The outer end may be seized and require removal of the whole assembly from the steering rack. Original assemblies on E39 that have been subject to winter roads for 20 years may require brutal bench disassembly, then cleaning and re-tapping of threads. If it takes brutal pipe wrench disassembly, just to install new boots, you may as well buy new assemblies. Treat with anti-seize upon final assembly and don't over-torque.

I would apply copper grease with a brush, not from a spray-can. Cheaper and less messy. Otherwise, great video!
