- With the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple replaced the traditional mute switch with a new multi-function Action Button. The button can be assigned to perform a number of tasks, ranging from activating the flashlight to turning on the camera. Perhaps the most useful way to use the Action Button is with Shortcuts, because the single button can perform more than one action at once or bring up a selection of tools.

Wish Apple would just add a double click option, and another for holding for 3 seconds or more. Would instantly make the button 3x as useful and easily customized.

Yeah just bought my I phone 15 pro yesterday always had an iPhone but I went from a 12 pro it’s a big difference the video was great I’ve subscribed I’ll look out for more also purchased a I watch ultra 2 so any tutorial on that would help 👍

Don't forget about enabling the double and tripple back tap in accessibility settings to add more "hotkeys" for shortcuts.

@@marg8315 to enable back tap, go to...
Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap
It will give you options for Double Tap and Triple Tap. When you choose one, it will show a long list of choices you can set it to. At the bottom are any shortcuts you already made.

Is there any way to combine the shortcut folder with the orientation shortcut? I know I can just create a list, but the folder looks so much better. I've only been able to make it go into the shortcut folder within the app.
Yes just create the orientation shortcut and put it in the folder. You can open the orientation shortcut to see how it works and tailor it to your needs.
I am glad I found your video and found the mutlibutton but i cant set it up in this junggle of IOS code did I perhaps miss the part where you show where to put your shortcuts in the mutl button?

Apple needs to give the option of how long you have to hold it for. In my experience it seems like you have to hold it for too long for it to be crazy useful. That and allowing us to double press for a second action

But the way, You‘ve explained it, it’s possible to open EVERY SHORTCUT via this Shortcuts-Folder.

I’m trying to follow the steps for multi button but once installed seems it only opens the camera for me, I can’t set up any other shortcuts thereafter. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

It's cool but that button is not really accessible in portrait orientation. Much better position would be below the power button imo.

Multibutton isn’t working for me. Tells me “Make sure a valid shortcut is selected in the Run Shortcut action.” Don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Apple should let third party app developers make their own shortcuts for it, would also be cool to see more options (i.e. Screen Recording, Home, Shazam)
It’s so easy to map anything to the button…they don’t really have to. Just make a shortcut for it.
@@JJohnson313 Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t do it, not everyone is going to be a tech wiz and automatically know how to somehow set up screen recording using shortcuts from the action button, it’s just more easier to have it as an option you can easily change to.
Walkie Talkie should be a top level action.
I am not very sure about the action button. I guess the idea is good and will be better but, It can be pressed accidentally very easily, and that's something that annoys me. I guess it could have been an inner button.

I really want a shortcut that deletes the last photo/screenshot in my photo library for when you take a quick photo that you just need to share and you know won't need ever again. So they no longer take up your storage, or you no longer need to go on a storage-freeing spree.
you can just set the action button as a command to screenshot, copy and delete. than you can just send it and it will already be deleted

Create a shortcut. Just type in “take video”. Save that. Set action but to that shortcut. Super easy

I don’t know about that example for the multi button. I don’t think it’s designed for you to do one thing really quickly in order for you to quickly jump into a second thing. Remember that technology supposed to help us, but that just sounds like a disaster for anxiety.
It looks more like the Pro Max ? because the Pro phones have gotten smaller this year I thought. Though the video content would be the same.

Can’t they make any of the buttons now an action button I would probably make the power button, the action button and the actual action button the power button
Power button is actually more like a LOCK button... since people use that more often it is logical that do be more accessible.
The only issue I can find for now is haptic touch. When you silence your phone without using shortcuts, you feel two different haptic touches for silencing and unsilencing. But when you use shortcuts, you don't feel this difference, and the haptic touch is the same. This can be problematic when you're trying to silence your phone while it's in your pocket.
Can’t agree more , the workaround I can think of for now is add a Vibration Device node right after toggling the Silent Mode, its not the same as the haptic touches, but at least now I can tell if I activate the right shortcut😂
like harry said i just added a check if silent mode is on, and if it’s on for it to vibrate the device.
It definitely doesn’t feel as cool as the default vibration but it’s perfectly functional.
@@harry1931pt Ya, that's an excellent workaround. The only downside is you can't determine if you silenced or unsilenced the phone without seeing the screen itself as the vibrations are the same

a good suggestion for you would be to press the action button to start the fitness app
There's only ONE slight problem with getting all of these features out of the Action Button. It assumes that you're using/playing with your iPhone 17 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to remain proficient in all of these features. In the past, I've always purchased the Pro version of an iPhone. This video convinced me to get the non-Pro version with the traditional silent switch. Thank you for making this terrific video.
