If he is doing a VO2 Max workout like the coach said he is running @ his 2 mile pace and the recovery is 1:1, meaning what ever he runs he rests. It is a very good workout add it to your routine and you will see results.

Mike Porter This is a VO2 max workout designed to increase his efficient use of oxygen. It is 4800 meters total so correct pace and recovery time is essential. The pace would be somewhere around his two mile pace with 1:1 run/recovery time. Its a tough workout.
