    When I was a kid with no sense of mortality I would go to the fast food place to have a burger and always smoked a cigarette after.
    Always felt guilty about smoking because it was"bad for me."
    Nobody said a thing about the burger being twice as bad as the one cigarette after!

    Sadly it doesn't factor in the 20 odd years of suffering from co-morbidity diseases and medication side effects prior to dying early from said bad lifestyle and diet choices. How many good living years are actually lost through extreme chronic diseases?

    What's the life expectancy loss for each night of insufficient sleep? I need that stat, I never get proper sleep

      @@Arthurnate ha, it might in my case, I don't get anxiety or anything, I'm just impulsive and have diagnosed ADHD, so getting into bed just isn't stimulating enough

      Get some morning sunlight before 9am but ideally you'd wanna get that sunlight quickly after waking. Itll set your circadian rhythm and stop looking at bright and overhead light before 9:45pm so that you don't stay awake.

      I have found that eating a low fat whole food plant-based diet, high in fruits and plenty of exercise, I sleep way more deeply and I need less hours of sleep and tons of energy. I am 55 and kids less than half my age can't keep up with me.

      @@pusanghalaw No one. There is literally no such thing as ethically raising animals to be tortured and killed for your entertainment. Also, there is nothing brave about killing yourself or others through diet.
      It depends on why the person is plant-based or vegan. Some people do because they know someone else who did or are just trying to get clout on youtube. But others saw the suffering the animals go through and decided they weren't going to pay for that.
      I actually went vegan for humanitarian reasons. When COVID-19 happened, I researched zoonotic diseases and found out we literally farm these pandemics. Bird flu, swine flu (there has been something like FIVE new strains of the H1N1 swine flu virus discovered between 2020 and today), mad cow disease, influenza, MERS, SARS 1 and 2 (COVID-19 is SARS 2), the common cold, salmonella, E. coli, and sooooo many other diseases come from animals. How many pandemics do you want to have? Once you know eating animals isn't even good for human health, it feels like insanity to keep choosing to pay for that. THEN I researched the disgusting shitshow that is the FDA and USDA laws and reports surrounding animal "welfare". I know what diseases these animals have per the USDA's reports. Nah, I'm good. I don't want to eat leukemia or AIDS or an animal that was fed euthanized cats or dogs or even its own species or plastic. I'm good. Nor do I want aid in the creation of antibiotic resistance which will kill millions of people or hasten the environmental destruction that's going to kill all of us in about 30 years.

    There should be another measure. Like comparing the life style of someone at age 60 or 65 who has eaten meat daily but modestly in there mind and the lifestle of someone at 65 who was eating low fat at 65 15 years of plant based eating. Which is still active. I see a drastic difference compared to myself and my peers. Its night and day. It seems.

    The conclusion here is so important - the control group showed worsening in disease progression (despite making some reduction in meat consumption). One does indeed need to go very far in the direction of WFPB nutrition. Great video - the concept of microlives is very useful.

    No question that the quality of health of the WFPB diet consumer is better than a carnivore. We have more energy, think more clearly, and are free from chronic disease. Our peers are suffering from a lifetime of eating animals…some don’t know, others don’t believe. The older you get, the more obvious this truth. Quality beats quantity. Great work, Dr. Greger.

    I find the correlation between smoking cigarettes and drinking beer or being overweight highly unlikely. It doesn't pass the smell test. I know you're just reading off a study, but given how much we know about the detriments of smoking, and you you're self have spoken about how it is the most dangerous thing you can do, that it is equal to having one beer. By the way, I don't drink beer, I just find it hard to believe.

    This is definitely a volume problem. If you eat X infrequently, probably not going to do you in unless you choke on it. If you eat X frequently, but in small volumes, you probably will feel the impact. But eat X all the time in sufficient quantity....you've done it.

    What is said about longevity is also true about quality of life. If you make all these foolish lifestyle choices you will never be the best version of yourself. You will basically be dumber (lifestyle affects brain functioning), have less energy, be more emotionally unstable, etc.

    What about process Beyound and Impossible burgers? I don't eat meat barely anymore ( I still call fish meat because the source had eyes) but I wonder about the vegan process stuff.

      The studies have shown that the even the processed plant burgers result in better health outcomes than real flesh from another being. Yes, fish is meat. Excellent source of toxins, potential parasites, and other food born illness. I would suggest watching dominion and seaspiracy. Personally, I really like the durianrider style of plant based eating because I feel the best and can stay lean while eating a lot of calories. It’s really helped my athletic performance.

    This theory doesn't take into account the fact that the body heals from past insults. So theoretically you can get all your microlives back after a lifetime of eating hotdogs. Alternatively you could be a vegan until 30, then die of heart disease at 40 because you spent your the following 10 years pigging out on sausages and cheese. Not an effective measurement, imo.

      I eat a 100% vegan mostly whole plant food based diet, but I had to both exercise and figure out the right amount to eat. I do not feel that I've mastered this, but I have reduced my BMI to the 23 range. I did the super slow weight loss method of 2 pounds per month for 2 years. I've learned that if I don't exercise, I can eat 2300 to maintain. I'm 5'11' and weigh 175lbs. If I workout for an hour, I can have an additional 400-500 calories. My biggest struggle was learning consistency. It's easy to go 1000 calories over on some days and wipe out a whole week's worth of weight loss.

      Do not underestimate the power of fasting &intermittent fasting. I was type 2 for 10 yeard. Then went vegetarian/vegan. Stayed type 2 until I discovered 8/16 IF. Lost weight & reversed my type 2. Now a happy 70 year old with no meds & no health problems. Yeah!

    My grandmother turned 106 in may this year. She takes no meds and she ate meat. She was born a true Cajun her parents came from France and settled in Louisiana. So she grew up eating meat never exercised my grandfather (her husband) died at 90 he chewed beech nut tobacco everyday which he told me he started when he was 5 he also ate red meat and never exercised. So I’m thinking your math examples can not be applied to everyone, some people are genetically predisposed to health problems and some aren’t. By the way Winston Churchill I believe died at 91 I have seen many stories stating that he drank a fifth of scotch a day ate his steaks rare and he smoked cigars

    So what I've worked out if the relationship is linear, for every cigarette and beer there should be a corresponding 2 serves of vegetables to not have an effect on life expectancy. Bars should be selling a beer with a cigarette and 2 serves of vegetables as a life preserving idea, pretty sure during the Bush administration Fries were declared a vegetable serve and so was Ketchup. This is perfect, I wonder if the dextrose or pure glucose on the fries is considered another vegetable in which case a bar could legally sell the beer/cigarette/sugar coated fries with sauce package as a likely life extender.

    What you worrying us about longevity for? Don't you think everyone's just about had enough of all this "advice" after the horrendous health "advice" we all go pumped over the past two years? I think it's NOT about how long you live, it's about how happy you're life is and how much joy you can make in whatever time you have left here on earth. I'm 67 and I'm not at all worried about when I have to go, I will go knowing it was all good, no regrets. Stop worrying you life away about what best to eat or not to eat... just enjoy.

      Look I am not going to tell you how to live your life. ME PERSONALLY I want my last days to be as enjoyable as all of the days leading up to it. Also I am shooting to live post 100!! Granted I won't know my last day till I get there, but many studies have shown and many people have confirmed that a WFPB diet does increase ones life expectancy.(well technically it isn't increasing it, it is just not shorting it like other habits do) Along with the perk of not having ED! 🤣

      People are so fearful, especially since Covid started up up. But even before that, most have been looking towards "experts" for some some kind of advice from a sort of 'user manual' on what they should eat, dink and do. But there is No user manual to refer to, no manufacturer to contact, no showroom dealer, no warranty, no replacement for faulty parts, and there's no "one size fits all" approach to getting the best out of the body type/model you have.. The body knows what it wants and what it needs, it's more intelligent than most people give it credit for, and the user manual (if you're looking for one) is observance and intuition (inner learning).
      It runs best on a proper human diet consisting of ONE ingredient foods from natural sources. No sugars, no dubious processed oils, no excessively high carbs, no processed Frankenstein foods. The saying goes... "If you eat from a box, you'll soon leave in a box"
      When it comes to meat, humans could only evolve to the more advance state that we are now, due to consuming natural saturated fats from animal sources. Sugars were only consumed from seasonal fruits when ready, this signalled to the body that winter was approaching and it needed to store extra fat to carry through the lean winter months. High sugars from fruit was never supposed to be consumed all throughout the year!
      So when it comes to the dangers of consuming red meats, it would be true IF you're on a high carb, high sugar diet all through the year, because these cause so much inflammatory responses due to the higher production of insulin, which is needed to combat excessive/constant increases in blood sugar.

    Someone said to me that the harm is in processed meat and not unprocessed meat. Is there enough evidence for the harm in all types of meat?

      Until he responds with the best data, a good place to start on that question is a book called “The China Study.”
      It documents the largest human study in nutrition and mortality, and the general interpretation of the data is that meat, dairy, and milk are always correlated with higher disease and death, except where it’s a very small part of the diet and is consumed to meet minimal calorie needs (if I remember correctly, it has to be less than 10 percent of the diet, and not bring total protein past 10% of macronutrient intake).
      Likewise, even high protein diets from plant sources that have a more animal-source amino acid profile will increase cancer growth.
      The only criticism of it I have not heard addressed by its proponents is that some of the detrimental effects of diet also correlate highly with urban living, which means more pollution and less sleep….
      But animal and animal-like protein are definitely part of the issue, even in places where the meat is very “clean.”
      Be sure to get the second edition of the book, since it should address a lot of the criticisms since it first came out, as well as present newer corroborating data.

      my nana and all her sisters all made it into their mid to late nineties , they all ate un processed meat every day but they all ate steamed veg and salad every day also, very little bread and almost nothing sweet. we all grow our own veg, fruit, nuts , chickens, etc . the diet is probably 80% plant based.

      If u eat meat do u die? no, it's the amount u accumulate over a week. The amount that sits in the arteries from saturated fats.
      The balance on your plate shouldn't exceed the veggies/salads part. The focus should actually be the veggies.
      Blue zones are the best example of healthy eating and lifestyle factors for longevity. And not just long lives, but without disease and lower ailments.
      Just ask yourself how u fuel your body. What goes in it and what it gives u, or taxes from u.

      Think of it this way. There is compelling evidence that all kinds of meat are a detriment to your overall health through study of the effects it has on your body. That doesn't mean necessarily that your body can't deal with some harm and manage to live a full life. Alcohol is clearly toxic, but in moderation most people aren't going to significantly reduce their lifespan. It is hard to measure how one bad habit impacted a large enough sample size of people long term who all probably had numerous bad habits. When people say this they are talking about long term studies. It's pretty hard to be confident in measuring something that shaves at most a couple years off your life. So, since processed meat is much worse than unprocessed meat it puts it over the edge to being able to measure a statistically significant difference.

    You said meat then used a burger as an example. So you also have the bun which has gluten from pesticide ridden terminator wheat, which along with the fat from meat activating the Randall cycle. Then it has most likely some sort of dressing or sauce with processed sugars and dangerous seed oils. So nice try. It’s not the meat

    2. This is statistics, not medical science
    3. Do people actually live this long to count other people's lives???

    5. What a lot of people don't realize is that burgers, hotdogs and sandwiches have bread on them. How come these studies say nothing about how healthy they are?
    6. The vegan message carries a lot of guilt and fear, eg. think about the time lost with family etc 🤦🏽‍♂️
    7. To the very end, there is no medical science or evidence, only reference to other people.
    I eat both meat and fresh fruits and a few vegetables and love a happy and healthy life. I have been vegan before but this is WAY better for me, no stats, just science and personal experience!

      3) how would a doctor who is alive now know how long their patient is really going to live?
      4) it may be fairytales to people like you because people like me have literally lived through all this stuff, so I'm not speaking from theory here, dead serious.
      5) what do the carb studies say? That carbs are healthy?
      6) Dr Gregor literally says it in the video, I'm not projecting.
      7) I'm referring to the very last point where Dr Gregor references another doctor. He doesn't show us the work of that doctor but only the opinion of that other doctor. Where is that science?
      I'm really not trying to be rude or hard, I'm just pointing my opinion based on the fact that I used to follow this science and now that I have explored the other side, I see holes in it. But I encourage each person to have their own journey...

    Your mixing processed meat with grass fed beef in your argument - again - . WTF. These two things are not the same!!!!!!! Even at 0:41 the recommendations are for people to cut down on consumption of processed meat. That's the only issue here. They don't even mention cutting down consumption of unprocessed quality meat.

    Its funny, because last year a man named Donald Gorske ate 32,340 bigmacs, in 2023 he will be 70 years, he ate a burger everyday for 50 years, he lost already 55 years since his 22 eating bigmacs, but still alive with almost 70, how is this possible? probably he does a lot of exercise and eat a lot of vegetables, kkkkkkkkk i dont think so 😅

      Let me break down the math for you. Each burger takes off 30 min of your life. So 2 burgers takes off 1 hour. 32,340 burgers is 16,170 hours off of his life. Break that down into days and that's 673.75. Broken down into years that's 1.85 years taken off of his life

      It's possible because he eats 2 big macs and a soda every day. This is 90% of his daily diet about 1700 calories which is low since he is 6'2" and 180 lbs. He walks 6 miles every day and has a clean bill of health and a total cholesterol of 160 mg/dL. He almost never ate the fries or the desserts because his wife was a nurse and maybe told him those were cooked in trans fats which could really mess up your health.
