I am so disappointed about what happened to all the Retro Nick programming blocks, they could have been airing it into one separate channel with some forgotten shows mixed in instead of spamming with just one or two shows such as currently “Spongebob” and “Henry Danger”. ☹️

I wish the Nick Rewind block was still around. All Teen Nick is now is 24/7 Henry Danger. What they should have done is turn the entire channel into Nick Rewind. As in, Nick's answer to Boomerang, which has recently recovered from its own network decay.

This block kind of always seemed on autopilot because it kept showing the stuff and production order and we never really knew what other stuff would come about and they would rarely air stuff like game shows which is why it really got stagnant.
I live for the game shows and now that Brainsurge is turning 15, it might be a good trend to bring shows like that back.

This was so well put together!! I had a 90's Tv stream on facebook during the height of covid that played all old content and commercials from Nickelodeon, MTV and Disney. Rarely got shutdown, but occasionally would (Disney were beasts with basically anything). Had such a great movement going with over 40k followers, several dozen regulars in the chats and a strong bonding experience....and then without warning they pulled the plug on us. It was such a huge let down. The reality was these companies would rather ban it all if they can't milk it more. They already made their big advertisement money off of us when it was on cable in the 90's and 00's. We provided the ratings and they charged an arm and a leg to have ads on their channels. And they made a FORTUNE in advertising. Just as it was then, they still only care about the same thing. However, it's a legacy viewership now. They already did the hard work in their eyes, so now they just mention 90's and nostalgia and get their quick money grabs. They don't want to put any money towards it anymore. The well dried up. That's why its up to us to preserve history and share and acquire all the content we can!!!

The Splat/NickSplat was easily my favourite version of the block. Yes, it had its auto-pilot moments, but it went way further than it had any right to. It was worth waking up at 7am to catch the last 4 hours since I had to stream it as a UK resident. It's a shame we never got our own version of it (outside of a website featuring clips of select shows.) especially since Nick UK had plenty of its own elements in the '90s/2000s that would have been nice to revisit.

The schedule was really a disappointment later on in the block. It essentially just became Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, and Rocko every single night. CatDog, Beavers, and others got shafted. NickRewind brought in early 2000's content but didn't do much with it and went back to the same previous schedule of 90s stuff. It just turned into advertisement for Paramount+ with little interstitials saying "find more at Paramount+" ALL the time.
Really sucks because I loved watching all the old shows. And would've especially loved if they added TMNT '87 and 03 to the mix. Really just makes me wish they fixed Nicktoons Network and made it a 24/7 channel for 90s and 2000s shows instead of being a dumping ground for SpongeBob reruns and new shows they don't like to promote.

This video is so good and informative, I feel like this video detailing the downfall of 90s are all that/The Splat/Nick rewind makes me realize that a lot of nick channels and blocks all kinda start and end the same way, starting with a lot of potential with a set goal in mind, but eventually falling apart due to it getting very repetitive and lacking any sort of variety in its programming. Like the same thing happened to The N near the end of its run, it happened to NickGas, and it's definitely happened to TeenNick and NickToons. Just shows that nickelodeon doesn't rlly know how to run channels like these without giving up midway through their runs.
Anyway, thank you! Very good video I cannot wait to see more I love hearing about nickelodeon history and trivia

Hey man, just got recommended your channel. You’re going places, your editing and audio quality are both fantastic!! I make similar content and I think you put it a bit better than even I did in my nicktoons video, Nickelodeon killed their own nostalgia by only relying on SpongeBob. The new era of kids are only nostalgic for SpongeBob because that’s all they’ve seen, while us older kids at heart are the only people willing to tune in to these “retro” blocks.
Fantastic work and research though man, I’m definitely subscribing! Keep it up!

PSA FOR NICKELODEON: nostalgia for the network could have been a wonderful thing... However... I don't think a single person in charge knows how to handle a nostalgia block of programming at all.
Due to the fact that you seem to be just trying to throw things together and call it nostalgia. You do realize... Friends notice that when One nostalgia attempt is starting to fail (like '90s block.) you just give it a new name... Followed by you doing a bit of shoveling around with the shows to make it seem like whatever you've named the particular '90s nostalgia program at the time is new and improved... When it's really not. How about instead of openly repeating the same seasons of all that over and over and over... You add a show... Such as one of my personal favorites growing up... Cousin Skeeter. (Premiered in 1998.) Even more nostalgic... You could choose salute your shorts. (Premiered in 1991.)
NOPE! Instead you'd rather revamp things and add Old iCarly episodes. 😤.
Don't get a true '90s fan all hyped up... When you know eventually you're either going to cancel the programming... Or you know that the plan all along is not to stay 90s formatted and your perfectly prepared to start adding those iCarly episodes.
It is my opinion that y'all do all this big time advertising about bringing back 90s shows... Is because y'all are fully aware how many viewers will jump at the chance to reminisce... So you get them hooked... Then do your total revamp.😤😤🌄

Will let me give you a etymology lesson and since your an american and most Americans are stupid and dumb mostly because of the crappy school system that this county has i will tell you u see the word nostalgia was coined in 1688 by Johannes Hofer in his dissertation in Basel. The word nostalgia was compound of the ancient Greek words nostos (return home) and algia (longing) and at that time the word had a very different meaning then the one we know today you see the term "nostalgia" originally referred to the homesickness felt by Swiss mercenaries at the time and Hofer introduced nostalgia or mal du pays "homesickness" for the condition also known as mal du Suisse "Swiss illness", because of its frequent occurrence in Swiss mercenaries who in the plains of Switzerland were pining for their landscapes. Symptoms were also thought to include fainting, high fever, and death.English homesickness is a loan translation of nostalgia. Sir Joseph Banks used the word in his journal during the first voyage of Captain Cook. On 3 September 1770 he stated that the sailors "were now pretty far gone with the longing for home which the Physicians have gone so far as to esteem a disease under the name of Nostalgia", but his journal was not published in his lifetime. Cases resulting in death were known and soldiers were sometimes successfully treated by being discharged and sent home. Receiving a diagnosis was, however, generally regarded as an insult.
In the eighteenth century, scientists were looking for a locus of nostalgia, a nostalgic bone. By the 1850s nostalgia was losing its status as a particular disease and coming to be seen rather as a symptom or stage of a pathological process. It was considered as a form of melancholia and a predisposing condition among suicides. Nostalgia was, however, still diagnosed among soldiers as late as the American Civil War. By the 1870s interest in nostalgia as a medical category had almost completely vanished.

I always find 90s Nick nostalgia from the late 2000s and early 2010s to be rather interesting as I was there to see all of it. I grew up on 2000s and early 2010s Nick but remember seeing people online talk about how great Nick was in the 90s and how bad the shows currently on the network were at the time, like Fanboy and chum chum, Icarly, and Bug Time Rush. It was common to see people beg f9r 90s Nick to come back through Facebook groups and even on the Nick message boards. It's so interesting to me as now my era of Nick is nostalgic. So whatever people my age brag about my era being peak Nick and tgat the new stuff sucks, I just laugh because people were saying that with the same stuff we grew up with.

I remember watching 90s All That back when it was still semi recent, around the year of 2013. I watched it constantly until I realized how repeatable the block was. I enjoyed of how the later years tried to be a bit more diverse, with them eventually adding shows and specials that hadn't aired in decades and even airing 2000s shows towards the end of its life. I had already watched most of the shows that aired on the block previously on Nicktoons and The N, which would air reruns of 90s Kick shows usually late at night around 2010 to 2012 for Nicktoons channel, and The N would had the 90s shows apart of their regular schedule, airing in the afternoon.

At one point on The 90s Are All That, they ran a contest called 90s Cats Vs Dogs. I had seen them promoting it on their Tumblr account, and I had to do my submission over on Twitter. As a joke, I submitted a picture of my cat, Elena, who looked particularly derpy in her photo. I didn't look at my e-mails for a few hours, but they had e-mailed me shortly after I submitted her, pretty much begging me to use her picture and to sign their release forms ASAP. A few months later, they shared the winning pets' pics on TV (I believe there were twelve in total, but there may have been more), and Elena was aired during Ren & Stimpy with another cat and two dogs. One of my childhood dreams was to win any sort of contest through Nickelodeon, so even though I was a young adult at that point, mission accomplished! I still have the picture I took off of my TV screen when Elena was featured. She was in their final slot.

Oh how I loved The Splat. It was so nice when it came around since I was a late viewer of The 90s Are All That. I would catch that block on weekends and it would just constantly air Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Rocket Power, and CatDog. It was on autopilot because it would air bumpers for other programs that I was interested in watching.
I remember when The Splat debuted. I stayed up way later than I should have just to watch some of the shows. I remember the first thing that aired was a Pete & Pete short followed by You Can't Do That On Television. It was so cool to see some Nickelodeon history presented to us. There were other shows that I enjoyed that night.
I loved watching the show specific marathons they would host nearly every night. It was fun trying to guess what show they'd promote while also watching some old bumpers and old shows. I loved seeing the little factoids about the shows in the bottom corner. It was nice getting to watch shows that I've never seen before either like Keanan and Kel, As Told By Ginger, Roundhouse, Angry Beavers, and many others.
I'll never forget the event where during the 2016 election, they aired old episodes of Nick News regarding the election. I did fall asleep to them because I found it boring, but it was still cool to see Nick History presented in an unedited form.
The block was so cool. I would watch it pretty much every night. I think my favorite event was the Nickelodeon 25th anniversary special when they aired stuff like Kablam, Chalkzone, and Oh Yeah Cartoons. Such a great moment.
I feel like the block got worse once it changed to NickSplat. Not only did the identity worsen, in my opinion, but the block was on heavy autopilot airing the same stuff over and over (usually Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Rocko, and Doug). It got worse when it became NickRewind because it'd eventually just air Rugrats and Hey Arnold. I remember near the end of its lifespan when it only aired Hey Arnold. It was sad to see the block end like this.
It just sucks that there's no fun way to watch these classics anymore. TheSplat had so much personality. It was so much fun seeing the old and new bumpers. So much love was put into the block. Now with the rise of streaming, it's just not the same.
This video was a nice trip down memory lane. I really enjoyed your editing. You used theming akin to the blocks you talked about and I thought that was an amazing touch if detail! Great video!

I feel like crying because of the cancellation of the Rocko’s Modern Life movie, a victim of the Hey Arnold Jungle Movie coming so close but didn’t quite get the required ratings (and NO, Netflix DOES NOT count because it’s not live TV Nickelodeon). I think that along with the limited programming is what killed the nostalgia blocks. Rocko ended in a cliffhanger of getting lost in outer space and the movie was supposed to resolve it and bring him back, but the movie was cancelled for that Sponge!

It seems the problem with all these Nick nostalgia blocks was that the "creatives" behind them were always looking for what the bare minimum was to keep them active. After a year of success on TeenNick, the block should have moved to Nickelodeon proper to gain a wider audience. When 00s programming was slowly added, so too should the era-specific bumpers been added in rotation. And above all, with the massive back catalog of programming Nick had from both decades, the schedule shouldn't have been reliant on the same 5-6 shows.

I think nostalgic baiting is what the problem was.
Trying to make success with showing the classics and childhood love from the company is only going to last a few years because most people who grew up with that have long since moved past that, and their children would not care about it because they would not know how good it was since they were born before it.
This issue makes it harder from companies to adapt to newer and older audiences since times has changed and very few people would really care about what is in the past as most people want some in the modern age.
Nick had the idea on paper but after a decade and two years, it was getting boring because Nick in the modern times is doing badly as they do not have something new to give nor giving us something that we want. Now, Nick just airs all cartoons that were good but not nostalgic because these cartoons were or already on Nick, and Nick does not have any new shows to peek our interest as they forgotten lots of shows due to "SpongeBob Syndrome" affecting their showcases.
Overall, trying to nostalgic bait your audience is not helping in the long run because you cannot adapt to all audiences with something that is new or old.

By the 1870s interest in nostalgia as a medical category had almost completely vanished and By the turn of the twentieth century, nostalgia was no longer considered a psychiatric nosology. It was not until the 1920s that nostalgia transformed into the benign sentiment popularly understood today.

Nostalgia can be very strong in us 90s kids. But when it comes to actually rewatching these shows, it's different.
Every now and then I'll watch a few episodes of pete and pete (on youtube) and thats about it. That show still holds up. I get a nostalgia hit and dont watch again for a year.
At the end of the day these shows were made for kids. Kids don't really want to watch old stuff. And adults don't really want to watch kids shows with kid humor. No matter how much they loved it growing up.

With the recent layoffs happening at Paramount, I think this could be the end of secondary sister channels like MTV2, MTV Live, MTV Classic, Teennick, etc. The cable industry is rapidly losing customers to streaming services and audiences aren’t going to watch MTV2 watching tired reruns of Ridiculousness.

The silver age was ok but by the end of the '00s, they started airing SpongeBob & iCarly adnaseum. That would continue throughout the early 2010s & by 2013, the network's Bronze age ended and it's been nothing but awful ever since. Their obsession with Dan Schneider shows & SpongeBob ruined the network, as well as plain ol greed.
