Any body else out there still have the old LP record from the 50's with Alec Wyton playing this on his recording called "The Cathedral Organ"? Btw, Daniel, that was just lovely.

Magnifique ! Merci Daniel, Merci Olivier... Avec ce sublime Banquet, je me revois debout sur le sommet du Mont Beuvray, en train de contempler dans le bas mes pas s'entrecroisant, qui confondus aux Grands cycles des Saisons, m'ont fait rencontrer l'Intemporalité.

The beauty that is the Most Blessed Eucharist not only reflects in the composition but also in the exquisite performance.

A very heartfelt performance. It's amazing how so much dissonance can sound so beautiful and emotionally gripping, especially when you consider the subject of Christ's sacrifice. Messiaen uses one of his trademark effects in this piece, played on the pedals. It is the sound of drops of water, or in this case, drops of Christ's blood. This organ is famous for it's brassy, bombastic sounds, which are fabulous. But it also has these sublime celestial stops, in the form of strings of different qualities( i.e. keen, mild and orchestral), plus soft foundations and a soft flute celeste. Mr. Ficarri brings these wonderful sounds together superbly, and makes this piece all that it can be. Thumbs up!

Indeed. As I mentioned in my analysis above, the sheer beauty and strangely calming nature of this powerful piece hides a difficulty and level of sophistication that at first glance isn't evident.

This performance was the trigger for me to study this music by myself. Very and lovely mystic character.

This is an excellent performance. Full of feeling and the tempo is perfect. Also, he is really following Messiaen's direction in the pedal part - "like drops of water"

Merveilleuse interprétation. Le Banquet Céleste nous rappelle le jour où nous sommes nés, et le jour où nous mourrons Ce jour où nous devrons Lui rendre compte de ce que nous avons fait de notre vie ici-bas.

Just beautiful! We're used to hearing the powerful State Trumpets from this organ. It's nice to hear its warmer string section too, so nicely displayed in this piece.

I think the video, at least of the pedal board are reversed. Feet moving to the right on a pedalboard is going up the scale.

Not the good registration, too loud, O.M ask more smoothie and mysterious

    • @EwicoCylinder

Messiaen asks for the registration of: 4'; 2' 2/3; 2', 1' on a manual coupled directly to the pedal (yes pedal no register except for the end last note) and that is quiet loud of course those are flute stops (except for the 2' doublette) imagine principals one's.
