In September 2024, I spent a week traveling across Ukraine with my wife Deanna. We started in Lviv, then went onwards to Kyiv, and finally to the frontlines in Kharkiv. For the past 6 months, my team and I have worked tirelessly to create this hour-long documentary about the human impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Our goal was to document life on the ground, meet with local people, and let their voices be heard.
Huge thank you to Markiyan for taking me around Ukraine. This trip could not have happened without his guidance and hospitality. Follow Markiyan on IG here: / markiianivan
If you'd like to donate to help Ukraine and those in need, here are a few trusted sources:
u24.gov.ua/about: Launched by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, this has been the main venue for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine. The funds go towards Defence, Humanitarian Demining and/or Medical Aid.
savelife.in.ua... Launched in 2014, Come Back Alive became the most prominent organization providing support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The fund’s mission is limited to supplying technology, training, and accouterments to help save the lives of Ukrainians.
saved.foundation: This foundation aims to restore access to education in Ukrainian communities that suffered from the war. They provide children with the necessary tools and resources to study and explore new ideas.

Not a day goes by where I don’t think about my amazing trip to Ukraine and all of the incredible people I met. Their strength, resilience, and kindness left a lasting impression on me. This video shares a glimpse of their stories and the realities of life in Ukraine during this war. Ukrainians are the fake form of Christian orthodoxy I have ever seen in my life these guys move from country to country as refugees and treat people like flaming garbage
I am absolutely amazed by the resilience of the Ukranian people. I try and follow the war from the news and had a very different picture of Ukraine....until now. What a beautiful country! I pray that this truly unnecessary war ends soon! I wish all the best for the Ukrainian people for whom I am now a huge admirer. Stay strong. Our prayers are with you. With love from the bottom of the globe in South Africa
Thank you, friend!
Never forget to condemn Ruzzia. It was who brought this horror and death to Ukraine. I know many people from the Global South who justify Ruzzia only because they hate the USA, but when I tell them that there can be several bad men in the room at the same time, wow, it changes their perception. In this war, Ruzzia is an invader, an occupier, an absolute barbarian, while the USA is its guarantor. Yes, the USA is the guarantor of the Ruzzian invasion, destruction, military terrorism and partial occupation of Ukraine. The USA and other signatories of the Budapest Memorandum on the Nuclear Disarmament of Ukraine allowed Ruzzia to do all this, instead of ensuring Ukraine's security. This is the real truth.

This video deserves more views. To be honest, I never liked Drew in the past. I thought he was just a native young kid going to every country just to say he did. But if this video is the new Drew Binsky, then I'm a Drew Binsky Fan, dinner and drinks are on me if we're ever in the same city. I also really appreciated the emotional side of Deanna, her reactions added the needed human element to this what I would consider a documentary.
Thank you for showing the complicated life in Ukraine during war. If you were to ask me what I'd want the world to know, I'd say: It's not possible to understand what living during wartimes is like, and I sincerely hope no one needs to find out first hand. Life in Ukraine is complicated, but what's not is the fact that Russia invaded, and could have called it off any day they wanted to. Supporting Ukraine is supporting freedom from tyranny and is stopping future wars.

Well said JohnnyFD, when are you going back to Ukraine? Really like your video's too!

What about all the civilians that Ukraine has killed in the east that provoked Russia to move in and save its ethnic Russian population from total annihilation, Ukraine is not the sait and victim the world makes it 2 be, politicians in power have made the people suffer and continue to suffer.
I'm from Kharkiv and had to move out to protect my then 10 month-old child. My parents and in-laws are still there. They don't want to leave their homes. Every morning starts with a chat where all of our family has to write "good morning" so that everyone knows that we all are ok. In your video I saw the streets where I used to drive to work, the cafe we used to go to with my colleagues, that big shopping mall where we used to buy staff for our house, my husband's office that was also demolished. It made me cry so hard. And I'm thankful to you for this, because I was holding this im myself for a long time and now I'm crying and it feels better. Thank you so much. Thank you for telling our story. I hope soon this terrible war finishes and you come to make a video about wonderful peaceful Ukraine. And I will be able to welcome you and your wonderful wife and show you beautiful Ukrainian villages, bike fests and fantastic natural places.

Start to fight stop sitting on RUclips
@@colelankey I absolutely understand your outrage (as any decent human would be outraged at this situation), but your comment of "Start to fight stop sitting on RUclips," is in no way helpful. Many of us all over the world would love to be there on the front lines to help fight in every physical way we can. Unfortunately that is not obtainable for most of us. Most of us don't have the money or capability to be able to make such a move. But we still try to do what we can do such as making donations to real causes that help Ukrainian troops, people like Drew who go and make documentaries on the situation to further get the message out the the world's population about the horrific things going on, and so forth. I don't know what your nationality is, but if you're not from Ukraine, what have YOU done to help? Sometimes, all people have is the care in their hearts and their words to help spread the message of what Ukrainians are currently facing. And even though that may seem insignificant in your eyes, it's better than doing nothing or criticizing other people who ARE doing what they can, regardless of how big or small. You sound very immature and maybe need to get a grasp on the real world and appreciate every effort everyone makes, whether that being a simple "are you okay," donating to Ukraine, or, God willing if they are fortunate enough, joining the front lines.

I'm from Kharkiv. Thank you for coming and showing the picture, it's quite accurate. And it hits more when we observe it from a distance because we are getting used to this. There are a lot of small cities which are closer to the line of the war, which are suffering even more, completely destroyed or highly damaged under everyday shelling, and people still live there. That's heartbreaking.

She fled to west europe and hearing her stories about staying in emergency shelters for months without any certainty of making it out and living safely and happily again and her entire world being flipped upside down always touches me. I want to keep her safe forever
Similar to my girlfriend too. My girlfriend is from Kharkiv and fled in April 2022 to Russia. She’s of mixed Ukrainian Russian heritage and had family in Russia who housed them temporarily. She said that upon arrival, she had to register herself and they tried to confiscate her Ukrainian passport and tried to force Russian citizenship upon her. She also got some harassment from Russian people who were constantly giving her abuse, she got her car vandalised for having Ukrainian plates, got physically assaulted by an older man and got called a nazi which required her to have stitches on her lips. After that her family (4 of them) decided to leave Russia for good. They converted all their money to dollars and drove from Voronezh to Latvia where they stayed for 6 weeks in emergency accommodation. She eventually got asylum status accepted in the UK and all 4 of them live and work in Northern Ireland now. She used to be a secret dual citizen of Ukraine and Russia but now she hates Russia/russians with a passion.

What a joke, taking evelator to bomb shelter and sight seeing like tourists. 🤣😂😆
This video made me weep for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. Thank you for this important documentary and for shining a light on the beautiful and brave people that are enduring this heartbreaking conflict and destruction of their beautiful lands. My great grandfather came to Canada after the First World War and I can’t help but be extremely sad for the family members I’ve never met that are over there. I pray for this war to end and for all of Ukraine to be repaired and restored to her full glory again. May God bless and protect the beautiful people of Ukraine. May they feel peace and security once again. May the children be able to safely play in the streets and at their schools and may the only sound be the sounds of joy and laughter. While this video made me extremely sad to see such destruction, my love for Ukrainians overflows in my heart. Thank you Drew and Deanna for this important work. May you both be blessed and may you continue to shine a light in dark places. Much love from Canada. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your journey through Ukraine. I am an English tutor that works with two Ukrainian children online. I have plans to land in Krakow and take a train into Lviv in July. I am not brave like you, so will not be travelling out of Lviv. However, witnessing your journey and hearing from other travellers, I feel a bit more assured that this memorable trip, to meet an amazing family/country, is possible.
I cried a lot watching this. “War has no winners. Humanity loses” 😭😭😭
Thank you very much Drew for this video and your bravery to come to our country with your wife in such difficult times. Thank you for showing to the whole world what terrible things russia is doing to Ukraine, to our children. Thank you 🇺🇦🇺🇸
Drew, you have a massive platform on social media, and I am so relieved too see you using it responsibly and kindly. As a Ukrainian, I am so so proud of you and thankful that here you are showing an unbiased and curious perspective on my country. Thank you for showing my culture and my homeland to those who might not know Ukraine for anything except for the devastating war that we have been suffering. Going closer to the frontline and reporting from there deserves nothing but respect-this is true journalism. I deeply appreciate everyone's kind commentary as well. Please stay human as you are, and stay safe and healthy. Peace ❤
Thanks for your comment ❤ stay strong
I love Ukraine. Your people are so warm and friendly. I can’t wait to visit again and bring my family when this horrible war is over. Hopefully it’s soon. I have a nice bottle of Ukrainian vodka to celebrate.
I also went to ukrain last month and my heart goes out to all the people of ukrain. You where the best people and strong people I have ever met. I met soldiers but also widows and kids with no parents. People who dont care and people who got taken everything from them. It was a eye opening journey that I wish to maybe do again. Keep safe! Love from belgium!
Drew, I love your videos! I'm having goosebumps because going to watch this video from Kharkiv!
Saying thank you for it before even watching
I'm Ukrainian and I thank you for this video. We're fighting and dying for the whole free world. not only for ourselves. remember that. it can happen anywhere and we also haven't thought it could happen here. until it happened.
You are right, it can happen anywhere.. Soon it will happen in Greenland.. By the way, it has already happened in Gaza and it is 300 times worse than what happened in your country.. Not to mention Donetsk and Lugansk in 2014...
@@dimadima9693 🤣🤣Gaza??????? brother what are u saying??? gaza seen absolutely nothing compared to Ukraine and also wdym Greenland? all that gunna happen to them is its gunna become Freeland Dima im sure your more brighter then this

I'm from Kyiv, thanks for visiting and showing your support!
I'm french, and this is really important to see the true face hidden of the war. Thank you to show it us. All my solidarity to the ukrainian people. And I hope I could visit this country one day and maybe I will live there in the future. Anyways, I am learning ukrainian and I have to say *Слава Україні*
Will you visit when Ukraine loses 20% of its territory?
@
I don’t understand what you mean …
“True face hidden of the war “ ? The wars have always two sides , so without visiting Russia and tell the story from another side - the story wouldn’t be complete.
@@dianakhatypova4096 hello Diana, when I was talking about the “true face hidden of the war”, first of all it was about the Ukrainian’s side and then about the French medias who don’t show the real face. The French medias are racist, fascist, discriminating, extreme right, they say bullshits… You can’t understand this cause you are not French.
And about the Russian’s side it is also complicated nowadays to be informed with the facts for the both sides.
I’m trying to be informed with independents and neutrals sources (like Ukraine: Ukrainska Pravda media and the Moscow Times for the Russia).
And to terminate my answer, I’d like to visit Russia someday, maybe live there, there are so many countries I’d like to live so sorry I can’t go anywhere currently….
@ I live in France currently , in the city of Toulouse. So i abandoned watching your tv here especially BFM which is fulfilled by propaganda in general and always taking the side of Ukraine , well actually I’m not surprised as Europe in general was always against Russia but its already another story… donc voilà . You can visit Russia easily nowadays it’s safe, as well as other countries
this is by far the best video you've made. It is so interesting and important to see content that is so different from the media houses' reports. Many thanks for your work!
Thank you for this Drew….we must protect the Ukraine ❤❤
It's "Ukraine", not " the" Ukraine.
It's not " the UK".
I like how documentry and raw videos is being made by Drew especially on warzone area rather than see the negative media like news
Love your content Drew 👍
Nice one as always Drew. Very sad to see but I appreciate the people there trying to still go about life as normal.
Yes it's a sad reality
I just couldn't turn away let alone quit watching this video that you so rightfully documented of your travel to Ukraine!
Wonderful video and a brave thing to do. Made this old vet cry a bunch. Was worth every drop. We should not ever forget how important peace is and how hard it is to keep.
I am Czech and I visited Ukraine alone in winter last year. I stayed only in the western part, but it was amazing and heartbraking. It was week full of connection, joy, sadness, fun, beauty and more. I really enjoyed your journey, as it really reminded the one I did. We are really feeling the same about Ukraine. And my goal is to comeback there this summer, and maybe reach even Kiyv. Such a great country, slava Ukraine.
Thank you for sharing. Hezky den 🙏🏼
I spent 12 months in Kyiv and surrounding areas. I’d happily go back to Iraq and Afghanistan! The trench to trench and drone warfare is something I’ve never experienced. Much love to Ukraine and those that are there fighting for freedom 💪
❤Incredible report. Thank you for taking so much risk, I was a librarian in England when the Ukrainian war started , and we had students from Ukraine arriving in our college, one of them said to me : " I don't fear anything anymore" That child had crossed on foot part of Ukraine to arrive safely in the UK and seen things they should never had seen. This report really brought home what they described back then. Carry on reporting. Kind regards Nathalie
This was probably one of the best and most emotional videos I've ever seen
Thanks Drew
Thank you for caring, Drew! 🩵💛
This would be a great time for you to to revisit Lebanon, under similar circumstances. Living in this war here in Lebanon, my heart goes out to all Ukrainians, especially those seen in this video because I know exactly what they're going through and hearing them describe experiences so eerily similar to mine on the other side of the planet is what angers me about this world. Let's pray for all wars and suffering to end. Love and Peace to all, from Lebanon ❤🤍💚
I’m going in a few days

@@drewbinsky no way! 😭 I’ve been watching you consistently ever since your last uploads here. Man, how the country had changed since…This might be a stretch but I’d love to show you around or answer some questions or even just point you to places to go to on this trip 🫡
Such a big fan. Keep doing what you’re doing. ❤️
@drewbinsky yes!! ❤
@@drewbinsky thank you Drew, best of luck to you and yours, more importantly, strength to you and yours
So good to bring this more to everyone’s attention
Thank you so much for making this video! There are not a lot of people who has the courage as you and your wife to go into active war zones! My home country of Slovakia has been in political turmoil lately because of this war and I wish each and every of one them would watch your video to understand little bit more. I am looking forward to your next video
Спасибо Маркияну за то, что он нам столько всего рассказал!
Огромная поддержка из Вильнюса, Литва 💪🏻

This is the best reportage on Ukraine I've ever seen. Thank you.
First video I've seen of yours.
Thank you 🙏
Love to Ukraine, Ukrainian people and especially the defenders of Ukraine 💙💛
Thank you for this moving documentary. Your videos have become so deep and insightful. I love that Deanna is playing a more prominent role in them, too.
This is so heartbreaking theses people have been through so much that interview with that young lady really touches my heart they are such a brave people !!! God saves Ukraine 🇺🇦
God bless the strength of these people. Thank you for getting this out to the world. Great job Drew.
The photos of those who have passed made me cry 😓😢
More then 1.000.000, you know last 3 months how manny Ukraine deserted and got POW? 250.000!

Been watching your content for 3 years and I just love every bit of it. you've inspired me. I view the world differently because of you. Thank you!
As a Ukrainian born American 🇺🇦🇺🇸, thank you for sharing these stories with the world. I have such fond memories of my childhood in Ukraine and it’s a shame that I haven’t been able to go back in over 10 years now. I want to show my soon to be wife and my future kids the beauty of Ukraine and the place of my birth. My heart aches for my people, hopefully this stupid war will be over soon. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
Thank you Drew for 5his volg on the Ukraine. The war there with Russia doesn't get enough publicity, so the rest of us in the world do not know the extent of what is happening except for 2 to 3 minutes 9n a news broadcast. I take my hat off to you and your lovely wife enduring this trip, and showing the world what is truly happening there. Keep up the good work.🇿🇦❤👍🙏
Incredible video. I love the variation- from western cities to the frontline and everything in between. The stories from the locals show incredible resilience.
Deanna’s passion and empathy with the locals really shows through too. Hearing her say ‘now that I’m here, f*** Russia’ and how upset she was just hit home.
Amazing work Drew!
Drew, first off, you are amazing my brother. I am an American who still supports Ukraine. It’s sad to see people’s fatigue of the war, especially people who aren’t directly involved in the conflict. But your friends are right. A country that is hungry for power does not stop after a successful campaign, they continue to devour. Thank you for such an insightful video, which I hope millions get to see and share. I pray that this conflict finds a resolution soon that’s beneficial to not just Ukraine, but democracy.
I had 3-4 Ukrainians in my class over the years and they are nice people. God bless them! Hopefully the war can end and the countries are in peace.
3-4? Maybe 3.5. You don't even remember the exact number, but they are nice people for sure.
@ I think 4 lol
Дякую за підтримку, щирість і добре серце❤
