refer to Leviticus 20:13: "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them". Does this mean that about 4% of human population should be now "put to death"? Would it be a proclaimed Christian way of love and acceptance? Would it be compatible with the words of our Lord: "Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast the First Stone" (John 8:7)?
Apostle Paul in 1 Cor 6:9,10 was talking specifically about "men who have sex with men" with the intention to just satisfy their lust, but said nothing about homosexuality as such.
The Holy Scripture condemns sexual lust in all its appearances - ‘traditional’ and ‘pervert’, but says nothing at all specifically about homosexuality and same sex people, who want to live together in love and faith.
Nevertheless, this unlikely defends the incompatibility of the same-sex couple blessing with the current Church doctrines and policies.
    Faithfully yours,
    bishop Vincent Berg.

I've read and found reasonable the idea that I am to take any papal teaching in a manner consistent with our infallibly guided history. I get the concern over "couple" but stress that it really is the individuals, not a disordered "union" that is blessed. And I love your characterizations of the pastoral edge tredding character of our pope. And I fully agree that we should go with him in this , perhaps with additional clarity on the "couple" potential ambiguity . Thanks so much for the gifts you share with us.

Maybe he didnt change the teaching technically. But in practice and perception they did. The scandals and division this has caused has been disastrous, there's no way to sugarcoat that fact. Wheres the call for those in mortal sin to repent? Theyre encouraging the irregular couple to remain on the road to hell.

Glad to see you posting content again, Fr. Kilcoyne. Thank you for your unique and tactful take on the Pope, Cdl. Fernandez, and FS. The document's distiction between liturgical vs pastoral/spontaneous blessings seems sophistic to me, but I dont know much at all about liturgics or pastoralogy.

Thank you for clarity, as I for one took what bible says seriously these last three years and have not had relations only in friendship since God called me back. The bible teaches us all we need to know about our faith, we have to open our hearts and be willing to believe. It's difficult yes , it's challenging yes. My father was consistent when he told us what was permissable in the home we got clarity he didn't waiver and so was good role model didn't always appreciate his stance as wanted worldly things but wanted a father and he was that he cared for all our wellbeing. Love is yes when it brings you closer to God but it is also No when it takes you away from God. Thank you father.🙏

Perhaps it's not so much what we way the document will be interpreted but more about what way individual priests will react. Some will be for it,some against.
Like communion in the hand ,when permission was given under certain circumstances it became widely practice through the whole church and is now the norm unfortunately.

We need to Pray for Pope Francis because in my humble opinion by has by His act and/or omission upended 2000 years of Catholic teaching; including the words of the bible
The recent Fiducial Supplicans, which translates to 'a trusted one (The Pope) asking God for a reply to a query raised by his Bishop(S)' has toped out. However, since this declaration the Vatican has quite sensibly rowed back.
The second reading of St Paul to Timothy is quite clear that we must keep what we were taught as a child and most importantly that we as catholics have a duty to refute falsehoods and correct errors.
The Catholic Church cannot follow every whim of society, it must be strong in its belief as it has been for 2000 years.
God Bless the Clergy who have been compromised in their faith .
Keep up Gods work Brendan and it is good to hear your voice to see you back up and running again
    Sean

The confusion generated is mostly not from the document itself, but from news agency platforms that decided to report on it either without reading it or only to read into it what they wanted. They pointed out one thing while ignoring the other things in the document which preeminently would have answered their concerns. Clarification was good on what was meant by "couple", but most of these places weren't really seeking clarification - which was made obvious by their continually ignoring those clarifications. Instead, they were attacking the document and acting in total defiance to the Vicar of Christ - even accusing him of trying to destroy the deposit of faith (something Christ would never allow him to do of course).
It is perfectly normal for people to seek clarification and to ask questions. But it should be done with fidelity and faith. The problem is that many Catholics are not properly formed and therefore don't understand what protections specifically are there to protect from error the Holy Church. Some traditionalists are so afraid of modernism that they fall victim to it and accuse the living magisterium of either defecting or being capable of defecting. Such a stance and narrative is dangerous because it puts people constantly on the edge of schism, just looking for that perceived final straw to leave. But once gone, a schism is hard to repair. Just ask the Old Catholics and the SSPX.

Priests don't need a new mod encyclical from a new 'woke' Pope to tell them they can bless sinners. It's been standard practice for 2000 years.
By my count the word 'couple' or 'couples' is used 11 times in Fiducia supplicans including in the heading of Part lll: "Blessings of Couples in Irregular Situations and of Couples of the Same Sex"
The "confusion generated" is indeed "from the document itself".

@@Jimboken1 Putting "woke" or other labels in front of the pope to dismiss his authority does nothing to dismiss his authority as he is the Vicar of Christ, but it does show disrespect to our Holy Father. As for what priests need, that is for the magisterium to decide. And in this case they decided it was needed.
I'm glad you can count. However, the number of a word or lack of number is not in question. What is in question is what is meant by the document. Since you read it, you are aware that it says sin cannot be blessed. Therefore, "couple" cannot mean to bless sin. What does it mean? Well the document says that too. The blessing is to lead those individuals who make up a couple into repentance. Perhaps you should read the document without looking for evil but instead to learn something. The magisterium cannot approve anything against faith and morals.
By request of those confused, such as yourself, the magisterium has provided multiple clarifications to reaffirm what the document clearly teaches. And yet people, such as yourself, act like those clarifications have not happened. Regardless, whether by the document itself, or its clarifications accompanying it, the document is perfectly orthodox in its teachings; and, since the Holy Ghost does not permit "confusion" to be taught by the magisterium - as that would be a rupture - it does not do so. We as individuals can be confused by our clouded private judgements, but not the Church. I submit to Rome when it comes to morality. God bless.

@@CatholicK5357 If sin cannot be blessed then why invent a new non-liturgical blessing by a priest who has received the sacrament of Holy Orders?
And why is it all about couples who are not unions but also not really couples because they are individuals who only present themselves as couples to be blessed as individuals while standing before the priest as couples?

    • @CatholicK5357
      @CatholicK5357 15 дней назад

@@Jimboken1 Since you have read the document, you are aware that it gives the reason why a new form of blessing is allowed. In addition to those reasons, German priests were asking Rome what was and was not allowed due to some manipulative bad bishops. Rome responded by making a document. It forbid what was not allowed and showed what was allowed. This empowered the priests against some of the corrupt bishops in question.
Again, since you have read the document, you must be aware that it was not "all about couples who are not unions..." Instead, the document was about blessings and the types of them. It was about divorced couples as well.
I find it strange that you are asking questions to me that are answered in the document after saying that you've read it. Likewise, the clarifications, available to the public, reaffirm the answers to these questions.
So assuming that you didn't read it then: my answer is the same. Sin cannot be blessed. People, whether individuals or couples of people, can be blessed. And that blessing can be given for extra graces to help those who, like St Augustine before his conversion, desire wanting to change but at that moment are still enslaved.
The pope has the keys to heaven and earth. If the Holy Ghost led him to provide extra kinds of blessings then that is great and in his right to do. I personally can use all the blessings that I can get, and I certainly don't want to turn those who struggle with this or that away from getting special blessings for conversion. May God grant conversion and grace to all who need it.

@@Jimboken1 The pope's job is to discern what the Church needs. I'm not sure why you think you can judge if the pope needs to create a document or not. Usually, when documents are created there is something that the creators know that we don't. That makes sense considering he is the head of the entire Church on this earth.
I am sorry if you are confused. But it is nothing from the document. Sometimes, I have read the bible and was confused. Instead of approaching it with suspicion, I went to the right places to find out what those passages meant. And I found the right answers. Atheists often approach scripture with an agenda and find error because they are confused. Likewise, if we read a document and are confused for a lack of understanding or because of an agenda, it is our choice to either seek understanding from those God has provided (the magisterium), or else act like Protestants and think we can use private judgement on such things.
As for me and my house, I'll stick with Christ and His Roman Catholic Church.

Father, it is all about union of spirit and matter. Now, sociopathy is caused by the environment; psychpathy is genetic. At some point sociopathy unchecked will become psychopathy. God alone can eradicate and cure psychopathy. It's the task of the Catholic Church to reinstate, reconcile and reincorporate the Protestant Luther. The forbidden fruit tastes sweetest. Divine love alone is the reconciliation of the opposites.

Is the crux of the matter....not the endless interpretation and debate surrounding the validity of the wording of FS...but the resulting effect of this document on priests, the laity and gay couples? What can be seen to be the fruits of this document and other such doc's and debates upon the world? Perhaps this is the only way to measure its worth. However it seems clear that where there is 'confusion' there will be scattered sheep. Whilst everyone is concerned with assuaging gay rights, the righteousness of family life is being further degraded and barely defended. If the fruit of all these 'wordy documents and synodal pathways' (which seem to be designed to make normal lay people feel stupid) is the destruction of true family rights..then we ought not, as lay people, to invest too much time trying to make sense of them.
