Having a bunch of people believe it isn’t enough of a reason to believe in a God. Accepting someone's testimony is radically removed from cutting the covenant with God, or cutting the covenant with someone. A holy person can cut the covenant with a God denier, but when one of them breaks trust it doesn't make the person with honor & integrity wrong. 'Covenant' is a much better term than 'testament' when explaining the action in reality.
@@jollytemplar3670 When I was working for Billy Graham as a counselor at his Crusade, we were in cohoots with Victory Outreach in Los Angeles. After Reverend Graham's sermon Little Richard gave a concert (free), all free (as I recall they did pass the plate, kind of a must in the business of ministry), but before the concert with Victory Outreach we passed out flyers in the barrios of Los Angeles. The Mexicans (Los Angeles) who were a part of Victory Outreach (Christ/Christians) all formerly belonged to gangs, they _all_ pretty much without excpetion had previously been jumped into a gang. They cut the covenant with a particular gang, and then left the gang, a veritable death sentence, and then went to the Jesus people and then sent back into the barrios and gangs they jumped out of (jumped in, jumped out, jumped *into* Christ, and jumped back into their old stomping grounds). It's not some video game, cutting the covenant is some serious business. That's where the hand shake comes from. A while back especially in the Apalachia mountains they cut the covenant by spitting in their hands and before that, long before, people would cut the fleshly part of their palm (both people) and would comingle their blood, like how Indians used to do it. You were then in a blood covenant. Atheism is not a religion in that sense, it's bloodless, and worthless, the bond you have with another "atheist" is not worth the paper it's printed on. I prove Dawkins wrong on a single point and I'm immediately hit with, "Dawkins atheism is not my atheism." Right, because "atheism" has no depth of character, no bond, no jumping in or out. Hell, I can be everything you are by simply saying, "I'm an atheist too." You're not honoring a covenant. In jails and prisons, you leave a gang, and you get killed.
That's true up to a point, but when we talk about the people who made up the gods, we're often talking about the people responsible for laying down a church's dogma/doctrine. The prescriptive and proscriptive elements of the church, so to speak. And if we take Christianity as an example, it's not unreasonable to say that the people who wrote, rewrote, refined, interpreted, reinterpreted and enforced the scriptures in the first 1700 years of Christianity had very different ideas about morality than many church leaders over the last 50 years.
Honestly the fact that this call in show exists and looking at the comments section makes me feel so happy and rejuvenates my faith in humanity thank you so much guys
I think the "holy spirit" is just as easily viewed when 100k people sing Bohemian Rhapsody at a green day concert. The goose bumps, the euphoria, the sense of belonging, all without a religious connection.
I believe almost anyone can convince themselves of almost anything. In fact there are multiple examples throughout history where literally thousands of people en masse become convinced of something. As far as I can tell from the incredible and frankly ludicrous comments I see posted online by Christians there is a fundamental BELIEF already in place which makes all the subsequent experiential claims (e.g. talking with God, seeing Jesus, ‘personal experiences’ ) simply a matter of indoctrination and self-suggestion. There’s nothing fundamentally different going on than there is with say a Hindu having an identical ‘personal experience’.

I used to be a skeptic. But then I got evidence that proved to my satisfaction that requiring satisfactory evidence prior to belief was a bad method. So I no longer believe that it is.
In the case of Hunter I completely understand where he's coming from. My story was a little different. I was at my grandparents house for Thanksgiving and my grandfather asked me to say prayer. I was caught by surprise and everyone in my family was looking at me. So I said thank you for my family and everyone being here today and then I said amen. I've been an atheist for several years but the majority of my family doesn't know. I felt so bad because I know I just did it to please them but I wasn't being true to myself. That will never happen again. I am comfortable and confident in the person that I am and no one will change that.
"With religion, no one wants to think they are being superstitious. That indicates you are believing in something that does not exist, which makes you look very foolish. And indeed, if you persist in doing this, you will feel that you are wasting your life. When religion disappoints, it is felt to be superstitious. The controversy of whether something is religion or superstition cannot be ended in the conscious, intellectual part of your mind which thrives on doubt and is afraid to get involved in anything very seriously. The controversy is resolved in another state of mind called Knowledge. No one wants to think they are being superstitious. Therefore, do not try and understand all the things that we say from your personal mind because you cannot do that. It is fruitless to try. We want to take you to a greater state of mind where things can be known. In that state everything makes sense, though it is quite difficult to describe the experience once it is over because it sounds very fanciful. The physical world is involved in the movement and interaction of things. The realm of Knowledge emphasizes the nature of true relationship, how things are truly related. Why is it important to know this? It is important because this is where your meaning comes from. Any sense of purpose in life that is genuine comes from this mysterious part of your life. In order to enjoy life, there must be Mystery. In order to grow in life, there must be Mystery. This means that there is a part of your life you participate in but do not understand. Therefore, if you are to be a person who is evolving, do not allow yourself to have an understanding of life that is conclusive. As soon as you begin to think that you know what all things mean and are for, you begin to stop in your development. Your security must come from something greater than your own thought system and beliefs. If beliefs are what you establish your identity upon, well, you will not want to investigate life very much because if you do, you will begin to challenge and question the very ideas that you have accepted without question." I am impressed by the ‘Atheist Experience’ shows. They are clever and entertaining and I watched quite a few in the last 2 months. It is courageous to go against theism. The USA is mainly a Christian county, but I am from Europe. We have our Christians under control. Unfortunately we have to face an increasing number of Muslims now. These people are overwhelmingly fundamentalists and extremely dangerous. You wouldn’t believe what can be read in Muslim forums, it is frightening. How do you think one can counter these people before it is too late?
its difficult for me to speak of these matters without coming off as xenophobic or racist, especially when I am only human and wholly capable of both xenophobia and racism. However, I think I understand and agree with your point. My experience with Muslims in general and especially in Muslim forums (where they are self-selecting for extremism) is that they are much less likely to agree to a kind of "live and let live" social truce. Unfortunately, I don't know that there is anything that can, or even should, be done to "counter these people", aside from what we are already doing, which is demonstrating with our words and actions that we don't need god to live happy, productive, moral lives. It seems to me we are simply in the throes of what history will call the Islamic Enlightenment. It may get worse before it gets better, but Muslims will eventually realize that they can't be so dogmatic if they wish to participate in the rest of the civilized world. AE has had former Muslim co-hosts in the past and I, for one, would like to see more, perhaps even a permanent ex-Muslim co host.

Asserting a *God* as an absolute concept without providing something verifiable is simply nonsensical blabbering. It breaks my heart hearing about so many marriages in trouble due to people's' beliefs changing. Its so wrong. I think its so unbelievably important to marry someone for THEM. The person they are - their traits, their heart, their mind - the things that are unique to them. Not for the things in their life - religion, hobbies, job, etc. Those things change. It is almost guaranteed those things will change in some way throughout their lifetime. Of course, I totally understand valuing those things. My family talks this holey Buybull nonsense too. The only time I express how my views differ from theirs or what my views are is when they start preaching at me. I have to bite my tongue, too, when they talk amongst themselves. I feel they are talking the way Christians normally do and I think they do it around me on purpose so they can craftily spout their nonsense and I have to hear it. I usually just shake my head at them and walk away if possible. These days, I find myself not asking their opinions about much of anything because I know it's gonna be full of brainwashed logic. It makes finding conversation difficult but luckily I'm introverted and usually enjoy sticking to myself but I know how that could be extremely difficult for people who feel they need more human interaction.

As if I wasn't on my toes _before he said that!_ So, later that day, that evening (dusk) I'm out walking (I carry 32 lbs. of water in bags for maximal workouts) I see this what appears to me to be a black homeless guy. Bags in tow I walked past him without changing my pace while we are on opposite sides of the street, no need to put my mask on as if I was crossing paths with another human being. Check this out, that guy *changed his pace* came up behind me and slowly walked past me 100% invading my territory bubble *as if there was no pandemic!* The whole thing reminds me of being a young adult during GRID/AIDS. What if this pandemic is just the beginning of tribulations?

@John Wood has a God Prove it.
Big up tech crew and Jenna in this video, WP guys/gals!
These calls brought to my mind one question: why are only some circumstances called ‘an act of god?’ Shouldn’t EVERYTHING that happens fall under that rule? And if so, doesn’t it prove that the god in the bible is the horrible person Matt has described? I can’t be the only person who has wondered this.
@1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV Aiming empty threats of hellfire and/or damnation at some absent third party doesn't make them any less empty, ya know.
So the good things in the world happen due to God as well .
@John Wood but why , you are blaming someone going hungry on God then the vice versa should also be true isn't it as such if God was responsible for famine then he is also responsible for the rise of civilization .

He has no higher education and 100% confirmation bias. He claims 'atheism' no matter the number of valid contradictions.
@@trustinjesus1119 *He has no higher education*
Irrelevant. You either know that and are intentionally being dishonest, or you don't and you're a complete idiot. Which is it?
@Kibate First of all, that's "not all there is." If it was "all there is" then there wouldn't be any show, he'd put it all on the cover of a matchbook and pass it around.
Second, "I lack belief" is a contradiction in itself. We don't normally possess the type of ESP required to determine that in the second-person. Why lie about what we believe? I dunno, maybe because *I DON'T WANT TO HAVE MY HEAD CHOPPED OFF!*
3rd, "because of a lack of evidence" is what both sides are saying. We're in a dispute where we contradict each other, that's why we need (really) a disinterested arbiter to decide between us.

Therefore he is perfect.

Amene seems to take the Fermat approach to prove God - "I have a wonderful proof of God but there is not time enough in this RUclips channel for me to explain it."
Fermat was joking. Years later, some mathematician came up with a proof of Fermat's theorem. It was very, very long.
@@NeverTalkToCops1 It's possible that Fermat actually did have a shorter (valid) proof which we just haven't discovered yet. But it's more likely that his short proof was flawed in some way. Or maybe he just had in his mind the barest outline of how he thought the proof might go, and the details weren't there. I really don't think he was simply pulling our legs.
Just ask this god fellow to appear and win the debate,

Hunter is mature beyond his years. I thought the entire time he had to be around 30. When I was 20 I couldnt care less about moral standards or honesty. I was always kind and empathetic, but I was selfish above all else. Dont beat yourself up friend, sounds like this situation just made you aware of one of your personal boundaries. You will come up against them throughout your life, you will learn more about the person you are, and it will inform the decisions you will make, and actions you will take. Good luck and stay safe in these crazy times.

For a 'supreme being', god's first mistake was to make us in his own image. That is why we are as invisible to him, as he is to us!
I want a t-shirt with Matt’s face and the quote “no, no, no, no, no, you are done!”
"Answer the fucking question or you're gone... You're gone."
If beliefs are what you establish your identity upon, well, you will not want to investigate life very much because if you do, you will begin to challenge and question the very ideas that you have accepted without question."

At my mother's funeral, my sister and I were both asked to speak. We both declined because there was too much issue. The pastor did what was needed and neither of us had to lie to make her friends feel good.
I am impressed by the ‘Atheist Experience’ shows.

Humans need oxygen, food, water, and sleep in order to live, these are simple examples of objective absolutes and can be objectively verified quite easily amongst all of humanity. Now, why is it that this omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent *higher authority* like this supposed *God* verifiable in equal simplicity? Why is verifying this absolute *God* so elusive?
Maybe we don't have the means yet .
@@gamingdragon1356 It was rhetorical, objective absolutes are easily verifiable and testable in reality; that's what makes them absolute. The very notion that this concept of a *God* being objectively elusive and non verifiable in reality is the very proof of it's fault for absolution.

But valuing them to the point that the marriage ends if those things change causes a lot of problems & pain for everyone involved.

My family talks this holey Buybull nonsense too. The only time I express how my views differ from theirs or what my views are is when they start preaching at me. I often try to throw in a wise remark when that time presents itself: when they start on the offense, I play defense and then make an offensive remark back.
