You're correct about Usopp's name! Now couple that with the fact that "uso" means "lie" in Japanese and there you have it.
Also, that Usopp basically does "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" in his village, which is one of Aesop's fables.

I'm a manga reader personally myself, but i always go to the anime when there's something that needs to be seen animated. ALSO 1 thing that the manga WILL NOT give you, is the BEAUTIFUL music of the series. Definitely enough reason alone to watch the anime imo.

My friend is in dressrosa right now and every time i catch up with him, he complains about the pacing. But he also thinks Blackbeard is a dead villain so idk if i trust him.

I'm finding this so late, but like as someone who also has a Lit. degree, I absolutely love Dad's enthusiasm once he's come to appreciate the legitimacy of One Piece as literature. Usopp is one of my favorite characters as well, and I can't wait to see Dad's thoughts on the deeper aspects of the story as he reads more!
OnePiece is a great bonding franchise..definitely makes us rediscover Onepiece of ourselves..that was lost to time.
as someone who has been reading One Piece for the past 15 years and a die hard fan of this series this is absolutely amazing!! cannot wait for more of these and with ur literature background, your perspective will be super unique and important because the author Oda takes inspiration from a lot of stuff!! Also yes one of my favourite parts about reading the manga is the QnA section or as the author calls it the SBS corner-never miss that! and also NEVER APOLOGISE enjoy the journey, take your time, its worth it!
My fav thing about the Baratie Arc is the way Hawkeye is introduced. He wasn't sent after the Strawhats by the World Government he just happened to arrive at the restaurant because he was following Don Krieg. Don Krieg woke him up from HIS NAP so Mihawk massacared Don Kriegs fleet then stalked the survivours to the Baratie to 'kill some time'. Because he was bored. Loved the vibe this gave his character, absoloutly great intro.
I love how excited you get over everything you're dad says. Sounds like me when i talk One Piece with my mom. I'm so happy he's getting interested, it's so rewarding to share One Piece with someone like that.

I've always thought syrup village was overhated. It's a very sweet arc, because it demonstrates that people do create a lasting change on others, even if its not just their dreams. Usopp running through the town gave everyone motivation for the day. They felt bad that they might have gotten too angry. He was someone who really made a big impact on his home, and through his will carrying on, the town will still get motivated every day.
17:28 they also sell the color pages as compendiums called color walks and they cover quite a lot. So id check those out if you wanted to get them
One Piece is a journey that every person takes at their own pace. Some drop off along the way and others speed through it like a marathon. Each journey is different and it's your own, so take what time you need to digest what you need. We're used to long waits so don't worry if some people demand faster pace. The rest of us are happy that you're just sharing your journey with us.
I absolutely love people getting into my favourite story ever! The amount of love for One Piece is recieving will never be enough for me. Dadpiece is something I'll be following for sure

Nice to see you back in YT!! Glad your Dad is enjoying and paying thorough attention to detail. In the case of Zoro carrying Kuina's dream, that is a major One Piece topic, given Gold Roger's speech of "Inherited will, Destiny, Dreams of the people and the Pursuit of Freedom". IMO his way of making sure that Kuina has a part on her dream is to become the greatest swordsman by using Kuina's sword as his main sword, that way she would be participating in their dream coming true even after passing.

fun fact: Usopp name is a combo of 2 things Aesop for the second half the first bit is from Uso which is lie or an exlemation for unbleavable in Japanese, also Usotsuki is lier in Japanese

And yeah the Anime stepped down on those brutal things of Zeff but in the Live Action it was mentioned and showed that his feet are red because of teh blood of his enemys! also i think that battleship thing from mihawk was mentioned as well. Actually, though it is more a personal opinion, most of the people i know that was reading the color version changed back to the black and white... Though the colored version brings a whole new dimension to the manga... It also misses a lot of the intensity and power of a lot of scenes where oda focuses on characters and their emotions since those scenes are also muffled by the color... though the anime brings those emotions back in again with the voices music and sound effects... but Oda does magic just with those black and white lines and it really is toned down a bit when the color overshadows a bit of that...

another fact about Zoro (or Zolo) his family name Roronoa is in allusion to the pirate François l'Olonnais (Roronoa being the Japanese pronunciation of his name)

Sanji stays 2 dimensional for a while. I think a few islands into The Grand Line he starts to be a little intriguing
There are dozens of anime adaptions that I prefer to the original manga. One Piece is very much the opposite. The artistry, detail and pacing are all superior to the anime most of the time even with One Pace. These videos continue to be amazing.

While Jango's moonwalk and hat are obvious homages to Michael Jackson I believe his hair and face are directly inspired from Steven Tyler. In addition to this, Sanji's aesthetic and mannerisms were actually confirmed by Oda to be inspired from the character Mr. Pink from the movie Reservoir Dogs. Just some fun trivia I thought was worth sharing

@@gamma5672 Given the limited run of the live action, he was probably cut due to the time constraints. Am I disappointed? No. My primary interest is the Manga. I am curious as to whether or not we will see him again.
The pandaman thing is not important, but it is a hidden game in the chapters. It is wheres waldo in one piece 😊
small correction: The Official Digital Color version is up to around chapter 1000, but only in Japanese or by fans in several version, one of which copypasted the Viz translation, but left the sfx and some words like "gum gum" in Japanese.
And it is very enjoyable to read in color. Phenomally well colored and interesting to sometimes see canon manga colors that are different in the anime

My favorite aspect of One Piece is that its always felt as though Oda took a child's bedroom and turned it upside down spilling the toybox, bookshelf, movies, etc. all over the floor and made an entirely unique narrative with all these disparate source materials. So with that being said my question is what is your favorite reference, homage, or inspiration found in One Piece? For example I love that Big Mom is essentially the witch in the candy cottage from Hansel & Gretel.

Please for the love of god call the man Zoro. Zolo is a mistranslation that they went with it in the English release of the manga. His name is Roronoa Zoro.
The reason that I stick with "Zolo" is that every time I hear "Zoro" I think of the black and white "Zorro" television show that I watched on TV in my youth. I want this character to be his own character without the other encroaching. Maybe I'll switch in the future. - Dad

@@PorkChopsRiceandPeaches I really do want to hear your analysis but every time I hear that L it hurts my soul. I won’t read the official translations of the manga for that reason (even though I’m helping my husband collect it). A lot of the characters are named after real historical people and fictional characters, so Zoro IS the intended pronunciation. Plus it’s just fun to say his full name- Roronoa Zoro!

You almost end up saying “Zodo” but the d is VERY soft, just a lilting tap with the tip of your tongue
