Dear Fr, Fr Bourke is a very brave man. The Irish State is in an undeclared war against Our Divine Saviour and His Church. The sooner our Church leaders recognise this fact the better. The minister voted publicly for the slaughter of the unborn therefore if he repented privately he must then publicly declare his opposition to abortion and do all he can to end this slaughter. This is repentance.

You don’t get to make that judgement, I’m afraid. You have no idea about the person’s relationship with God and with his confessor, nor does the priest. There’s a process around this, and the priest ignored it. A decision like this cannot be made by a priest without consultation with his bishop and the hierarchy. The priest is not brave, he is weaponising the Eucharist and trying to act as God in ultimate judgement. That’s extremely grave. The Eucharist is not a reward for do-gooders, we know that the Eucharist can bring us away from sin and protect us from mortal sin the more we receive it. The Eucharist is medicine, love beyond measure, healing, life itself. Christ said forgive sinners seventy times seven. Forgive, forgive, forgive, and bring people to see the error of their ways through love and good example.

Because the public promotion of any Mortal Sin is a grave scandal, it must be publically confessed and also confessed in Confession. When this public sinner came for Holy Communion he had not yet publically admitted his sin that he helped kill the innocent and that in the future he would work only to promote Pro-Life. Also Holy Communion received in Mortal Sin is NOT a blessing for that person as the Scriptures (and exorcists) warns us in 1 Corinthians 11:27-32.

Fr Gabriel did the right thing, and more should follow.
Catholicism is not a part time hobby, not a pick n mix option when it comes to selecting which of God's laws you wish to obey.
As I mentioned myself on a local radio station when we were discussing this subject, if you think you disagree with, or indeed know better than God unrepentantly, then you have no right to demand anything of his Church, and certainly no right to the Eucharist.
The church needs to stand for what it believes in, boldly. There is no ground gained in passivity nor retreat. The true the good and the beautiful doesn't change to accommodate contemporary opinions.
Thanks Fr Brendan for a great video as always.

How can anyone who supports the killing of 1 never mind 40, 000 babies think they can receive the body of Jesus in good conscience. If he knows his faith then he knows he is in Mortal Sin. I dont understand why he needs clarity from the Bishop. If 40,000 babies were killed outside the womb there would be uproar by the people of any country....

@@Kitiwake There are two forms of excommunication, Latae sententiae and ferendae sententiae. The former is an automatic act under certain circumstances and not formally declared or may not even be know by church authorities. The latter is the formal declaration from the church following a process. This decision is not made by a priest. Formal excommunication is actually uncommon and it’s likely that some people have excommunicated themselves via their actions without even being aware and it will never be formalised. None of us knows the state of anyone else’s soul, so it’s certainly not the role of you or I to pass judgement.

If more priests were like him, maybe we lay people would be clearer on the fact that sin exists! Everyone seems to think everything is AOK now - do what you want. The queues for holy communion are long, the queues for confession are non-existant.
I see it as a wonderful grace that God granted that TD. But pride often gets in the way of seeing it as such. After the likes of this, it'll be very hard to appear in front of Our Lord and say 'aw sorry, I didn't know'

Father Burke is absolutely correct to refuse to give Holy Communion to someone who publicly advocated for, and campaigned for, the removal of the constitutional protection of life of the unborn.
There is no public display of repentance / contrition by the politician who publicly advocated and campaigned. Zero evidence of any repentance / contrition.

This incident highlights the fact that our bishops have never made it clear, before, during or after the campaign to remove the protection for the life of the unborn, that those promoting, procuring or voting for abortion are in mortal sin and automatically excommunicated, and remaining in that state and unrepentant, will take them to hell! The bishops, as shepherds of their flocks, have a duty to try and lead souls to heaven by preaching and proclaiming the Gospel, and they will be accountable to the most High God of any failure on their part to do so. God bless Fr. Burke and all those other faithful priests. The proclamation of the Gospel and the issue of mortal sin should never be a matter of semantics.

Public sin that is encouraged and proclaimed publically carries with it a special moral imperative of revealing to the public his change of heart and mind on abortion and tell his reasons, and that he is sorry for his past promotion of abortion and his sincerity of amendment in the future. If I hurt one person, I apologize to that person, if I'm a teacher and have done wrong in the classroom, I apologize to the whole class. If I've done wrong to the public and thus to the common good, I apologize publically. And of course Confession is necessary for all Mortal sins both private and public, before going to Holy Communion. We must pray daily for all public leaders in the Church, government and every sphere of our society.

Fr Brendan, I compliment Fr Burke for his courageous stance on this very serious issue. I was a parishioner of a terrific Fr Hogan, in Multyfarnham, in 2018 when, after the Abortion Referendum, he refused Holy Communion to Robert Troy, a pro-abortion FF politician. After complimenting Fr Hogan on his courageous stance his answered humbly "I did it to save his soul!" Whata a great priest!
But, may I suggest, there's a related more serious issue for our priests and bishops i.e. as guardians of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ which can only be received if recipients are in the state of grace. Our priests and bishops know that it's widespread that people, for example while at funerals or weddings, - including non-Catholics - present for Holy Communion while not being in the state of grace! Are priests and bishops doing anything to address this fundamental tenet of our Faith? At the very least, I would suggest, celebrants should announce before Holy Communion the importance of this condition and, should the state of grace not be present, they present for a Blessing instead of Holy Communion.

The Catholic Church was mainly very quiet on its preaching and teaching at that time..Sadly.....

Much respect to Fr. Bourke a good priest standing up to what is morally , ethically and what is right in the eyes of God .
Thou shalt not kill abortion is murder , it is the ending of the most innocent vulnerable life .
The right to life is a basic fundamental human right .
There are a lot of tourist Catholics who go to Church when they feel like it , they like to sin and live in sin and think the world revolves around them , they think they are so important that the Church and the word of God has to change to facilitate their sin .
Pride comes to mind , thank you for this video I hope more priests get the courage to speak up on this issue .

We live in an age of utter 'relativism' with its total indifference to authority. The question is 'why' any individual would knowingly precipitate such a crisis? Why would any individual with prior indifference to the sanctity of human life want to present for Holy Communion? Is presenting oneself thus not a less-than-passive-act, a further public assertion of the prior indifference but which potentially visits injury to the conscience of many others? Do we want to have the cake of relativism and eat the bread of life? Hardly! If we don't believe in the sanctity of life we probably don't believe in the real presence and view the Church merely as a human institution. In that case why would continue to participate? Is it for mere social gain?

With The Help of God and His Holy Blessed Mother we will be blessed with more priests like this and you.
I have sadly been guilty of receiving Our Blessed Lord in a state of sin and I will be forever grateful that Our Lord Didn't Strike me down dead on the spot because that is what I deserved. I genuinely didn't do it intentionally but now that God Has Set Fire to my heart with love for Him I would rather die than receive Our Lord's Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity with sin on my soul.
There are two options here, either the T.D doesn't understand that receiving Our Lord in mortal sin is drinking hell upon yourself or he doesn't believe in The Real Presence of God in Holy Communion, both are horrific.
This priest has blessed this politician, he would see that if he had an actual faith in Jesus. So the fact that he is going to the Bishop to complain tells us everything we need to know about the character of his heart.
Let us pray for him, Jesus Died for him even though He Knew the sins he would commit, the same as He Gave His Precious Life for all us sinners 🥰 God bless

Here in the US, our former Speaker in the House of Representatives representing San Francisco area in California has supported abortion rights and against any legislative restrictions passed by various states throughout her political career. Her bishop excommunicated her-her bishop. Soon after, she flew over to Rome and received communion from Pope Francis. Our current president goes to communion publicly all the time and again has always voted for abortion rights and against any restrictions. When the earthly head prelate of our Church ignores church teaching, we’re going to have confusion.
