OMG, Aidan it's crazy how much Aidan looked like you on the bike. I had to go back to the start of the video to get clarification on who's who during that ride, lol.
Wow, watching the CR come sooo close to losing traction at the last instant off some of the jumps made me nervous! You guys rock; really enjoyed watching, thanks for making this. I own and ride an 84 CR500 (first year/air cooled) it’s a workout, always makes my hands numb, and is hard on the wrists. Much respect to you guys 👍
I have a 94 CR500 in a 2003 CR125 chassis. put it together in 2009. I've ridden a couple of KX500's and several CR500's. the KX has a powervalve but the CR500 doesn't need one. it has plenty of low and mid.
Great video AJ! Love all the great camera angles of the test runs. It’s like 360 degree view. The Honda looked like the better bike to control! Great job! Thanks AJ and camera man Cam! 👍
I have '89 CR 250 and it is so plush compared to my 2018 KX250F. There is something about those late 80's and early 90's two strokes that are soooo comfortable to ride. It feels like you're in a fighter jet cockpit.
I have a 97 cr 500 and I’m a decent rider, when people ride with me and they are on brand new betas/husky’s/KTM’s it makes them reconsider how important it is that they have the latest and greatest. But it’s definitely not quite as easy when riding a beast like a 500 2 stroke.
Please do a 500 vs. 450 comparison! I also noticed that neither you nor Aiden let your knees get forward of the footpegs like, ever, when you were standing. Thing of beauty.
@@jonruger I have seen that! I want to see AJ do the same comparison and hear his thoughts on how they stack up against each other. I would love to see it be done with a 2020 or newer CR500AF vs. same year range of CRF450
Loving the content, especially bike comparisons like this and the pro versus am stuff. You’ll have to ride the Stark Varg and compare it to your Alta and a 450 when you get a chance.
Bro thanks again for the class that Friday it was amazing! Learned so much I was 57 on the yz 125 Ps: the Sunday after Glendale motoland had some SICK lines with no wind lol Ironic that the wind sucked on Friday and the lines didn’t develop.
as someone who was around back in the day we were trying to de-tune them to where they did not hit so hard power wise. No one was saying I wish my 500 had a little more power. Also everyone usually turned faster lap times on a 250 two stroke rather than the open or I did anyway. and the vibrations on those things would rattle your teeth.
AJ, Next time your in AZ, you may have to contact BVC Offroad in Tucson. They build high quality conversion kits to make your 450 into a Big wheel bike using ATC wheels. No joke! Maybe one of their customers will volunteer their big wheels for a comparo.
Aj next time you come to the Granby Compound in NY. I'll let you test ride my Service Honda CR500AF. . You would love it. Lighter than a 250f ans way faster than a 450 4puke.
Imagine being peppered by 20 of these things if you didn’t get a good jump out of the gate… been there done that many moons ago and wouldn’t change it for the world. This made me really miss racing my 89’ CR500. Great job! 👍🏻
Hahahaha!! You guys are so winded after a few laps!! I ride a 93 500 in the dez and absolutely love it…yeah, the ergos are way outdated, but they still turn pretty good and man, they go like hell!! Love that big bore torque!! Great video! 🤙🏼
Love the 500s! Im very close to finishing my service honda 500 build when its done Id love to let you test ride it too, suspension will be way soft for you im sure but should be a clean enough bike worthy of you ahahah im in san diego
Nothing can prepare you for the brut force of these hyper 2 stroke machines, let them loose and they seem intent on killing you! Ear to ear smiles from start to finish! Trust me when you’re finished you’re done - taking your helmet off is hard work! When compared to my later enduro race bike the KTM 530 XCR-W which was a brutal 4t, was actually a predictable kind of tame compared to these next level machines. I think we were either dumber or tougher in those days - the jury’s out on that score 🤣
Ha, I got confused because y'all switched helmets, and he rides like you. You must love your Black Rifle Coffee Helmet. Also, amazing content, hoping you can have an awesome supercross season. Keep up the good work!
Really goes to show how much of a racer Travis is. People always put him into that freestyle dare devil box, but that man is as serious of an outdoor and indoor champ as you will find.
@@SEILLC i don't know what you are talking about. Travis is a 125 supercross and motocross champion, he is a mxon winner and he raced straight rythm twice on a 500 while being basically a cripple
So you were riding *Kyle Chisholm & Grant Langston's 500s LOL* Nobody's earned the *(8)* yet right? I know AC chose Ivan tedesco's former number 9 but I don't think anyone's chosen the 8 since Langston's retirement
Sorry for this stupid question I'm about to ask you AJ, but you said you'd put Charlie's link below and all I'm seeing is the Moto academy, one with you and your girl, and Cam, none of these have anything to do with the 500's or his other cool bikes you reference in the video. Is Charlie AKA (Cam)? Sorry it's been a long week and it's not over yet. Great video BTW

OMG, Aidan it's crazy how much Aidan looked like you on the bike. I had to go back to the start of the video to get clarification on who's who during that ride, lol.
Haha, yes, tall AJ looked more AJ then short AJ. Did I coin this first, AJ is now a adjective:) "well done mate, you look AJ"
Adians a bit taller and his voice is lot the same but other than that he's the same with that gear on lol
Did u guys even get out of 3rd gear
Yz125 and yz250 2 stroke next
Man, Those 500's are just Beasts !!
Ahhh, the sweet sound of some big bore, 2 strokes eating!!! 🎶 to my ears.
I wonder if any one has a mx prepped honda XR650. Or a Maico 700? Those might be interesting to AJ. Maybe something with conventional forks....
Really enjoy the content, keep up the good work Aj

it's so plush because the suspension springs are all punched out and oils haven't been serviced.
can make the newer one softer
also the aluminum frames are more rigid then the older steel ones

The KX500 always felt funky to me the CR500 screamed on a whole new level they were hands down the nastiest of the open class bikes.

AJ LMK when you come to Florida.. we can do a Cr500 vs a Cr500 AF electric start. At Tampa mx And I got a modern 450/300 too

Yeah it was more the "i ride a 500" thing. My yz250 was plenty fast enough in 97 :)
My 97 hardly vibrates compared to most 250’s I’ve owned over the years.
@@straighttimestirrups I had a 86 CR500 quickly went back to a 250. when I could afford it.
"You could do a back flip, just by accident." That kinda sums it up right there. It seems like too much.

You need to find someone in the states with a BRC 500 ktm, all modern tech 2 stroke.
Need to ride these bikes on a track with some traction. A nice sand track somewhere will be more fun.

There is no “power band” on a 500, it’s just pure insanity from bottom to top.
