Hey guys! In this video I go over the RED Raptor from Jurassic Park 3 that we never got to see! This was an early practical effect (animatronic?) that Stan Winston made for JP3 that went unused in the final film. In my opinion it looks pretty cool! Now the JP3 raptors ended up looking very different ("ALAN!") but they still brought some cool stuff to the table. Honestly I think I prefer this design to the females that we see in the film, but I kinda like the quilled males a bit more. Anyways I give a little Jurassic Park Film Theory towards the end that involves the video game Jurassic Park 3 Island Attack...hope you all enjoy! :D

Mmmmhhhh tiger raptors, my favourite design! Though for story purposes, the male and female variants for JP3 do suit the film that we got.

In all honesty, i kinda wish they did use this red raptor variant in Jp3, there's just something about it that i like, i do still like the Jp3 raptor design we did get to see in the film, but not as much
The Tiger colored raptors reflected the enviorment they hunted in. It would make sense that the red raptors would be a variant of the tiger colored ones that hid in long grass. The Raptors from JP3 were those that hunted in the wooded areas of the island so they had a different color scheme. Or.. They were a entierly different breed of raptor.

@Red Raptor they do a bit but the deinonychuc does have that large crest through.

This red velociraptor reminds me a lot of the Deinonychus animatronic from the old Dinamations Dinosaurs Alive shows.

hey! someone besides me knows about Raptor Red! lol And yeah, the book came out in 1995. And Bakker was a consultant for the Jurassic Park movie.

I like these red raptors designs, but the raptors we got in the final film are cool too. I like the final designs because they fit in with jp3’s wacky dinosaur designs in general for the movie (which isn’t bad) and helps build a little bit more background with what was going on at site b before Jurassic world, with possible hybrid testing and different variations of different dinosaurs. I could even go on a limb and hypothesize that these jp3 raptors were supposed test subjects for the IBRIS project, hence why delta and echo have small crests in front of their eyes not dissimilar of jp3’s raptors and blue having striping like the males. Just a thought, though it’s possible I’m overthinking it, as it could just be a small callback like the rest of the nods the film has had to previous Jurassic Park movies. Anyway nice vid man👌

I love Dinosaurs and Cats myself. The Rex, Dilophosaurus, and the Raptors kind of remind me of big reptilian-avian cats.
The reason they went with the variant they did is because they wanted to incorporate the newest raptor discoveries. That pronounced crest on the top of the snout was just one of the newest discoveries. The second was the discovery of feathers. They didn’t want to completely cover their raptors in feathers, so as not to receive too much flak from movie fans that it strayed way too far from the featherless varieties in the first two films, but they also didn’t want to get too much flak from the scientific fans who were looking for scientific accuracy. So they split the difference by adding the feathered frill on the heads of the males. The third new discovery (if you can call it that) they incorporated into the film was the theory that raptors communicated with each other through vocalization. They explain all of this on the Making of Jurassic Park III videos on the DVD. I’m surprised you didn’t know it.
I loved the color scheme. When it comes to choosing a favorite, it's tough, which is why I think I'd prefer a mix between what we got and the (all but) scrapped red design.

Raptor Red is a book by paleontologist Robert T. Bakker, who was a consultant for Jurassic Park. Just a little FYI. :)
I really love this design, and to an extent it reminds me of the Lost World raptors. The featureless green eyes give it a haunting feel to it, like it can see into your soul.
This raptor reminds me of the big red one that was in trespasser I find this interesting because the raptors in Lost world where my favorite and this one looks very similar to it.

The red one looks cool but the quilled raptors were by far the best version. However you could argue that Darwin's theory on divergent evolution was at play on the island with one species of becomes many over time. Given that their generic make is so varied, them breeding with each other could have lead to many different versions despite the scientists making raptors from different base Gene sets.
I love this design! Ive always liked the concept of different raptor tribes on the island, with the red / tiger raptors being more aggressive and menacing while the blue/ white raptor tribe being more intelligent/ strategic. I think this was just meant to be the tiger raptors from TLW.

I love the white Velociraptor. As a kid, I remember having the Grant motorcycle/raptor playset, which always looked so cool.

I think the red raptor may be a nod to Raptor red, the book that actually references JP when they found Utah Raptor and said "they found Spielberg's giant raptors"... But hollywood being hollywood they would NOT give credit

Very cool bit of info. I'll admit, I think the red raptor is a lot better than the ones that ended up in III. I don't dislike them, just like that initial design better because it keeps continuity with the previous films.
I prefer what we got in JP3 for the Raptors. But bringing back that red design for some new Velociraptor Individuals in JW3 would be pretty cool

It would have been nice or certainly interesting to retain the original shape and stripe pattern of the Velociraptor design, but I do like and admire the new direction in the film. The bird qualities and even the color schemes made them look more realistic in my opinion, especially the eyes and how their tails posture more upwards when in motion.

It kinda reminds me of the red Alpha Raptor Reakattak toy they released for JP3, perhaps it was combined with the final design for said purpose.
I just got a Jurassic Park welcome mat for the front door of my house... I was laughing so hard at the joke in the store before I got it.
I prefer the ones we got in the final cut they Red ones look cool and resemble the ones from LW but the aesthetic for the Final Designs are my cup of tea

This red raptor reminds me of the novel raptors ( i know that they are yellow in color, with brown stripes) but somehow it still reminds me of the novels. Maybe in the lost world novel velociraptors were described as red ? I can't remember

I’m a fan of all the designs for the raptors. The JP3 ones are included because of their pack like behaviour and the series of sounds they have that mean different things. It has been confirmed that raptors did have quill like feathers which are visible with the males in the film, of course they’re trying to look fancy because just like with modern day lions, the females were the boss. There was only one female seen in JP3 and it was clear that the males were competing for the title of “dad” to her offspring
I bet "Raptor Red" was going to be the alpha or beta raptor of the TLW tribe ( Tiger Striped Raptors) and he/she would've fought for dominance over the JP /// raptor tribe. Really interesting if you think about it

Well, at least we got to see the red raptor in "Jurassic Park: Island Attack" GBA. It's an old game, but it's awesome.
I like the designs we ended up with, very unique from the other films.
I think this raptor is a rehash of the Lost World raptor but with green eyes and slighly modified colouring in the skin considering they recycled the R-rex animatronic and simply repainted it, and considering the script was re-done mid production, my guess is they were going to originally go with these raptors, but then they decided they didn't have enough "new" in the film, so they made all new raptors to keep the excitement level raising.
Possibly a placeholder skin as they tested out animatronics, or tested new mechanics while working on the final design of the raptors, and the skin and eyes were parts of a test as they worked on new designs.
Possibly intended for early promo photos or toy box designs
I really like the eye colouring, but it's very out of place for the rest of the colouring. I'd love to see something like these on a darker, even black raptor, and not talking about the indoraptor
OMG ISLAND ATTACK. THAT GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD.
Maybe they wanted a more "realistic" take on the JP3 raptors, since the red raptors design was already considered obsolete by then, nonetheless it be awesome if this creature was featured in the film, imagine like, showing the different tribes of raptors across the island, maybe have kind of a feud between them, but oh well, I guess we have to deal with ceratosaurus poop instead (even though I actually like the scene). Great video!
To my knowledge, the first time I ever noticed a red raptor in anything Jurassic Park was in Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition (circa 1994) for Sega Genesis. It appears as sort of a final boss if you play as the raptor. (Grant's final boss was escaping the T. Rex in a raft.)

I prefer the red raptor designs as it's very accurate to the first two designs. If I could time travel I go back and fix all the problems with the production of JP3.
I think this raptor would be an interesting addition to any Jurassic Park media, like if the campers did end up on Sorna i reckon a new raptor tribe inspired by this red tiger strip would have been awesome and nod to the abandoned red raptor concept

I've never been a fan of JP3. Even though I own it on VHS, DVD and now Blu-ray. However I have always loved the design of the Raptors in that movie. I felt the Raptors never looked more Bad Ass!
The dark eyes make it super creepy to me. Then again, being able to see the sharp little pupils in the yellow eyes is also creepy. Is that just me??

Would've loved to have seen those red raptors way more than the ones used in JP3. The classic raptor design from JP is still my favorite but the ones from LW are a very close 2nd.
JP3 has the best raptors, by far. Not only in their design, but in their behavior as well.
