      I prefer to use terra cotta pots for all of my succulents. Terra cotta pots will GREATLY help with overwatering as they are porous, allowing water to evaporate through the pot, making the soil dry faster. And aside, they are hella cheap and look nice 😂 hope this helps!

    I just had my first horror story with mealy bugs and I could not save my two foot long, 10 inch wide string of bananas. I killed them on the string of pearls by using alcohol and rinsing them off; however, I really need urgent advice on how to get neem oil off of the pearls (one of them) and the other, due to rinsing so much to rid the mealy bugs, the pearls are rotting. I am scared to death to loose these . What are my options here. Should I just let the plant dry out? and the one with neem oil on it, I have been washing with soapy alcohol water-letting it sit five minutes-and rinsing off but the pearls still feel sticky. Will this prevent the plant from growing? What can I do?

      That's a good point. I think it's because we always think of succulents as desert plants but String of Pearls, in particular, need protection from intense heat or at least direct sunlight. How are they doing in the Arizona heat?

    • @beavisnsluthead
      @beavisnsluthead 3 года назад

      Same!! I'm thinking it's maintaining too much moisture in it's nursery pot. I'm going to try replanting it today in a small terracotta pot. I don't know what else to do! It's sad seeing the beads on top mushy, wrinkled. I haven't been watering it at all but it's still holding onto that water and not drying out. It's so frustrating because it's a beautiful plant and I don't want to kill her. :(

    • @succulentplantcare373
      @succulentplantcare373  3 года назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply! Is it getting too much sun and burning? If it is, try moving it someplace where there’s less direct sun. Also, is the pot too deep? Maybe there’s too much soil in the pot and that’s why it’s retaining water. Did you use a fast draining soil? I’ll try to get some healthy stem cuttings and replant elsewhere just in case...

  • @vanessag9712

    What can I do to help my string of pearls to recover from direct heat they shriveled:(

    • @succulentplantcare373
      @succulentplantcare373  3 года назад +2

      I would move it away from direct sun right away. A bright location but protected from direct sunlight would be better. The shriveled part may recover after watering if it’s just dehydrated. But if they’re sunburned and shriveled that area might not recover. You can take cuttings of healthy parts and replant. The stems should root in a few weeks. Good luck!!

    • @succulentplantcare373
      @succulentplantcare373  3 года назад

      Hi, I'm not too familiar with foot candle measurements so I don't know how to answer your question. Afternoon sun is usually ok for my succulents outdoors, but they need to be acclimated to the heat first. Mature plants usually do better than baby plants. Definitely not for cuttings though. My suggestion is, once you see brown spots or sunburn spots, move them right away to a less sunny area. Good luck!

    I have a very small string of pearls and each time a new bead comes in it turns brown before it even gets the chance to start growing. I've been trying to find what I can do to make it grow without dying and haven't figured it out. I've moved it closer to a window and tried watering more and watering less.
