    Hi.
I'm 46, polish and remember Turoń.
My grandmother lived in a small village in Kurpie area and I was visiting (I was about 9) about a week before the holidays and at about 5 p.m. They came.
A devil, an angel, two helpers and Him.
About 7feet tall, mouth (moved by a string) menacingly clapping, smelled like attic.
They sang a folk song and got rewarded with a few coins.
That was it and I will never forget it.

Majority of Polish victims weren't Jews because as Geography Now said Jewish stated only 10% of population coz we weren't like France sending Jews to railways. Polish Underground was punishing those who were betraying them to Nazis. We have most people awarded with "Just among nations". You can see it when you walk in Yad Vashem Olive Tree Alley even though Poland was the only country in which for hiding a Jew Nazis demanded punishment of death. Most victims of Nazis were Slavs.

A name day is a day on which a saint of a given name is remembered in the church. Although people nowadays are not as religious as they used to be, the tradition is still going strong.
So, for example, on March 19 , the church celebrates the memory of St Joseph, so men who were given the name Joseph on their baptism celebrate on that day, and the celebrations look very similar to birthday celebrations, gifts, party, family and friends.
Name days are much more popular with adults, children often don't even know when their name day is.
It is common for the church to have more than one saint with a particular name, Veronica is for example on January 13, February 4 , May 17 and July 9, so it is assumed that one celebrates their name day on the first date after their birthday. I was born in October so the closest date after my birthday is January 13 and that is when I celebrate my name day.
Of course there are exceptions, some saints are much more 'popular' and well-known than others. For example, Sophie may celebrate on April 30, May 15, September 2, September 18, September 23, September 30 and December 18 but most Sophies celebrate on May 15, on Cold Sophie (so called because even though it has been warm for a long time then very often frosts return for a day or two). Because this is when the most famous Sophie is remembered.
Another thing is also the huge number of proverbs and sayings associated with name days, but I may leave that alone.

One more thing. Hungary gave us all their ammunition in 1920 when Soviet russia invaded us. It played huge role in being capable of defending Warsaw and smashing soviet hordes. However their lack of support towards Ukraine and its defence grow concern us, the Poles, and its sad that now we cannot rely on mutual support. Hope it will change soon. We still treat Hungarians as our brothers, but their politics is close to being hostile towards our interests and safety from f russia

      @p.f.5718 4 месяца назад

@@navynavy1449 ok , now you have scared me. I instantly read a lot of commentary’s and articles about pro russian politicians .
You are right the FPÖ fraction is pro Russian and a lot worse things more. And a lot of austrian business representatives are blind eyed or more likely money grabbing. The famous female minister who danced on her own marriage with putin has to leave Austria - first I think to France, then to Russia.
Two former chancellors, who worked with russian businesses were forced to quitt.
The most politicians and businessmen in Austria now are aware not to be in friendship with putin, because the majority of the Austrians are furious and scared about the war and Putin.
Unfortunately the right wing party FPÖ is as all parties like them very clever and know how to gain power and influence over not so clever citizens.
And the russian propaganda is also very mighty in Europe e.g. a friend of mine mentioned there were organized kidnappings in Ukraine of children’s to take organs from them - I was baffled.
It seems the russian opposition in Austria is strong and therefore the russian foreigners in Austria clearly vote for the opposition and have good relations to the austrian government.
The last federal elections showed the FPÖ didn’t gain that amount of votes as they hoped - fortunately. But Kickl is very dangerous he is a real bird catcher.
So I hope with you there is no such stupidness - the good thing is, the Austrians don’t like changes.

"people vs government" has unfortunately changed, because most ordinary people in Russia support war (or "special operation" - as they call it at home), get excited about the progress of their troops in Ukraine, and often support scaring their neighbors, including Poland, with the use of nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, this severely damaged interpersonal relationships for years. But Russians who do not support Putin still live in Poland and no one holds any grudge against them
