“We know this girl is /not/ about to do all this stuff on her own, so we’re gonna trick her into doing it, because that’s just what friends do”. They really are absolute top tier friends though. Wouldn’t most people give up on friendship with her after 10, 20, 30 years of apparent coldness/apathy and not reciprocating much at all? But these guys were completely happy to offer her love and friendship, because they hoped it would mean something to her someday. Especially Himmel; Idk if they ever outright state it, but i think it’s clear from his flirting and stuff that Himmel almost definitely had feelings for Frieren. And he can seem goofy and maybe a little vain, but he must be a deeply selfless and humble person to be in love with someone, not have those feelings reciprocated, and then continue being the closest and most caring friend they ever have. Himmel the Hero got friendzoned and saw it was a challenge to be the best god damn friend for the rest of his life. To show love and friendship to Frieren when she probably won’t show much back-and might not even appreciate it until long after he’s been dead and can’t be shown that love in return-takes a special, unconditional kind of love.
@@JesusOfPaign Only tangentially related, but this is actually something that a lot of Autistic/ADHD people deal with. We're terrible at maintaining relationships; at best we can actively maintain two friendships, and we're very "Out of sight-out of mind". We love our friends dearly, and appreciate any and all closeness, but man are we shit at connecting the dots between "I miss them" and "I should text them/call them/invite them" I rarely if ever text first. I speak with my friends maybe once or twice a month, and it's never a long conversation. But I love my friends dearly, and I fear every day that they will drift away from me because I "don't care" or show enough effort. I am forever grateful I have old friends who are a lot like Himmel, Heiter and Eisen - We can not speak for a year, and then pick up right where we left off with no issues. This show really likes scratching at my sore spots, lmao.
Eisen said in this episode that they just want her to speak with Himmel because she has regrets about not getting to know him better/expressing her feelings, they just don't want her to live an almost immortal life with regret 💔 I think that's enough reason to make the journey, also don't feel so bad for Fern, what an incredible life she's about to live (for this universe), most people either get killed by monsters or live as peasants on a farm so she's got it pretty good 😂
Yeah, right? I dont what Frenn would do without Freiren. Maybe learn magic in a more usual way? Dont know, but it's cool to have a main quest going besides one of the greatest mages of their time.
There's also always the chance that Fern could find some life calling on the way, tho from a story perspective I doubt it would happen that way. She probably wants to get there too so she can see Heiter and tell him all her adventures
20:48 The reason why Himmel said she couldn't see it alone, and the reason why Frieren smiled, was because she saw the sunrise reflected off of Fern's face, lighting up her smile. What Himmel was getting at, indirectly, was that there's beauty, and then there's the shared experience of appreciating that beauty together, and that it was the latter that Frieren missed out on the first time around, and she finally got what Himmel was really after when she, as a third party, saw Fern appreciating the sunrise. Of course, this shows something else about Himmel as well, specifically, that he wanted to share the sunrise with Frieren, but he didn't get to, much in the same way that he didn't get to share the flowers of his hometown with her. Himmel left a lot of things unshared, and unsaid, with Frieren, and this whole journey, contrived by Eisen and Heiter, was their way of helping Frieren to find those things, because they knew. The story basically starts at the Era Meteor shower, because that was the first thing that they promised to share with each other, that they actually got. There are basically two reasons why Himmel did everything he did, and a lot of what he does looks or seems silly on the surface, but once you dig a bit deeper, you'll find literally everything he did, he did with Frieren in mind, including leaving the statues.
The butterfly on Fern's clip has some additional significance: in the second episode, we see Fern casting a spell that created butterflies out of light for Heiter, which was implied to be the moment that inspired Fern to pursue magic for the rest of her life.
This is a great episode -sets the foundation for the rest of the series. I love the idea of Flamme knowing, a thousand years before, that Frieren would eventually be back and the reason why. The book opening to just the right page is a wonderful touch. When Frieren and Fern eventually get to Heaven, I am sure that Flamme will be one of the people Frieren looks up!
I am 100% expecting Heiter and even Eisen to also be in heaven by the time she arrives. Maybe Eisen makes some joke like "U took so long I took a shortcut"
Eisen isn't that old for a dwarf though. I know Stark was worried that Eisen might not be alive when he comes back but Stark is, well, kind of an idiot. Eisen could easily still outlive both Stark and Fern.
Mentored by the world's most famous and most powerful mage for 10 years would do wonders for your career later! If i was a galdalf type MF i would hire fern on the spot!
I'm glad they showed Himmel like that when he was elderly. When you see a frail old person hunched over, in the vast majority of cases they look completely different to when they were young. It doesn't matter how athletic or good looking they were in their prime, anyone can end up like that, and elderly people shouldn't be dismissed or underestimated just for ending up with that type of appearance. That's why it was good to show that even the legendary hero Himmel ended up that way, too.
Be on the lookout for small callbacks! Frieren will often get a certain spell or go to some location or buy something that her old party was interested in. They're like little easter eggs but really show that she's serious about remembering people and forming genuine bonds despite her longevity.
I starting to believe you ladies theory on Himmel and Frieren bond being that of a tragic love story. I have feeling this series will bring great joy and sadness to our hearts.
My favourite detail in this episode is when Frieren says "Mother" when Fern tries to wake her for the New Years' Festival. In a later episode we learn that Frieren discovered that demons say "Mother" when they're being attacked to make humans feel sympathy and spare their lives, so she is literally begging Fern not to kill her by waking her up before sunrise.
22:50 “I feel like when they get there, there’s gonna be like some reincarnation of the Demon King and they’re gonna have to fight it again.” Demon King Anos Voldigoad: “Hmf… did you think that by killing me, I would be dead?”
2:32 people think that the reason Himmel aged "poorly", was due to the dragon horn that Frieren asked him to hold on to - the one that emits the mysterious black aura. Since no one knows the effects of black aura, not even Frieren, it got people to assume that it was the reason Himmel changed so drastically when he got old.
21:18 even in the flashback with Frieren talking to her master Flamme, she kinda looked as old as she is right now in present time. I don’t know if elves in this world stops aging physically at puberty but my theory is she’s at least 1500 years old? Lol
More than 1000 less than 1500. She was born after the Mythical age which was 1500 ago. She is relatively young by elf standards, there just aren't many elves left. Older elves do look somewhat older.
Frieren and Himmel have a LOT of baggage between them. All I'm gonna say on that. Did you notice how she said "a mere ten year adventure?" Her body language tone of voice, and inflections have all changed from when she said it in earlier episodes. Also, there's a reason Frieren doesn't make much of anything having to do with her.
A little late seeing that this is over a month old, but the first 4 episodes were supposed to be seen together, in Japan they were released as one, it was Crunchyroll who decided to separate them into four episodes, although they were released together at least.
Check out the English translation of all the characters and places names. They are all German and all have importance. For example Himmel means sky and heaven.
At that time, Japanese anime was broadcast at the same time students watched it at home, coinciding with the Japanese school period. 6th year of elementary school, 3rd year of junior high school, and 3rd year of high school. The same goes for Attack on Titan. Works at the time, such as NARUTO and BLEACH, had stories that were original to the anime, or the original stories were expanded or changed to suit the anime. Therefore, the story was not perfect. So was Fullmetal Alchemist. "Fullmetal Alchemist" is a faithful remake of the original work by the same anime staff that worked on "Demon Slayer: ." Demon Slayer: and Fullmetal Alchemist are the only works that have completed both the original work and anime in the most beautiful way. Soso's Free Ren is a truly wonderful animation. It is delicately drawn in a form that is the closest to the manga's expression, which is unusual for an anime.

I was wondering if you guys were gonna start reactions to Bleach? part 1 and 2 of the final arc is currently out, this would be a great time to get into Bleach and get caught up.
I love how Heiter and Eisen plotted a whole main storyline quest for Frieren behind her back😂😅. That is some boss level friendship right there.

Plus he spent 50 years in close proximity to the shadow dragon horn with its evil aura.
Please keep doing these 2 episode releases on Frieren, it fits the show to get more than a episodes worth of content at the time ^^

Y'all are gonna go for a RIDE this season
Not a fact at all, but i have a theory the evil horn he kept for Frieren made him age faster.
