  • In this video I share with you my preferred method of painting eye lenses for Warhammer 40,000 miniatures. It creates a glowing aesthetic achieved by following a simple 3 step process which will result in your army being able to DESTROY the enemy's before you even deploy.

    Love your teaching style! I was actually using spiritstone red over white bc it gives that reflective effect with a natural catchlight - but I’m going to try BA contrast now too. I also love that you let the undercoat go over the bottom eyelid so that it can sell the glowing effect - def gonna try!

    Awesome vid, seems way more approachable now. Would you have any suggestions for a paint list for purple lenses?

    • @WhatThe40k
      @WhatThe40k  2 месяца назад

      Glad you liked it. Purple has always been a bit tricky for me. I've had difficulty finding hyper vibrant purple paints (perhaps its a pigment limitation?). Maybe for purple a violet ink might be a better way to go over a conventional contrast paint. Or try out the method described in the vid. The most vibrant Contrast/express purple over a bright base. Then once dry, a bright pale purple over top.

      Sorry for the late response, just noticed this 😅 It definitely could in principle! Though it may require less of a quick and dirty approach.

    nice videos! Any ideas on making a white glow that doesn't just look flat?

    • @WhatThe40k
      @WhatThe40k  9 месяцев назад +2

      White glow is a tough one. Personally I haven't attempted it, but I'd say trying this method would probably be my first avenue of experimentation. Perhaps, Off-white, then grey or maybe white contrast...🤔

    • @CMTechnica
      @CMTechnica 9 месяцев назад +1

      Best chances are reversing the highlights using contrasts. Make the edges brighter than the inner ring and use pure white (would recommend bold titanium white, honestly) for the exact center. Soulblight grey contrast for the glaze, probably?
      White is the worst color to paint. Worse than black, worse than yellow

    You got a recommended citadel red for the raven guard lenses? Haven’t bought any other brands other than valejo for a decent white and their German grey

    • @Writh811
      @Writh811 9 месяцев назад +1

      To my eye, I would recommend Fulgrim Pink for the bright base (maybe add a touch of white scar to brighten it up further).

    • @WhatThe40k
      @WhatThe40k  9 месяцев назад +1

      I'd agree with @Writh811 I've found the citadel paints which were once under the 'edge' type serve well as the pale base

  • @Djones0125
    @Djones0125 5 месяцев назад

    the easiest way for me to do this is paint the lens black, then white over the middle part where it sticks up a bit. then a thinned paint or contrast paint.

    I’m not sure what to do for my dark pale green helms of my dragon fists with dark red armor. I don’t like yellow or bright green really. Red or blue eyes or even purple?

    • @WhatThe40k
      @WhatThe40k  9 месяцев назад

      I believe I replied to this question on an earlier post, but incase you missed it :Blue eye lenses might be to your preference. It should contrast well against the crimson, and pair nicely against the gold accents too.

    I´m creating my own chapter based on Black Templars...
    but with the classic Codex helmet color markings and the Blood Angels helmet color scheme
    what is a "neutral" color for the lenses in all combinations of black, red, yellow, white, gold, silver and blue
    I don't want my home brew chapter to be confused with other chapters because the "colors are more or less fixed to the colors of the helmets "
    for example: I can't use red lenses with red helmets etc. I want all branches to have the same lens color...
    I'm experimenting with the Colorshift and Chrome colors from GWS, but I'm not happy with them yet because the "contrast" is too weak for some color combinations
    The lens color should be something like an "identifying feature", like the shoulder armor color of the BT's, and should have an extremely "intimidating" effect
    I was thinking of an effect like plasma in a radiant chromatic blue-white color that stands out even with silver, white and gold
    thanks in advance ;)

    • @WhatThe40k
      @WhatThe40k  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hmmm. Good question. Definitely tougher with so many varieties of helmets. And if you must keep the eye lenses the same across all helmet types I would say.................................... Green. Green iz best.
