A week in and I can’t stop playing! Even without the IRs. I started with all your stuff here and just used the stock cabs, I’m digging the 4x12 xxl v30 btw, and I’m getting killer tones! Just killing it. The helix sounds great even just with a ex zlx 12p! Frfr is on the way. I went US deluxe, placater, ubersonic and badonk. Killer. I recommend every newbie start here! Thank you very much!!
@@SonicDriveStudio I still have some problem to balance the Right levels between different amp (expecialy balancing Master and Channel Volume ) i m usualy recording with the Usb from helix direct into garageband (not the best Daw) but i keep evrything in the yellow zone (not over -6 Db)
I love love love helix Native, and I've got the HX stomp on the way too. the HX stomp and an expression pedal is all I'll ever need thanks to snapshots and ease of making a patch for literally anything. The one thing I need to do is buy some more ownhammer IRs. I've only been using the free "V60" pack which is absolutely great and all, but I would like more options. As always, your videos rock and you're the reason I chose Helix Native in the first place.
Added this vid to favs. Really important and helpful tutorial. Crunch tone rocks!!! Sick and wide open mmm. Keep it up man! I love your work and I watch every new video for a year already.
You were one of the reasons I jumped from Helix Native to Helix LT. (And buy some Ownhammer Impulses) Best decision I’ve ever made. It’s made live set up a breeze (with the backpack and plugging in to front of house) as well as songwriting in the studio using Helix Native.
Huh. I should learn what all the different IR mixes mean. I have the core bundle. And I always use whichever one is just the "OH1-07" or 06. Whichever is available. Because I have no idea what any of them means. Sounds great.
Well, thank you for the tutorial, I followed it really carefully, I did each step like you. Exact same parameters with the same OH IR but my sound is total crap. I don’t get it. I’m working on logic pro and Hélix Native. What is wrong :( ? Does the guitar model matter ? I feel like I never will be able to make this done right.
Sold my Helix after 2 years - Fm3 from fractal - ! Blows the helix cleans driven and the chorus and reverbs better - eventide and strymon ! I really couldn’t believe the difference ! Like watching 4K from a black and white ! 😎🤪
Placater = Play+kay+ter. Placate means to make someone happy or less angry, i.e. when everyone was complaining about not having a Friedman, Line 6 placated them by introducing the Placater!
Dude you really know how to create sounds! Congratulations! I'm a layman in the helix universe.. could you please explain to me what is the difference between the sounds I can get with Helix Native and the tones I get with the helix floor itself? Whenever I see your video using Helix Native the sound is impressive! It is possible to get the same sound from Helix Native in Helix itself or one takes advantage of the other! I would like to understand this difference! Thank you very much! Success for your channel!
The Helix Native plugin is supposed to sound exactly the same as the Helix hardware if you're reamping DI tracks recorded with the hardware units. However, depending on the audio interface you're using, there might be slight differences in tone with Helix Native compared to plugging directly into the hardware. One thing of particular note with Helix Native is that you need to set your input levels properly for the modelling to be as accurate as possible. A decent interface and proper input levels should get you really close to the hardware!
In general I’ve really been enjoying my Helix. Employing it’s power for live gigs has been really helpful. My main criticism: Even the cleanest amp models seem to break up too quickly. You have to keep output volumes super low & have to use low output single coil pickups. This makes presets super low output. I’ve used real Roland Jazz & Fender amps and have gotten cleaner. I’m aiming for Nile Rogers/Chuck Loeb type tones vs Brian Setzer. My work around has been to steal an idea from Paul Hindmarsh & create patch with no actual amp in patch & just EQ. Super clean even with my Petrucci however I’d still prefer a more Fendery clean sound patch. Any suggestions welcome. Please also recommend best Ownhammer IR to enhance cleanest tones if possible. Lastly, I wish you would make your patches available for the public. Your breadth of knowledge on mixing and creating patches is outstanding 👍🎸
I notice that your guitar wav files are mainly in stereo but appear to be hard panned left and right. Is there a benefit to doing things this way rather than two separate mono files?
That’s the most common way of setting up stereo. Drums are usually setup that way as well for the overheads. It gives it a fuller sound and wider spread.
hi do you have any global settings adjustments on the helix when you do these or did you use the default ones? (i mean global EQ or specific impedance settings and such) Absolutely stunning tones!
Hi : ) Very cool video. Congrats. I want to ask you this: I heard that the line 6 helix lt maybe has just one bad thing that is the noise gate. I am a heavy metal guy so that point it very important to me. Have you tested that unit? Do you know how you/one could fix that? Thanks for your help : )
Great vids SDS! I found your channel searching Cubase vids and now your changing the way I view recording guitars. A couple questions.... 1) I always record in my guitars in mono and pan to fit the project....you seem to refer stereo panned....just curious your reasons? 2) I’ve had a Kemper since release but really like the workflow of say Helix Native or S Gear....you have a great vids of both...if you had to pick one I’m just curious which you’d pick? Thanks for all the great vids!!!!
Could you recommend an amplifier head for the Helix? Should I go for the so called "pedal platform" amps; do I simply need an amp with a clean chanel; or will any amp will do as long as I can skip the preamp section and plug straight into the power amp?
Man great sounds! I’m with you on the badonk amp, it’s my fav high gain amp. Question, do you mess with any global EQ settings like low/high cuts or just per preset as needed?
Absolutely love your tones!! I am just curious why you record in stereo? What are the added benefits? I record my guitars mono usually because it it common practice but want to know if there is an extra benefit from recording in stereo.
Hey John. I’m a amp modeler virgin. I bought a brand new helix lt and a headrush 12” frfr I’m not getting anything I would consider even acceptable sounds. Of course my headphones broke yesterday and I have more on the way. Please tell me I haven’t wasted a couple grand basically? Please? I even bought ir’s like ownhammer Cali duo. Um as lost as can be. I’d be willing to pay to have video instruction possibly.
I’m a 80’s -modern medal guy minus the the treble strings on the eight string guitars Joke. But I’m a standard, e flat drop d. Fully dropped d but that’s about it.
The only issue all amp sims have is gain structure. You dial back your volume and the helix can’t handle it like a tube amp. But all amp sins have this. Any way around this? Let me know!
Sonic Drive Studio I own the helix and it still does. That’s why I’m wondering what you do to get around it. If I dial back volume I certainly don’t get the response a tube amp would give. I’ve seen a lot of people say the same thing. But, I do love the thing. Makes my life easy.
Hi! I love your videos! I just wanted to ask a question! I own a POD HD 500x! How would you compare it with the POD HD 500x? Are the differences very noticeable? (i am talking especially about the stock cabs for the amps) If i had to choose between Fractal Audio AX8 and Helix LT.. What would be the right choice for me?
Helix is miles above the POD HD especially the cab modeling. IR's make a big difference. Both the Helix and AX8 allow you to load user cab IR's. I would do some research, I can't easily tell you which one you should get... Good luck!
Try the Helix Native demo! Granted I think the hardware sounds better, but when I tried it, I was immediately converted and had tones that satisfied my needs.
Hi Chris, as I explained in the video I'm using OH Player Pack IR's from the Line 6 store. Those packs have a different feature set than the normal packs. You could try the OH1 mixes as they would get you close to the sound of the FWD mix.
Yes, that's correct! I'm not a huge fan of overdrive boxes in general, I only use them once in a while. I prefer the tone of a 'pure' amp. If the amp doesn't work I just try a different amp.
Really? I have not noticed such a thing.. Can you explain what you're hearing and talk a little bit more about your setup? Are you monitoring Native through the same speakers as the Floor?
Rick Boyer I feel the same. I think the hardware sounds even better. It could be that the firmware on Native is behind? Native is like... 2.5 and hardware is like 2.6 ? (I could be wrong but last time I checked there wasn’t an update for native)
@@SonicDriveStudio I know that chorus is a must in metal ballad clean tone but I was expecting more like a fender or vox kind of clean. But it was a great video man, keep it up.
