By far one of my favorite reviews. What a great car!! There just isn't anything like an old sleeper. The underlying workings of technology and sport but the outward appearance of an oldie but a goodie.
Out of any car, classic or modern, I like these old Buicks' body styling the most. It's impressive the work done to it. The only issue I have with it is that it looks a little low for its styling. Raise it up a little and it'd be the best car I've ever seen and heard.
I like this guy's attitude. He's got a very witty way about him unlike most of the little nervous guys who come through Jay's shop are. I could see them getting a beer together. And badass car!
Believe it or not he used to be a child actor (he was in the movie Mac and Me) then retired to build cars in his later years. They interviewed him on the Smoking Tire Podcast, I suggest you take a listen.
2xDeuce which makes sense. Thats why hes so comfortable. I get a kick out of all the complaining by some viewers over the guests nervousness. I watch these for the cars not to critique the owners.
2xDeuce Ironic that he played character voice (with Robin Williams among others) in an animated film (1992) about saving a rain forest. and now he pollutes the world with junky gas-guzzling relics.
Watching this video of 2 car lovers thoroughly enjoying this car is a joy to watch. It is inspiring to see people do what they love and creating such works of art and technology.
I feel like i recall seeing this on L.A Noire, and then i remembered that Jay actually allowed Team Bondi to use many of his own cars to be put into the game :D Cool video, and cool car!
+Francoberry I'm a big fan of L.A. Noire cause of the 1940s setting, but that is an awesome fact! I never knew that Jay Leno supported Team Bondi with this.
Top Gear is fake. Very popular, but fake. No interest here. Watching top gear is what it would feel like to be a eunuch on his wedding night finding out his bride is a trans-male cross dresser. Nothing about it does anything for you and it gives you a pain in the butt.
Another great Icon! The window switch should be integrated into the original cranks so that tapping the crank up would roll the window up and tapping down would bring it down. Thanks Jay for another great show and Jonathan for yet another outstanding car.
Jay, you said "Hilarious" 11 times in the video. It's definitely a fun looking car but it's no joke. About as inventive and artful as it gets. Good job Mr. Ward.
Had to pause this new video for just a moment to say this. My day is not complete until i watch at least one episode of jay leno's garage! I cant begin to tell you how much i look up to jay leno! What an awesome guy. Definitly visiting big dog garage someday with our two boys when we can!!!
Seen a lot of vintage police accident scene photos of people thrown from these old convertibles....I wonder how far this beauty would eject the occupant?
Just picked one up myself, barn find convertible just like this one, converted drive train and pushing a cadillac 500, gonna be a blast to drive soon, top down sunny days
Hey Jay it was the same year I was born 1948 , I'd like to have one of those cars but I'm sure it's a little out of my price range ! I see most cars on your show are right up there with the big money ! I love the show and the work you do for the veterans thank you
That car is perfect, the ultimate sleeper... It's just cool on so many levels. I love all the derelict cars Jonathan Ward has done. I dig the whole vibe.
I think the cars awesome my 50 chevy we grafted 79 Z28 Camaro subframe into it and it made a big difference I can only imagine with an Art Morrison under my car but that car is cool very good show thanks jay

Ah! My Dad bought this model of car right after he returned from the WW II, being a navigator in a B-17 on D-Day and flying over 35 missions. He drove to the factory and bought it off the line. A pretty blue. He courted my mom in it and he kept til til my brother came along... I wish I could find his car, sold in Houston TX 1955.
I've watched this one a few times and I get a kick out it every time. And to Johnathan you did a favor for me and you have my respect and admiration to you and your business team. The very best to you and Jay. God bless you both and drive safe.
I remember a friend of the family had a white '48 Roadmaster convertible in the med 60's. I was about 14 at the time and thought it was the coolest car ever. It had a straight 8 and the dynaflush so it was not very good off the line but the speed would increase forever as long as you kept the gas peddle down. I remermber fixing the 6v radio, the caps around the vibrator were shot and I but a new vibrator and OZ4 rectifier tube, It had a great sounding 8" speaker behind that chrome grill. I still remember flying down Rt 6 on Cape Cod in that beast - what a blast.
What an inspirational example of innovation, tradition and teamwork all working toward the preservation of a mans passion.A wonderful engineering master piece
Jay gives J Ward his "cred;" that is, credibility and credentials plus a terrific interview vs. Jonathan's usual informative selling commentary, a nice balance.
Lol..I had a bit of a giggle when they were talking about the power windows and he said they changed the switches so you dont have to do a reach around..but absolutely love this car and what this guy does with them. just awesome.
Thats sweet, an old Hudson or Packard would be awesome too. What makes it fun is it plays with your senses, old rusty iron but yet it doesn't drive like old iron!
I've only seen this car in shining new paint job and modern hot rod rims. So i didn't pay much attention to it in the past. This however looks gorgeous, the fainting paint, the color, the rims, the leather seats, front bumper with yellow lights. This is one of the best looking cars I've seen.

I watched this and l kept thinking of Phil Silvers madly driving across the California desert in the classic movie "It's A Mad, Mad World"! In this car he would definitely won the race to find the hidden money!

Just to be different, I'm gonna put a '48 Buick drivetrain into a 2015 Z06 vette.
Then I can tell everyone I beat a Corvette in my Honda lol
Smoother, more reliable, better mileage...you may have something there! ^_^
Yeah...a corvette with a Buick straight 8 lol

I’m in awe of this car. The lines and sheet metal of a classic Buick with the power and amenities of new corvette!😄
I could watch a whole show just on that chassis, that thing looked awesome.
Check out Johnathan Ward on his youtube

I'm watching this & I just happen to have a 1948 Roadmaster 50,000 original miles right outside my door. Waiting on gaskets.............oh the agony
I don't think I've seen Jay smile and laugh as much driving any other vehicle.

I think Jay set a new record for the number of times he said "hilarious" in this episode. And it was a HILARIOUS video to watch! (lol)
It's so funny, Jay in this thing and that Cutlass Banshee. He lit up driving both of them like a little kid at Christmas.

Pure awesome. Amazing project pulled off perfectly. Congratulations.

This is an AWESOME car. It's a giant middle finger to polite society and hybrid drivers.
Stupid prejudicial jerk.
And you annoy society how? by buying a $100,000 modified car?
WoW! What a wonderful way to preserve the past. I especially liked the dash. The grin in Jay's face said it all!
Such a cool ride. Would be funny as an all-electric with similar horsepower :D I've always loved the "rat" type cars with spotless tech inside.
Keep an eye on Jonathan Ward's RUclips channel. He's been working on a derelict 1949 Mercury electric vehicle and it's almost done.

That car is really something. I love that aged look but also how they modernized the insides while keeping a simple, stock appearance.
Back in the day when we would race for pinks we called em a sleeper ...
The difference to a sleeper, I would say, is that a sleeper looks normal while derelicts look "terrible"
There is a great surfin’ song which tells that story: _Sleeper_ by The Trashmen ruclips.net/video/R9MShAuYXNQ/видео.html
It is wonderful feeling Jay's JOY when he loves a car, excellent episode.
