God, what a masterpiece. Genuine survival thrillers are a rare thing in video games; until The Last of Us came along, there really wasn't another title that even came close to giving off the same feeling of desperate, frantic brutality and moment-to-moment survival that Half-Life gave you. Half-Life 2 was more of a dramatic ass-kicking space opera epic, and while that is very awesome too, the first game will always have a bigger place in my heart for being such a rare breed. Not many video games have the balls to be as hard fucking core as Half-Life 1. It's so beautiful.
Canada Quite the contrary. The way you feel when you escape, the way ou are breaking all the rules, you shouldn't know about this place, you were supposed to die but you got away and you have to escape, constantly trying to find a way through this facility to find an escape... Portal 1 actually gave me a much bigger adrenaline rush than Half Life did, but half life comes in second because of what genuinesaucy said.
Andrew Ricklefs Are you really trying to say Portal is a better game than Half-Life? What the fuck is wrong with you, Portal is fun for 3 minutes solely because of physics and theory, HALF LIFE IS A FUCKIN' ERA FOR VIDEO GAMES. I OUGHTTA DRAG YOU THROUGH THE MUD!!
Opposing Forces Um, no, when did I ever say portal was a better game than half life? They are very different and I wasn't comparing the games as wholes.
That moment when you pissed off a militarized police force working for a race of gasmask fetishist aliens to send an attack helicopter on you while you're riding a boat.
But then you randomly do a simple puzzle that looks like someone really had too much time on they're hands for a ramp to meet a few rebels and a vortigaunt that gives you a gun on your boat causing more mayhem.
I'd call this Barney Calhoun's theme, Military Precision Adrian Shephard's theme, Klaxon Beat Gordon Freeman's theme and Hazardous Environment the G-Man's theme.

Facing the soldiers for the first time was an experience. Until that point I had never seen a more engaging "AI" in a game, everyone just stood still or ran in a straight line at you. I don't think I ever experienced something similar again except with FEAR. Valve knew they hit gold with their AI and introducing the grunts like this, with their own little arena and musical cue rather than just another enemy is evidence of it.

Imagine being a marine, you hear this song beginning to play in the distance. You have heard the stories from the other marines, their desperate pleas for help through the radio, swiftly cut off by the sound of metal colliding with flesh, always accompanied by this exact song. Your friends have tried to explain it to themselves, but you know that there is no rational explanation as to where this song is coming from. All you know is that it means danger is nearby. The music begins to approach the beat drop. You stand at attention, ready to defend yourself. The beat drops. Soon enough, you see a man flying down a corridor at what seems like the speed of light, carrying what seems to be a crowbar. You try to shoot at him, but you can't pin him down. He is moving too fast. You watch on helplessly as he caves in the skulls of your squad mates, unable to do anything to stop him. One by one, the bodies of your comrades hit the ground, making a horrifying splattering noise, but you can't quite hear it over the song that is now playing all around you, obscuring any other noise in the area. You try to run, but you know that it is hopeless. He catches you, and without saying a single word, he strikes you down with his crowbar. You lie on the ground, trying your best to act like you are dead. He eventually walks away after blowing up a few of your fallen comrades bodies. You eventually gather the strength to get up and crawl to the surface, barely fighting off the aliens you come across. You eventually make it to the surface and come across a friendly medic. He bandages some of your wounds to the best of his ability and you get onto one of the helicopters waiting at the entrance to the facility, having recently learnt that you are now leaving this hell hole. "Finally", you think to yourself, "I will get to live, I will get to see my kids again." But, as you lie on a bench in the helicopter, you hear something horrifying. Your heart drops as you hear that song in the distance. The gunners try their best to shoot him down, but you know that it is too late for all of you. You accept your fate as you feel the heat of an explosion consuming you. You feel unimaginable pain, and then you feel nothing.
Man, do I ever love this part in HL2. There's nothing you can possibly do but gun the throttle and swerve around the mines, yet it is just plain fun. +TK Gaming valve got lazy and decided to re-use the soundtrack from half life 1 in certain segments of HL2. this one plays in HL1 near the end of "we've got hostiles" and in HL2 during a segment in water hazard when you're trying to escape the combine helicopter/hunter chopper.
I think this music plays specifically in we got hostiles when ascending by the elevator is probably due to gordon thinking "what the heck was that? Why was that soldier hostile??" Then he gets out of the elevator to see his fellow scientists get killed this confirms his suspicion that the soldiers aren't here to rescue us..they are here to kill us! The part where the music goes full blown hard is gordon anger and rage seeing his colleagues get gunned down by his fellow humans in a dark hour where humanity must collide yet these soldiers decide to turn against their own race! I think this explains why this plays in that area and it plays in the area in surface tension where you are directly under the soldiers however I think it has another implication here instead of rage gordon hears the soldiers and his heart starts to beat fast as he never beneath unaware soldiers the adrenaline and morphine spike up as gordon realizes that he can use the tunnels to ambush the soldiers he is delighted with it he guns them down by going from one hole to the other he feels better as more of these soldiers taste the end of his crowbar and he just destroyed a tank too which gotta be the part where his "adrenaline" spiked as the tank fired at him and he somehow didn't die , its context may be different in surface tension maybe... if anyone reading this voice your thoughts on why this epic track plays in these sections of the game...

I don't know how Gordon is so skilled with these weapons. Besides mild training in the hazard course he doesn't seem to have any prior firearms experience. Don't get me started on the tau cannon and the gluon gun.
That moment when you play a certain song over and over again and somebody asks “Bro, stop listening to this” and you just so happen to be holding a crowbar...

Even with games like Artefact, Counter Strike on the Xbox, the original port of Half Life 2 for Xbox 360, and all those weird Asian Counter Strike games, you still think so?

Fanboys, pay them no mind
@@HemmTBM excluding cs:cz because it’s technically a fan game and I literally don’t see the problem with the orange box hl2
@@TheONLYFeli0 CSCZ isn't a fangame. It was made by Turtlerock and published by valve.
@@TheONLYFeli0 There was another port of Half Life 2 realsed by itself. It had giant problems with the frame rate, graphics and controls. But atleast it had preety good save system. That's all
Yeah thats the one ive been looking for!
STAP
we m2'ing marines with the shotgun with this one
I don't know how Gordon is so skilled with these weapons. Besides mild training in the hazard course he doesn't seem to have any prior firearms experience. Don't get me started on the tau cannon and the gluon gun.
shh hes just so fucking badass
don't shoot! I'm with the Thinking With Portals team!

That moment when you play a certain song over and over again and somebody asks “Bro, stop listening to this” and you just so happen to be holding a crowbar...

This is one of the music that tells me to make the volume higher
this song truly captures the chaotic power of freeman. a scientist genius that became a lethal force against the military and invading aliens
Every speedrunner's favourite subject
When the FBI comes into your home at 3am
This is a cool song
When your crush sits at the same table as you, or stands behind you in the lunch line. o3o xD
Diabolical Adrenaline kicks in. Lol
All jokes aside, this was an amazing part of Half Life. I liked both games (Half Life and Half Life 2.) Both were equally innovating, and almost no other games can compare to the Half Life series.

This is what "community" you should join. not bronys :/
mrdog652 _-CRAZYMUFFIN-_ I'm in both communities. Although, I don't make my profile picture a pony on anything related to Half Life. It's usually the Lambda symbol or a head crab zombie. Lol
Riptide gamer xD
That sucks, man.
idk why everyone insults bronies without any reasons theres a difference between bronies and FANBOYS!
Well, Bronies are fanboys in a way. Some make fanart, some make music, some write stories, some like to make NSFW art.
This shit gives me goosebumps
Try fighting replica soldiers with this
“SQUAD! NEUTRALIZE! TARGET!”
When you woke up at 9:55 am, but work will start in 5 minutes
Awesome quality!!
No half-life, no life!
