I don't know if you caught it but when they were talking about what they like for dessert, in the flashback Eisen said that he loves sour grapes the more sour the better. And in a earlier episode Fern was asking Frieren why she collects weird spells, like the one that turns sweet grapes sour.
One thing that I think is quite overlooked is how dangerous Qual is. I know its discussed how humans spent several years studying Zoltraak and eventually designing stronger magic to defend against it. Qual took one look at that defensive spell and knew exactly how it worked and how to recreate it all in a matter of seconds. Imagine if he had more time to analyze the depth of the new magic. There's a reason Frieren did not take her time with this one (as shown in later episodes). She knew if she did not kill him quick, he would become an unstoppable threat once again. I am sure that sealing magic would not work a second time (assuming no new advancements hes unaware of).
@@duneslayerzoltrak would be only superficially similar in a year. In the same way a musket ball is still comparable to armor piercing rounds. The shield would become less and less effective as he adjusted it to overcome the new defenses.
Did you notice - the hair ornament was a butterfly. If you go back to E2, there was a quick 1-second flashback to when Fern cast one of her first spells, and created a swarm of spectral butterflies.
The fact that even Fern referred to Zoltrak as "ordinary offensive magic" was hilarious though. Imagine spending your whole life developing this super awesome spell, and then you wake up one day and find out that they're just casually teaching it to everyone that goes to magic school now.
Nah I'd be flattered fr, like the magic you created was so epic it has become the fundamentals of new age magic. Would Newton be embarrassed if he knew highschoolers are learning calculus?
The thing about this show, at the start we think Himmel is this one off character who we only see for an episode. But the truth is the presense of Himmel encompasses the whole show. It's the old words of "he's in our hearts" but more profound. There is almost no one in this story who hasn't been affected by Himmel's actions and life, and you'll see more and more of that as you watch the show.
Frieren kept telling Fern to read the book of magic history she gave her but Fern kept putting it off. If she'd read it, she'd have known all about Qual and Zoltraak and all that stuff. In this case I think it was on Fern for being lazy and not on Frieren for keeping stuff from her, because Frieren still trained her specifically to deal with Qual.
Something I noticed in this episode is one of her party members said his favorite food was grapes "the sourer the better", and last episode one of the miscellaneous spells she wanted was something that turned sweet grapes sour
I’m really enjoying the sisterly bond that is developing between Frieren and Fern. That was a very lovely gift that Frieren got for her. The hair ornament looks lovely on Fern.
I don't think the idea in Frieren is just to show that Frieren herself actually knew Himmel well. It's more that she, Frieren, never really paid much attention or valued any of the things she experienced with her adventurer mates, so her experiences with Himmel were just sorta filed away in her memory. The idea is that she relives them in her mind, and now kinda goes "Ah! so THAT's what that meant!" and slowly realizes how her detachment prevented her from seeing what those experiences were as they happen. Don't you have from your own lives experiences like that -- things that only made sense later on, because, as they happened, you didn't know what they were, or were too worried about other things, or just didn't really think or pay close attention to them -- and only later do they suddenly become important and beautiful to you?
Frieren reunited with Heiter 20 years after himmels death. Which means the start of the episode is 7 years after she came to visit Heiter and Fern for the first time.
by the way Zoltraak is also the name of the theme heard during Qual's battle versus Fern and Frieren. and the composer is the same as Violet Evergarden...!
Every spell she finds just ends up as something one of her party members would’ve enjoyed on their adventure 80 years ago. Eisen would’ve loved the sour grapes spell. Himmel would’ve loved the flower field spell even more, knowing he could finally see those flowers with Frieren again. And a few other spells she collects later but I won’t spoil
as you're going through these episodes, you should try to notice every detail possible. It enriches the story even more. For instance, in this episode, Frieren got on Fern about not reading up on Qual (Magic History Tome). As they were leaving, you see her reading said book. Thes small stuff is just as important as everything else, and you won't regret taking note of all of it.
not sure if it was noticed (i didnt link it the first time i saw it) but at some point we saw fern learning her first spell (or atleast on of her first) and it was a butterfly spell, thus friren getting her the butterfly hair ornament thing is very thoughtful
3:31 “She like digs up his grave…” Oh no, you’ve figured out the plot twist of this story…. After Frieren figures out that she actually loved Himmel, she turns to the dark arts and becomes a Necromancer, digging up Himmel’s grave and turning him into her zombie lover. Fern, meanwhile, becomes a black leather-clad S&M Princess, belittling men with her glare of disdain, chaining soldiers to her and whipping their butts with her Wand of Punishment… Enjoy these wholesome episodes while they last…

Also the spel she showed heiter in a flashback when they find the flowers, was one that creates butterflies like on the gift from frieren

Yeah give him a year or a few months and who knows what would happen.
He might climb up to ranks and become a demon lord in a few years,
Agreed
So True

Einstein learning that E=mc^2 is worldwide known vibes.
Ah, yes, every top tier players worst nightmare: finding out you're no longer meta

I love the butterfly on the hair clip, a call back to when fern was a kid with Heiter and cast the spell that shot a bunch of butterflies in the air
Frieren reunited with Heiter 20 years after himmels death. Which means the start of the episode is 7 years after she came to visit Heiter and Fern for the first time.
“I wonder if we’re going to get a time skip soon” as if like 80 years hasn’t already passed since the first scene of the show
Wednesdays best days?? How many times do we have to teach you this lesson OLD MAN 😂💥! I think they put the hat on the Himmel memorial 🥲
by the way Zoltraak is also the name of the theme heard during Qual's battle versus Fern and Frieren. and the composer is the same as Violet Evergarden...!
Zoltrak is played in a later episode, the one in Qual’s battle is called Evolution of Magic
Please keep doing these 2 episode releases on Frieren, it fits the show to get more than a episodes worth of content at the time ^^
This show is amazing. Very D&D the anime
Hearing Himmel being angry reminds me he’s voiced by shouty boy Nobuhiko Okamoto.
In sports, they say defense wins games. It also seems to win magical battles as well.
21:00 well theres a reason why Frieren kept telling Fern to read up on the history of magic 😂😂😂

last episode she learned a spell to make grapes sour, the dwarf revealed that's their favorite food in a flashback this episode :(
Sam’s morbid comments are my fav 😂 3:29
When a dead character has more depth than most or almost all the animes that's been aired in the past few years including current ones.
where was morgans shirt bought? the design is really cool
Frieren" the version of windows already upgrade from win 95 to win 11"
The closest to Frieren vibes I've seen in a video game might be Book of Travels. Ni No Kuni could fit too but it's closer to Ghibli tbh.
Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Horizon Zero Dawn and the sequel are good & beautiful scenery RPG's.
yes, Frieren The Game would be cool too. Like those LotR games.
I wanna make my character like Fern in BG3
Fern or Faerun it just a guess from Japanese katakana.
THATS WHY HES HIMmel.
If this art is beautiful. You should react to grimgar 😂
