Did you not install or remove those cross beams? I want to install a fan but my Yardistry has two beams that will be in the way unless I put the fan blades lower than them with an extension.
The 12 inch download on the fan clears those beams so it is not an issue. I purchased a 12 inch and an 18 inch down road jut to make sure I was all set
What is the junction box for? I want to do this same thing to my gazebo and I am trying to understand why the fan plug can’t come out of the fan switch box straight to the outlet versus having to add a junction box. Excellent work by the way!
Hi PN. The junction box is to convert the wiring from the fan, which is just wire to an actual plug so I can plug it into the outdoor outlet on the house. When you buy the fan, it just has three wires coming off it. I extended those wires 25 feet to the junction box on the gazebo post near the patio door. Then from the junction box I converted it to the end of an outdoor extension cord so I could plug it in.
Plant Based Dads Thanks for the reply! So it’s not possible to convert the wiring from the switch into a plug? You wired the fan to the fan switch, then from the fan switch you took the wiring to the junction box, so it’s not possible to use the wiring from the fan switch and just turn it into the plug at that point vs having to create a junction box? I’m not questioning what you did, I’m just wondering if I could do the job without the junction box that way I don’t have to have two boxes mounted on the gazebo post.
Hello. I used spray paint from Hope Depot. I just did a flat black to match the trim on the gazebo. I used high heat spray paint because of how hot it gets here in Phoenix. I had to lay all the pieces out on tables in the garage and then spray them all. Then I had to turn them all over and spray the other sides of them. It was annoying, but it really looked great when it was finished.
@@PlantBasedDads Thank you! A couple of questions. Did you sand the pvc pipes first for adhesion or use any kind of primer? Do you remember the make or exactly which spray can you used from Home Depot? Thank you!
Hello. I did not sand anything or prime anything. I just painted them. Let's hope that doesn't come back to bite me later on. The paint was actually a primer/paint in one can, but I didn't buy it for that reason. Here is a link to the paint I used. I needed 3 cans for the whole project. www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Universal-11-oz-All-Surface-Satin-Black-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-in-One-342511/307244963 The conduit was already a flat grey so it really doesn't need primer. The metal boxes could probably have used some primer first but I just didn't use it. You probably should use spray primer on the metal pieces that you are painting. Good luck.
WOW! Awsome job, I’m basically following everything you did. Building the privacy wall later on but for now I have the lights installed, bought the fan, conduits ect. Just wonder what type of wiring did you use(link)?
I got it from home depot. There is some code here or something that says you cant use romex (the wire in the yellow binding) if you are putting it through a conduit. So, I purchased some wire off the "Cut to length" rolls at home depot by the foot. I got 50ft of it. It's the only 3 wire they have on the big rolls there. The guy from that aisle told me its the same wire as in the romex so ask the employee which one that is. It's a 3 wire black, white and green.
Hey - great job!! This looks awesome. I bought this same gazebo from Costco and am trying to do the same thing! What kind of paint did you use to paint the conduit pipes?
You put your gazebo exactly where I put mine, the problem is when it rains all that water is going to drop right in front of the sliding door. Do you have a video showing putting up gutters to stop the water?
It's Phoenix, It doesn't rain. It hasn't rained since we put that thing up in May. So, that is not really a concern for us here. We are going to put gutters on it though, so we can control where the water goes and get it to go into a barrel to water plants. When we do that, I'll do a video on it. Thanks so much for watching.

whatever the standard is. It was a few years ago. I just got the stuff off the roll at Home Depot. They said I couldn't use the yellow romex in conduit.
Anyone have any suggestions for how to paint the conduit black? We've purchased gray flexible conduit, even roughed it up a little, but are still having issues getting the black paint to stick. Any ideas would be awesome! Thanks.
It is completely waterproof. There is no water coming into the patio. So we are pretty happy with it. All of the conduit is outside conduit anyway so its all sealed.
Was the 12 inch down rod included or was it a separate purchase? What diameter? 1 inch or 3/4? I ordered the same fan but it doesn’t mention a down rod being included and I can’t find any info on the mfg website. Thanks
Hi Robert. It does come with a down road. But it's only a few inches. I had to buy the 12in one from Home Depot. I just took the one they gave me with the fan and compared it to the ones in the fan aisle at HD. It was pretty easy. They are all the same width. I got a 12inch and an 18inch. I ended up using the 12in because I felt the 18inch brought the fans down too far from the ceiling. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi Joe. I bolted that ceiling fan box to the 3 beams above it before I mounted the ceiling fan. That box has screws going deep into the beams the long way so it will support any ceiling fan you can get from the store.
@@PlantBasedDads Joey, By the way, the install was very clean and professional. I liked the way you used the conduit and am looking at the liquidtight flexible non-metallic PVC. Its flexible but. I will have to paint it since its grey - lol

They sell them in the ceiling fan section and Lowes and Home Depot. They come in different sizes. I got the 12". The smaller ones were too small. Get a minimum of 12"
I believe its 12/2. It's the same wire thats in the yellow romex but we couldn't use the romex because its not meant for being inside conduit outside. So we purchased that 3 wire combo off the large rolls at Home Depot. You buy it by the feet. We got 50ft of it and it was way more than we needed.
Appreciate you showing us what you did. The black conduit looks real good.

If that doesn't work, email me at plantbaseddads@gmail.com and ill send you the link in email along with all of the parts I got and photos of all the steps. I have already sent that out to people so Ill just forward it to you too.
Hey Sir what is that plug adapter called? The one plugged into the gfci?
Good job.
Thanks so much Mary. I think painting the conduits black really made it look like it was originally there.
Definitely looks super good-especially with the conduits painted! (Did you spray paint or use a brush?)
Maybe good idea to black magic marker your screws?
You did an amazing job! Where is the black conduit and wiring from?
I spray painted all of the conduit and connectors with black spray paint
Hi, what did you paint the pvc pipes and junction boxes black with?
I needed 3 cans for the whole project.
www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Universal-11-oz-All-Surface-Satin-Black-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-in-One-342511/307244963
The conduit was already a flat grey so it really doesn't need primer.
Thhn wire is used in conduit
12/3
Hey - great job!! This looks awesome. I bought this same gazebo from Costco and am trying to do the same thing!
What kind of paint did you use to paint the conduit pipes?
It was just flat black paint from the cheap spray section at home depot
Great video! Right where the round metal box for the fan was installed there is a rod that holds the top cap in place. How did you deal with that?
Hello. The rods are on either side of the fan, not where the round metal box is. There is nothing under the round metal box but 2x4s.
@@PlantBasedDads
I live in California, I know about no rain. But still, when it goes though, I don't want it 6 inches from my back slider. Thx PBD
You could add gutters right under your rooflines
@@xscooterbuttx
Yes, I tracked some down from home depot. Thx Stacie.
@@xscooterbuttx I will be adding them in the fall too, Just waiting for the temperature to drop below 90 degrees.
What size conduit did you use? It looks like 3/4. I was going to do 1/2 but not sure it is big enough.
Yes, it is a 3/4 conduit that I painted black. You are. right, 1/2 was not big enough.
@@PlantBasedDads Thanks you did an outstanding job. It looks so professional. I will be doing the same thing.
Cant seem to find that metal ceiling fan base box, where did you get yours ?
Home Depot. It is just a round ceiling fan box. This is the one I got:

1/2 inch electrical conduit. I paint it black first in the garage and then installed it all. Thanks so much for watching.

Another response you said 3/4" conduit, but said 1/2" here.
Where’d you get your conduit ? Do you have a link ? And what paint did you use
Email me at diyprojectguys@gmail.com and request a parts list. Ill send you all the links and stuff I used. That is also where my new DIY videos are. I did a privacy wall for this gazebo that came out amazing.

What did you use to paint the conduit
Where did you get that box the fab mounts to?
Sean , I got it from Home Depot. Send me an email to diyprojectguys@gmail.com and ill send you a parts list. I am getting back home from vacation on 6/16. Thanks.
How are the lights wired up?
I did a whole video on how I ran electric for the lights. Check that out.

Any updates on the effectiveness of the fan? Does it really cool you off during the hot months. I have the same gazebos and looking into installing a fan as well
Hi Michael. I dont know know that it does that much. We dont really go outside during June-September. But during the rest of the year. its does blow a light breeze down for sure. I love the look of it. If you email me at plantbaseddads@gmail.com ill send you all the photos and parts pictures of all the wiring. Also, we are uploading DIY content on our new DIY only channel called 'DIY Project Guys Channel". So head over there and subscribe for future Gazebo videos. We just uploaded a video on that channel about building a privacy wall on our gazebo. Check that one out. Its really beautiful..

Looks fantastic! Planning on purchasing the same fan, did the fan come with the 12" extension rod or was that purchased elsewhere?
Where u get the 12 in. Down rod???
Lowes. They had other sizes also but that one fit the best. Thanks so much for watching.
What wire gauge did you use?
whatever the standard is. It was a few years ago. I just got the stuff off the roll at Home Depot. They said I couldn't use the yellow romex in conduit.
Is there a parts list for this project? I want to do this exact thing to mine.
Yes, I send out a parts list and photos. Email me at DIYProjectGuys@gmail.com and i'll forward all that to you.
@@PlantBasedDads I just emailed ya for the parts list. Thanks guys!
Anyone have any suggestions for how to paint the conduit black? We've purchased gray flexible conduit, even roughed it up a little, but are still having issues getting the black paint to stick. Any ideas would be awesome! Thanks.
Try some black duct tape around it
I have the same project. Hows the yardistry’s water proofing for that roof? Im afraid rain water could get in that conduit.
Hi is Joe again. What was your max weight for the fan? Thanks!
J
Yeah it was annoying to paint it but that grey was just too ugly. Thanks for the kind words. I wanted it to look nice since I will be out there 9 months of the year.
@@PlantBasedDads 9 months - curious where in the US you are located?
I am in Phoenix AZ
Where can i get down rod ?
They sell them in the ceiling fan section and Lowes and Home Depot. They come in different sizes. I got the 12". The smaller ones were too small. Get a minimum of 12"
What kind of wiring did you use?
I believe its 12/2. It's the same wire thats in the yellow romex but we couldn't use the romex because its not meant for being inside conduit outside. So we purchased that 3 wire combo off the large rolls at Home Depot. You buy it by the feet. We got 50ft of it and it was way more than we needed.
Sweet good job!
Hi. instead of conduit, you could have easily used Tech-cable.
This conduit had the look that I wanted so went with hit. It was cheap and easy to install. Thanks so much for watching.
Is it 18 inches vertically?
Hi Lam, The downrod I used for the can is 12inches vertically from the ceiling. It's a 12 inch downrod. Is that what you are asking?
✅💜✅
FYI, this fan moves little or NO AIR. Looks nice !! Not very practical for its purpose.
Do you have a shopping list for the parts you need? Number and type gof elbows, switches, boxes etc assuming I want to replicate your build exactly?
What kind of paint did you use to paint the PVC conduit?
I used black krylon spray paint.
