I never watched The Mighty Ducks movie, I was never anywhere nearly as interested in live-action Disney as I was the animated stuff. But I do remember watching one episode of the cartoon, and since I never watched the movie, I couldn't have cared less how very loosely the cartoon was based off of it. I still thought it was really dumb, though.
Yeah--I suspect its short run was due more to the referenced conflict of vision between the folks producing the show. Younger kids didn't know what to think of it, a lot of older kids avoided it 'cause it was a cartoon and they were trying to distance themselves from that sort of things...and adults just didn't know what they were missing. I watched it in HS and enjoyed the heck out of it.
Re: The Mighty Ducks animated series, the show was based on the NHL's Mighty Ducks Of Anaheim's Mascot, Wildwing, rather than the original youth hockey themed movies.
Hey at least that explains why the kids from the movie was it in the show. As a kid watching that show myself I was highly disappointed it confused as to where the mighty ducks was.
But the team name was directly based off the movies and was owned by Disney. That's why they changed the name to the Ducks after Disney sold and changed the logo for some time. All three ducks franchises are directly related.
I think the show was ahead of its time. There are moments I didn't get as a kid and now find funny. I've heard some fans say they felt like Freakazoid was a prototype for memes and a clean version of Deadpool! 😅😅😅😂😂😂

I can’t believe the cartoon aired just before the Fox Kids, UPN or Kids WB block!
Freakazoid is definitely the cartoon-equivalent of a cult classic. If it suffered from anything it was that Spielberg-Warner flooded the zone (so to speak) with their content.
I remember the mighty ducks cartoon, the incredible hulk and freakazoid! Fun fact Tim curry and the late Tony jay voice 2 of the antagonists in the mighty ducks cartoon!
I did not see the incredible hulk till about a decade ago. I watched Mighty Ducks at the time, but did not appreciate Tony Jay and Tim Curry, Clancy Brown, and Frank Welker. Freakazoid was amazing
When we talk about 90s animation nowadays, we usually talk about the Iron Giant, Family Guy because it's still running, The Simpsons because of how much it sucks now, Disney's renaissance era (remember when Disney was actually great?), and the DCAU being the model for mature and well-written animation. There's actually a lot of stuff from the 1987-2006 golden age of animation that's been lost to the sands of time
I think I've seen a couple of episodes dad had on tape of Mighty Ducks and Incredible Hulk, but I know for certain I've seen all the episodes of Freakazoid, as I have the full series on DVD. But found all of these online, no matter if it here on RUclips, Internet Archives, or for a couple of them, other online sites. That Van-Pires just feels like cheesy fun, that's for sure. Anyways, thank you, enjoyed this.
The Mighty Duck's cartoon was interesting, but it was kind of a Biker Mice from mars concept. Kinda odd they didn't do a Duckwing duck, Talespin, or Goof troop take, with anthro duck kids or cast based on the films.
Ironically Bruce Timm wanted Freakazoid to have a darker, grittier tone, but as you said Spielberg overruled him🤡. This led Timm to create the mesmerizing Batman the Animated series🦹♀️🤩!
Is it strange to say one of the oddest things I remember about the Mighty Ducks Cartoon was that the Goalie was also the Captain? A first for me at the time. :)
I remember all of these. But I never got a chance to watch Nightmare Ned or Tex Avery short of commercials and promos. Mainly because they would always come on at times where I was either still asleep or on my way to school. From the sounds of it I dodged a bullet with the Tex Avery show.
Freakazoid was the only cartoon on this list that I liked. there was a lot of jokes that had me laughing. Freakazoid supposed to be a wacky and zaney character but there were characters that did stuff so stupid that even Freakazoid was questioning it. like when he hired a new butler to serve him. Butler: I slave away without end and never once had a vacation! Freakazoid: What do you mean? It's your first day here! Then the episode of an alien landing on Earth with an important mission, but can't remember what that mission is. this alien was so stupid that even Freakazoid's patience was being tested. what was this important mission? to tell the Earth's protectors about an asteroid on its way to Earth. they look up... and it's already entering the atmosphere... and the episode just ends. I couldn't stop laughing. XD
Surprisingly but also happily, Freakazoid is the only show I'd ever seen from this list. I think the series was solid overall, though the conflicting visions for the series was bound to make it hard to snag a kid audience; they either want a cool hero like Batman, or a goofy protagonist like P&B or Animaniacs. (The Tick cartoon lasted three seasons, but it had garnered an audience first as a comic, and I think it 'picked a lane' a bit more.) I was in HS at the time and liked the mix, but even then, I had to rely on context to get a lot of the more political/social jokes. ("Rush Limbaugh has become a bleeding heart liberal! ...Euro Disney is packed?! Cold fusion works!? There's no more Chevy Chase movies?! --The world IS a better place!") I can understand why it ultimately didn't have a long lifespan, but I was thrilled to find the two short seasons on DVD. Watching it post-college, I think it suffered mostly from being made in a time when cartoons (aside from a few like Beavis and Butthead) were still largely aimed at kids. P&B, Tiny Toons, and Animaniacs worked because they were tailored for kids with a lot of fun stuff for an older audience sprinkled in...and the writing wasn't dumbed down in general. Hard to go wrong with fun, wacky, often self-aware characters who could do slapstick while throwing in a humorous aside about a societal trend. Freakazoid just had more of the latter than the former, while airing on a channel and at a time that was meant for school-age kids. I need to revisit it to be sure there was enough quality comedy (I remember a lot of episodes seeming a bit languid and kinda 'meh', with a few gems scattered throughout) but I think this show deserves a strong cult following if it doesn't already have one.
I don't think anyone expecting a TV show adaptation of "The Mighty Ducks" when we heard about the TV show. It was pretty clear about what it was from the point of it's announcement. It actually looked like a really cool idea (like Ninja Turtles with extreme Hockey). But it just ended up being mostly boring lol
Some of these had redeemable aspects. Honestly, there's probably a ton of hidden gems from that time, for no actual fault of their own, there was just so much great stuff being put out back then.
I remember being nine years old and seeing the ad for the "Mighty Ducks" cartoon and thinking, "That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen." In a generation of Ninja Turtles and Street Sharks, ducks were apparently where I drew the line.
I remember a couple of these, the best among them for me, was The Mighty Ducks and ironically I never associated them with the movie. I enjoyed it for what it was worth and each of the characters was awesome to see on the screen. It is a shame it only got such a low ratings and having watched all three movies of the Hockey movies, I can safely say, I enjoy the second one the best of them.
I'm surprised you released this video a day early, Review Team!😂 I'm also surprised that your video isn't an hour old yet, & it has over 600 views at this time. But less than 100 likes, what's up with that?!😮
How can you say the Mighty Ducks failed? Disney sponsored the shit out of the team and it worked. That’s why they made the cartoon series and the movies.
I have been a fan of Tex Avery, since as a small child, I enjoyed watch the cartoons he created, in particular "Screwy Squirrel". This may be why I never liked "The Wacky World of Tex Avery" which came out in 1997, a full seventeen years after Tex Avery had passed on. I'm not sure who thought this show was a good idea, but I found it an insult to the memory of the legendary cartoonist.
I rather enjoyed Mighty Ducks. I hadn't seen the movies and wasn't even a hockey fan at the time but hey, anthropomorphic action heroes in the same vein as SWAT Kats. For a toy line tie-in, Dragon Flyz sure didn't skimp on the drama. I mean damn, that opening theme legit sent shivers down my spine as a kid (Before the Earth goes dark and dies, the only hope is in the skiiiies"). Normally only Japanimation could provide high stakes drama of that ilk (yes I still use that ancient term, as I'm old school like that).
I saw and enjoyed most of these as a kid (even Wacky World of Tex Avery, don't hit me). However Van Pires passed me by because the character designs were terrifying.

There's actually a lot of stuff from the 1987-2006 golden age of animation that's been lost to the sands of time
Well written comment
I think I've seen a couple of episodes dad had on tape of Mighty Ducks and Incredible Hulk, but I know for certain I've seen all the episodes of Freakazoid, as I have the full series on DVD. But found all of these online, no matter if it here on RUclips, Internet Archives, or for a couple of them, other online sites. That Van-Pires just feels like cheesy fun, that's for sure. Anyways, thank you, enjoyed this.
I always viewed the Mighty Ducks cartoon as a gross amalgamation between the original movies & "Howard the Duck".
Yup! I also saw it like that 😂
The Mighty Duck's cartoon was interesting,
but it was kind of a Biker Mice from mars concept.
Kinda odd they didn't do a Duckwing duck, Talespin, or Goof troop take,
with anthro duck kids or cast based on the films.
I thought the Mighty Ducks cartoon was more based on the mascot of the real Hockey team in Anaheim.
YES! That's what I thought too, given that there was a character named Wild Wing.
They need to put Freakazoid in MultiVersus.
Ironically Bruce Timm wanted Freakazoid to have a darker, grittier tone, but as you said Spielberg overruled him🤡. This led Timm to create the mesmerizing Batman the Animated series🦹♀️🤩!
Nightmare Ned was such a gem. I loved playing the game 🥲
I HATED that Tex Avery cartoon, I couldn't switch the channel fast enough when it came on.
XD
The only one of these shows I remember and still love to this day is Freakazoid
Always a treat to see these vids in my notifications
We love hearing that! Thank you for watching and for commenting too!
Freakazoid was amazing!
I don't think anyone expecting a TV show adaptation of "The Mighty Ducks" when we heard about the TV show. It was pretty clear about what it was from the point of it's announcement. It actually looked like a really cool idea (like Ninja Turtles with extreme Hockey). But it just ended up being mostly boring lol
the video is called "cartoon disasters" but the thumbnail is Freakazoid and I am *so* mad XD
Incredible Hulk, Mighty Ducks, Dragon Flys and Freakazoid are the best ones from this video.
Especially if you are into Waifu characters.
Some of these had redeemable aspects. Honestly, there's probably a ton of hidden gems from that time, for no actual fault of their own, there was just so much great stuff being put out back then.
Wow, I absolutely forgot about Mighty Ducks cartoon
Oh wow, there's some real nostalgia with this one...
I remember being nine years old and seeing the ad for the "Mighty Ducks" cartoon and thinking, "That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen." In a generation of Ninja Turtles and Street Sharks, ducks were apparently where I drew the line.
Freakazoid is really funny. It was on tubi but now it's gone
You can get it on YT
@jamesstutz-c5o yeah no thanks.
@@randomreviews4278I agree. 😀👍
I might know a site for it 🤫
I'm not sure how easy it is to find these days, but I was happy (and surprised) to find both seasons on DVD a decade or so ago.
But less than 100 likes, what's up with that?!😮
Why this time couldn't last I miss everything about this time
This is such a great channel, thank you!
Thank you SO much!
I loved Hulk, Mighty Ducks, and Freakazoid growing up but Nightmare Ned gave me anxiety attacks.
Its rare for me to not have heard of things from the 90s, but theres 3 shows here i never heard of.
How can you say the Mighty Ducks failed?
Disney sponsored the shit out of the team and it worked.
That’s why they made the cartoon series and the movies.
Freakazoid was a classic and will never be forgotten..I need DVD versions of all of these cartoons
I loved Dragon Flyz as a kid. I wanted to have those dragons as toys
12:48 wait a damn minute I loved the Mighty Ducks cartoon
I have been a fan of Tex Avery, since as a small child, I enjoyed watch the cartoons he created, in particular "Screwy Squirrel". This may be why I never liked "The Wacky World of Tex Avery" which came out in 1997, a full seventeen years after Tex Avery had passed on. I'm not sure who thought this show was a good idea, but I found it an insult to the memory of the legendary cartoonist.
Fam…I thought you said Paul Rudd, I was mind blown thinking Ant Man was once Freakazoid 😂😂😂
Thats crazy I was remembering the dragonflyz toy I had but couldn't remember the name. Thanks fam
I saw and enjoyed most of these as a kid (even Wacky World of Tex Avery, don't hit me). However Van Pires passed me by because the character designs were terrifying.
Freakazoid was brilliant, tex averey was hilarious and mighty ducks was pretty decent to watch while waiting to watch gargoyles.
Freakazoid! I loved that one. Also, unless I missed it, still waiting for a Project G.K.R. (geeker) episode ;)
Oh we did! It might be in the cartoon video before this one. Thanks for watching and for commenting too!
I mean... The Mighty Ducks had Tony Jay AND Tim Curry in its voice cast. I'll watch any animation their voices are involved in.
Freakazoid was an adult animated sitcom.
Can't believe some think its a cartoon
Mighty Ducks and Freakzoid. Those are the ones I remember. Mighty Ducks was just bizarre, but Freakzoid was a good time, even if some of the references flew over my head back then.
