Organist Daniel Ficarri performs Olivier Messiaen's Apparition de l'église éternelle (Apparition of the eternal church). The piece is recorded on a Walker Technical organ installed in the space while the Cathedral's Aeolian-Skinner is being cleaned after a minor fire in 2019.

I am ,quickly becoming a ardent fan of The Music of Messiaen. His music sounds best in spaces,like St John the Divine, in NYC,because this Cathedral is acoustically alive.
I love how the dissonance and progressions keep concluding on perfect fifths and fourths! The timing is fantastic! What a treat to hear it live! Thank you, Daniel!!!

How long are you at St. John the Divine? I hope long enough to play the Great organ! - WAIT - I just did a little homework, and you're the ASSOCIATE ORGANIST there. Congratulations!! You will get to play the Great Organ =)

@@DanielFicarri when will the A-S be brought back into service? Hopefully this time the old Skinner 32ft Ophicleide will be reconnected again.

@@DanielFicarri has its removal commenced? I suggest that the Walker toaster should be retained for use at the west end... it sounds magnificent and has filled the nave in a way I suspect (never having been there myself) the A-S never could.
