This is an absolutely beautiful car. Such attention to detail on any given piece; even the details have details. What always gets me, as shown from the unrestored interior, is that this was once an ordinary car and someone’s daily driver. Thanks Lou and Jan for a classic!
I am in my 70's and lucky to remember these beautiful cars among other brands driving around back in the 1950's; Packards, DeSotos, Studebakers and many others from the 1930's & 40's Awesome cars.
It's almost impossible to fathom the labor intensiveness that went into building these cars and sheer number of parts. In addition, the number of models for each brand is hard to comprehend.
57 Chevrolets get all the attention but I would take either a 57 Buick Roadmonster OR a 57 Olds 98 Starfire any day of the week. Beautiful car, not many left. Thanks Lou.
My mother had a slightly used 1957 Roadmaster 2-door Riviera. A kind of a burnt Carl color below the Chrome strip and off-white above with a matching leather and gold lurex shot brocade interior.
I love Buicks. I would be so happy if all you posted was Buick videos. You are so pleasant and polite. You ask if you can open a door before you even touch it. "May I"- you don't hear that anymore. I especially love the '50's and '60's cars. Nice.
Happy to read you "love Buicks" :-) Stay tuned, there will be more coming up in future episodes. Also if you type in RUclips search "My Car Story with Lou Buick" you should see many cars I think you'll enjoy.
I love this body style much more than the other 2 door hardtop series that Buick shared with the Cadillac division. This one has the roof line it shared with the Oldsmobile. What a fine automobile.
Roy Gunter--Special and Century shared the slightly smaller body with this roofline. Super and Roadmaster shared the larger Cadillac body. Like you,, I prefer the Special and Century.
57 Buick and Olds (which had a prettier instrument panel) are two of the most gorgeous designs of the 50's GM cars...this one is so well kept except for the spaghetti under the dash
The 57 Olds was my second choice. Love that car, too. The Buick and Olds that year shared some of the same sheet metal, most notably the roof and rear window configuration. The wiring was/is a work in progress!
Yes. An old timer restorer checked the car out for me soon after I bought it. I was concerned about this and worried about that. His response was, "Just drive it." Recently I have replaced the master cylinder and booster so that stopping this car isn't a hair raising experience anymore.
Another beautifully maintained classic car, I have to hand it to you Lou your ability to unearth some of the most unusual and beautiful cars. Love the videos.
I had a 1964 Galaxie 500, a 69 LTD coupe, a 72 Caprice hardtop, a 1973 Mercury Marquis Brougham coupe(429 Police...4700 lbs of fast) a 1973 Buick LeSabre, a 1973 Olds 88 Royale convertible, a 1975 Bonneville coupe(275k..still ran good, but the frame rotted out), 1976 Bonneville hardtop, 1978 Buick Electra Limited, a 1979 Electra Limited, a 1980 Buick Regal Limited, a 1986 Plymouth Duster, a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville 1997 Buick Park Avenue Ultra(still got it) and a 2003 Park Avenue. I sold the convertible in 2005 like an idiot.
This car is one year older than I am. I love the colors of this car a lot! I also love the back window on this car the three sections it is awesome. Sounded healthy and strong too. Thanks for sharing Lou!
Thanks. Wish I could take the credit for the paint and body work. Although originality is the big thing in classic cars today, the weather here (vs AZ) was taking its toll, especially on parts that are irreplaceable. After 25 years I had to have the body paint and chrome done.
In 1956 my dad was working as a mechanic for a Buick car dealership called “Winnipeg Motor Products.” He worked for them until 1958, when he found more employment opportunities at a Chevrolet car dealership further down Main St. While he was with the Buick dealer, he bought a new 1956 Buick Special four-door sedan from them. With similar standard features as that 1957 model, my dad’s car was a monotone green colour with a grey leather interior. Thanks for sharing Lou!
Fantastic thing. Wonderful colours... Buick! When better cars are built, Buick will build them.... And talking of Rivieras! Imagine my absolute delight, surprise and pleasure when a 1964 Riviera pulled up alongside me a few months ago! Hi Jan & Lou: I was in Flint, Michigan just last week. You still see a lot of the locals driving Buick's - I was in a Ford 150 and I was the odd man out. Cool car and story on how Jan found this ride. 😎 • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Really Nice Special. The starting level model for Buick. btw the color is antique ivory not antique white over dover and the trunk cork was added by the owner and is not factory correct as from factory it had an embossed imprinted matt board wth a small rectangular embossed pattern. The collapsed glove box door pad is due to the factory foam rubber deteriorating under the factory vinyl covering. This can be corrected. The VIN tag in the door jamb indicates via the 1st number after the 7 to be a 2 indicating the car was manufactured at the Southgate GM plant in the L.A. area. Where the windshield washer button is to the left of the steering wheel indicates the sliding lever that operated the factory vacuum windshield wipers appears to be broken off. Upon opening the hood all the factory silver cad plated sheet metal bolt heads have been painted over with either flat black or along the fender well with over spray of the antique ivory. No bad here because taking all the bolts out and having them re-plated properly is very time consuming but necessary if you want to keep originality. The generator appears to be an alternator disquised as a generator which is beginning to be a popular upgrade if you intend to drive the car and have modern accessories and brighter headlights.

A family friend back in the sixties had a '57 Special in red and white two tone, it was a two door like this one, before that he owned a '56 Special four door sedan, red with white top, love those big Buicks 😎
Very nice and a great color combination! In those days even a base Special didn’t look cheap. They all looked good. For little more money than a Chevy a shopper could own a Buick Special! The owner does need to clean up the rats nest of wiring under the dash that detracts from an otherwise fabulous car!
The "perceived value" versus the actual cost was one of the things that made Buick such a huge seller through a good portion of the '50s. Largely on the strength of the Special. Unfortunately, after these gorgeous '57s the '58s had kind of "over the top" styling and add to that a disastrously troublesome radical new automatic transmission design and other lapses in quality, together with an economic recession during which people turned to more economical transportation, and sales plummeted. Took a long time to recover even with a completely new, renamed, model lineup. Have not checked sales figures but I think things were looking up with the newly introduced "Wildcat" & "Riviera" of 1963 although I believe the Riv, lovely as it was, never could beat T-Bird in sales...
I notice the owner has installed an electric cooling fan. My father purchased a 1957 Buick Special 4-door hardtop Estate Wagon new which we used for an Indiana-California vacation during the summer of 1957. In the western states the Buick always ran toward the hot side on the temp gauge.

The two-toning is split correctly on this car: Top color n the end of the door goes all the way to the bottom. Jambs are split. A lot of people get that wrong when re-painting these cars. If I were judging Id' have to take points off for that error.
the trunk didn't come with cork !! Riviera as three chrome strips next to door at rear fender and chrome in the dash running cross the dash . that engine as two barrel carburetor Riviera had 4 barrel and over 300h.p. what see is a special ,note I have one .
Yes, the cork is original to the car. The two barrel was standard as the Special was the low end of the model line with the Riviera above the basic Special. This engine has 225 HP with the two barrel.
Riviera simply means hardtop in Buick speak. Special indicates the series or model. The 57 Buicks with the three hash marks on the quarter panels are Soopers and roadmasters
Lou, I wish you would find out what engine sizes are in these vehicles that you show. Some models have many different engine options. That's what makes it an automobile. Your missing the whole experience.
Hi gregory galminas, No one I'm aware of on RUclips is sharing time period correct dealer brochures as I do in my "trunk & treat" sections of my videos (Example link - ruclips.net/video/IiW9wsTcZEU/видео.html ). Do I do this for every car? No. Why? Because not everybody has these documents. In conclusion, I'm not trying to be "Car & Driver" or "Motorweek" which is interested in the "stats". Stats" are nice, and most of the time I have them too. I'm interested in the "Story" of why the Care Taker has this car. Hope that helps with the direction this Channel goes, Lou
I used to drive an 18 wheeler...been to Naperville, Ontario, Salinas. CA is beautiful, but is run by a bunch of nuts.... I was never excited by the 57 Chevy..the Pontiac, Olds, and Buick were miles nicer.
In 1963 the Riviera came out as a separate nameplate. Starting in the late 1940s Buick had used the name Riviera as an edition in the Buick Special and was used on hardtops (pillarless window design greenhouse) and convertibles.
Starting with the model year for 1949 the first pillar-less true hardtop 2 door coupe was a Buick and was christened during design preproduction the " Riviera " by the lead designers wife and management liked the term so it stuck ... and so how the story goes.

WOW 😀
Happy to receive a "WOW" :-)

Sharp 50s cruiser...
Glad to read you enjoy this car :-)
У меня в детстве была такая игрушка,и колёса на ней поворачивались.

Эта игрушка, наверное, сегодня чего-то стоит!

Happy to read this car / video brings back memories of the Neighbor's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
I used to drive an 18 wheeler...been to Naperville, Ontario, Salinas. CA is beautiful, but is run by a bunch of nuts....
I was never excited by the 57 Chevy..the Pontiac, Olds, and Buick were miles nicer.
Hope now you're able to sit back Michael, and enjoy some of the cars with me :-)
@@loucostabile Yea. I contracted Sepsis from Carpal Tunnel surgery...and the nerve damage completely disabled me. So, time is what I have.
@@michaelcook768 I'm not sure what that is. Hope you heal up and while speaking healing into you I hope this RUclips Channel brings some joy too :-)
That's not a Riviera , Riviera did not come out until 1963
You're thinking of this one :-) Enjoy this link ruclips.net/video/IYkLFM673qs/видео.html
The hardtop models starting in the early fifties maybe late forties were known as Riviera
Child, Riviera was Buicks nomenclature for hardtop in the 1950s.
