  • In the third and final session of Blurb’s series on Portfolio Building and Branding, Dan Milnor walks you through the final steps of creating your portfolio. If you’re wondering how to give your photography a final polish and prep it to be ready to print and distribute, Dan will help you do just that. Guest speaker and photography consultant, Sybylla Smith makes an appearance to give her tips and insight.
    Dan dives into the details surrounding the following topics:
    * A recap and why you should print a portfolio. Dan shares why printing your portfolio matters and explains how it forces creatives to apply critical thought to their work, something that might not happen in the digital space.
    * Things to consider when creating a portfolio:
    o Budget
    o Quantity
    o Materials used
    o Editing
    o Sequencing
    o Test
    o Refine
    o Repeat the steps
    * ‘The Journal’ portfolio example. Dan reviews an example of a photo journal he created and printed.
    * Q&A
    * Guest speaker, Sybylla Smith. Sybylla shares her recommendations on how to edit and sequence your images. She breaks down recognizing impactful images, how you see, the punctum practice, and her framework and podcast of the same name, Concept Aware.

    Great series. I’ve been making Blurb books for almost 15 years. As a Bookwright user, I appreciated some of the tips and hacks you showed. I only wish that Blurb had a 16:9 aspect ratio format for books though.
