Ur the real gem Trovarion
Trovariite?
Y'ore
Jump back to this every time I have another gem to paint. Perfect video
May I suggest a video on controlling a characters age. I find with a lot of sculpts my guys always look between 30-45.
Sometimes I want a character to look older or younger than I have represented with my painting. What kind of tricks can I employ to do so other than darkening eyes/cheeks for example?
Thanks King Tro'.
Try going harsher or softer on your contrast between shadows and highlights, more contrast for older, less for younger? It should make the skin look looser or tighter, respectively.
@@Splatterpunk_OldNewYork You need to learn to give advice correctly, period.
3 month old comment?
I think a lot of people would like to see maybe how to paint fire, where it is the brightest, how it would cast light. I think it could fit into 3 minutes and would be super helpful. Loved this!
This is what I love about Trovarion. I have been painting since the 90's, but this guy makes me understand WHY we paint how we do. I ahve leant more about painting and color theory wahthing his videos than I have done in 25 year before! Check out his video on why we push contrast the way we do on minis.
One thing I'd really like to see is fabric textures. Like how to paint so something looks like leather and how that differs from painting a fine cloak etc.
Awesome color scheme on that eldar too
White on the bottom then adding color is a solid tip.
personally, i would love to see more of your tmm approach, especially on armors. there are no videos abt tmm made by pros :). all are caught in nmm mode
ruclips.net/video/nEca6dEauYk/видео.html I honestly think there is some good TMM info in this video :)
This is great. I really liked the analysis of the actual gem - something I've not seen before. It makes painting it more obvious when you know what you're trying to replicate. I wonder if that's a series of short videos you could look to do. Essentially replicate something real in paint - I've often seen the advice to use real world reference, but breaking that down into how that would be done and extracting the core information from the real life item would be good.
Holy mother bawlls, every time I see your art,I'm resnareed into a world of tucked bad assert painting . damn you models are making me trip balls and I don't drink or do drugs
Thank you for this excellent content! I am working on a mini (a gift for a friend to help him celebrate beating cancer) and I was able to do a more-than-decent "power sword" thanks in no small part to your videos on the subject (I watched a LOT of videos on that....) and this video is an awesome inspiration to also add a gem effect to the figure!
Really solid tips, explained well, dig the addition of this format
Dude, every one of your videos inspires me to get better at this hobby... just want to say thanks.
I would love a vídeo on how to load a brush with paint so it flows nice.
Will be adding this effect to my necrons, what a great effect cheers
You are both a masterful teacher and artist. Always in awe of your output. This seems like the perfect format. Very excited to see what you come up with next.
My suggestion: how to paint ultra-realistic heavily-rusted iron (ie: how to paint irreparably damaged, pitted, flaking, rotting iron covered by bright orange rust). I'm planning on doing this with my Ironjawz, so a 3 minute video on it from you would be a dream come true.
Keep inspiring brother!
Thanks T, I painted my very first gem yesterday, so this video was right on time :)
Makes me want to paint some gems soon to try this out myself. Helpful video!
Quick, easy and the results look great. Awesome job Trovarion!
I love the subtle insert of a "the boys" clip......super helpful video
Love your short and long tutorials, thanks
great video, i think these shorts on painting specific things are a great idea. Would love a one on painting good lenses or eyes.
This is an excellent gem tutorial. I'm gonna go do it rn. Gracias!
Oh man I was just wishing for something like this, you're the man Trovarion!
Amazing looking gems, great to see your process! 🔥
I’d love to see your take on painting eyes. And maybe 2 videos, one on human/humanoid eyes and another on alien and monster eyes
This is so helpful, thanks!
Trying this today. Thanks Trovarion.
Loved the editing on this video 🙌🏻
Nice one mate. Thanks.
All the best from Cornwall England.
This was really helpful, thank you.
Amazing!!! I was waiting for a gem video!!! Thanks mate!!!
Great tip, please do more like this
Wow mind blown! Pumped to have found your channel
I would love to see a thousend sons tutorial in your painting stile. I think ts have a great model but it always seamed to me like they were missing something maybe you could help
Very nice tutorial! I think an idea for a future video could be non-spherical/round gems. Or (not sure if its possible) how to do a "cut" gem effect on something that's modeled as round.
By the ghost of Clyde Caldwell
Great video ! I may be interested in tips to do eyes
Would you add gloss varnish pn thr gems? Or is that destroying the "fake reflection" you painted?
I'd like to see how are you taking care of brushes and keep them sharp please
Wow, such a great and useful video!!
Glazing! I suck at it!
What should the consistency of paint be? Water-to-paint ratio? Do you thin with water or medium? When should I use them? When *shouldn't* I use them? How to prevent staining and a darker ring around the glazed area? Can I glaze with any color? Teach me, master!
I would love some technique for painting fur. All I do rn is some wet blending to get a transition, a wet brushing to get some rough highlights and then some normal drybrushing after. It looks ok but only for tabletop standard, dont know how to paint display fur, though :/
Very nice SBS , Thank you
Very nice ! thank you very much !
you need to add a clear coat to really make it pop and be super shiny and smooth.
any tips for painting opalite and moonstones? seems like a challenge and I haven seen anyone covering those yet
Thx Chris. Amazing and helpful as always,
Very easy but grat video! Thank you very much!
Great video again. Would love to see a video on glazing.
check out his Patreon. He has a full in-depth video on that! Highly recommended
Great. This is very helpful.
Great video as usual:).
Sweet, thanks!
I was always intimidated by the blending. But just trying with a few very course layers works perfectly for quick gems, especially the small little ones.
Got two questions, how does one paint hair, and how does one add subtle highlights on a mini to convey the environment
Incredibly educational
Will this work on lenses? For example a rifle scope? Awesome content by the way!👍🏽😊
Yes.
Suggestion: Can you demonstrate how to decide on how much highlight vs shadow to apply on surfaces to get it to read as the midtone color? Right now I'm painting a bunch of large flat and curved panels and struggling to get it to read right... Or how I would like it to be.
How about priming and varnishing by brush, for people always on the go?
Great video, Trov!
The green gems looked particularly believable, especially considering they were placed next to a green glow! Did you avoid pure white on all but the reflection on the gem?
thanks a lot for your support!
yes, I don't use any white for the other parts - you can compare it to where I show the red glass bead, it turns orange in the brightest parts, but never goes white really. That way the white reflection on top stands out more too.
This is great!
Amazing video, especially when you take reality as example, trying to reproduce the behavior. I like a lot this touch of realism even if we all follow the "rule of cool"
Great video :D
Could/Would this be used for lenses in equipment, goggles, glasses and helmet lenses?? Great video and I like this format for you and us!!! Thanks!!
Yeah, you can absolutely use it for that!
Do you have a similar technique for painting crystals or crystalline objects?
Very cool!
You should enter Golden Demon with that Necron.
May i ask which colors exactly you used for painting that greenish gem in the Skorpek Destroyers Leg orb?
ruclips.net/video/7q6CQ1vSS6E/видео.htmlsi=dk-upjXx7R8lyylt don't remember, too long ago. But it's from this video.
@trovarion thanks and still great job as always 👌
What brush are you using here?
Trov, really like the emphasis on use of opposite ends of white light speck on sides of gem, white & gemstone colors. Never seen/heard that before, makes a big difference ! Thanks :)
I've got a question for trov or anyone that can help im glueing the head of my new guilliman together and some of the tamiya glue ran over his right eye and its kinda melted it a bit before I could save it which is very annoying but I've decided to go with it and try make it like damage to the helmet. my question is how do I change it or make it look like damage is there a best thing to do? or should I just leave that
Depends on the ammount of damage and how much work you want to invest
But should I put gloss varnish on the gems as well? It would make them pop
I don't. But you can do whatever you want :)
Generally I find that gloss makes it look better in person, but leaving it matte makes it photograph better. Experiment and choose accordingly!
I love this! But I’m not sure what you started with .. is the gem based in black ? Or a dark version of the Color you are going for ?
Starting from black and then mixing in more and more color - number of layers depending on how smooth you want it. Of course there is different approaches, for some colors you can get away with just thinning down the midtone and going straight over black, etc. etc.
Yay Queen Mave ftw!
Vielen, vielen Dank!
Have you ever painted gems to look like pearls? I would be interested in seeing a video about that
Could you do this technique then use a clear gloss over it? Or would that completely ruin it
I mean, of course you could :) depends what you want to get from it!
I'm watching this because I'm going to paint my rock elemental like a gem and want it to look really nice, I haven't decided I'm stuck between emerald and amethyst
Queen Meave! #TheBoys
If you swallow that gem it will give you magical powers from a mysterious dimension linked to all living beings.
Its interesting how much more "correct" the gem looked when you had the lightsource to the top right, rather than directly down on the topside of the gem.
cos you are never standing directly under the sun irl, its always angled a bit
Great video, future dad !
I thought the balls on the Necrons were lights not gems! aaaah
They can be either, especially since colored lenses can refract light a lot like a gem would
nice title
👀
Rad
Why do you look like Ethan Hawke 🤔
;0)
the secret is high gloss varnish, skill level noob and looks good on tabletop, might get you laughed at in competition painting
Very nice tutorial! I think an idea for a future video could be non-spherical/round gems. Or (not sure if its possible) how to do a "cut" gem effect on something that's modeled as round.
Very helpful. Thanks
