I could write a thesis on the easter eggs. Of course my favorite is his mom Suzie on violin. I love how George Gershwin's face pops up right as JC quotes Fascinating Rhythm in his piano solo. The cameo by his Moroccan Gnawa friend Hamid El Kasri near the end, playing the wonky gnawa groove which is so similar to the wonky samba groove that permeates the arrangement. The hyperspeed resrospective of his entire career in the first few seconds. The backwards quote of Lionel's original, also in the beginning. How he plays one of his Grammy's as a percussion instrument right after the wiggle wiggle, in a song that itself went on to win a Grammy. Steve Vai and Quincy on chords. How the bass doubles the piano at the end of the super fast piano solo. How the Oakwood Aeolians join in in the mid song crescendo. The bear hat, given to him by Genevieve Artadi of Knower. The African drum he scratches early in the first verse as a shout out to his song Hideaway. If ur a producer you cannot miss his Logic Breakdown of this song, many secrets are unlocked.
There's a little 2 second shot of Lionel Ritchie dancing in the lower right corner just a couple of minutes in.
around 3:40 he plays one of his Grammys as a percussion instrument
Run out of words for this guys talent. And just to think he only lives up the road from me.
@@robote7679 There is also a clip of Lionel Ritchie clapping his hands and he says I Love It.
@@richardberent2350 How about when he plays a tub full of silverware.
He wrote the orchestration for this on the fucking plane rhe day before they were recording. Richer scale musical genius. Such a beautiful fusion of classical training, jazz and creativity. Go Jacob.
You know there is somebody name Richter, right?
I feel you, but Richter scale is not an indication of intensity. It's like saying "fahrenheit scale of genius" or "metric scale of genius." Might need to say "OFF the richter scale genius" to indicate his genius is off the scale.
imagine you wathching nf and someone just writing masterpiece next to you
There is a login session breakdown video by Jacob of this tune. It's great. He says he wrote the arrangement the night before the plane flight, wrote it in 6 hours, go to 5:00 of this video. ruclips.net/video/UAMc4K_NXsA/видео.html
I’m a Brazilian musician.Maybe one of the main thing that you guys missed is the “batucada”,a very popular percussion rhythm ,that’s used mostly during Carnaval(Mardy Gras)by Escolas de Samba(Samba Schools). It’s hard do explain. But Jacob not only got the essence of it,as he used it to perfection!!!It’s amazing how he could manage Brazilian’s blood tropical veins running.Excuse me for the rotten English.Love from Brazil.
I run a music night for our strata, mostly older folks. I use 8 speakers to fill the room with great sounds. Large tv screen.
I played the original, Lionell's live version 15 years later which is also awesome. Then I play this video followed by JC's live version with the Markopole orchestra. People were fascinated, impressed, confused, but entirely happy. I was in Heaven!
I'm a pretty chill, laid back person rarely moved to strong emotional responses. For no obvious, strictly logical reason, watching the music video for this piece almost always brings me to tears. It's so beautiful.
Same here. It’s not related to the emotional theme of the music, it’s the overwhelming beauty.
He's brought me to tears many times.
Jacob is godlike with musical expression. So dope to witness.
Lifelong jazz pianist here. This is probably my 30th view and I still get tears when the music opens into the live crowd singalongs and the hundred JC voices. This is a magnificent opus, and nothing he has done since striles me as deeply - though there is some great stuff, none as powerful or moving as this.
How to win a Grammy, by Jacob Collier
Step 1. Play a Grammy on said song,
Step 2. Win Grammy
Step 3: Repeat
My easter egg; the legendary Metropole Orkest (orchestra). Established shortly after World War II by Dutch government to bring people hope and entertainment. Ever since, it’s a leading orchestra in its genre, playing jazz, pop, classical, film/TV and world music and everything in between and around that. 20 Grammy nominations and they won 3.
Dude respected and improved upon the song all at the same time.
He's got Take 6 with some great harmonies. This guy is going to be considered as one of the greats.
He's an amazing musician. Plays all instruments. Heck...Quincy Jones is his Mgr. The guy hangs with him and Hancock. He goes to MIT and teaches music theory. Just found him today. Can't stop watch his videos. Lol
Yes.....love this guy. 👍🏻
And that voice! Smooth as silk through the whole huge range!
Watch his concert Live in Madrid. Egad. The Mozart of our age.
Onedayatagirl you a true music fan. Not many people know take6 but goodness they are top with harmonies
Is going to be???? He already is, and has been considered one of the greatest to ever come along!! LOL
HE IS A GENIUS !!!!!!!!
I cannot wait for the day when the rest of the world realises how monumental this music is. It gives me shivers every single time. An absolute majesty. Love, love, love, love, love, love :))))))
Jacob Collier takes the music to a next level with respect to all genres. Absolutely wonderful! :-)
Dude moves between genres like a regular musician changes keys.
4:42 "Yo, man" says it all. I couldn't express it better myself. Those harmonies are KILLER!
Oooh... "A musical gumbo." Hell yeah, man! Great description!
The best description of Jacob I've heard is that he has completely surrendered to who he is. I love that about him.
Let's take a moment to appreciate the cutlery percussion. Clearly without it the whole song wouldn't work.
That was musically, whimsically, & delightfully insane!!!
One of Jacob's easter eggs seems to be "wiggle wiggle wiggle" :)
Why tho🙄
@@thegreedyone8551 no idea. Just seems to be in several of his tunes. Is there a behind the scenes answer?
@@markepperson6311 I recently found out about him so idk much
His favorite artist is Jason Derulo
Quincy Jones is my favorite Easter Egg, for sure! Love, love, love Quincy Jones.
That was STEVE VAI!! On the square with the chords… wow wow
And was that Quincy F’n Jones at 7:31??!!
My favorite detail? (Well, one of them) At 6:13 - Take 6 bass voice, Alvin Chea singing a low, low "All Night" and you can hear Jacob's genuine reaction, laughing.
(He talks about it here, from his logic session live breakdown of the song: ruclips.net/video/UAMc4K_NXsA/видео.html )
I’ve never caught that!
I subscribed because of this video. Thank you MAN! 🙌🏼🙏👍🏽.
My favorite part begins at. 1:03 when a Brazilian style carnival percussion rhythm starts... and it doesn’t end till the end.
Love 💗 the whole thing.
I'm not musically trained but this is unbelievable. Some of the vocals remind me of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson's songs.
As you probably know, he did a version of the Beach Boys' song "In My Room".
The greatest legend of all in this video is Jacob Collier. The greatest musical genius in my lifetime and I'm pretty old.
...favourite Easter egg is the quick shot of George Gershwin. "Porgy And Bess" started it all.
I love the Artists Collaborations with the Metropole Orchestra... Soo much Fun.
MUSIC... the great unifier.... That's why musicians should rule the world!!!
Just witnessing the beginnings of a musical genius🦾👌
collier really decided to sweep on the bass like that. guys not human. that build at the end. so epic man
"That mix is phenomenal."
I need that on a shirt
The freedom jazz dance lick the saxes play a few times, catches me everytime
jacob collier is obnoxiously good at music
Adam neely, I see you
damn, this is it
He's almost as good as Valeriy Stepanov, the MONSTER musician few in the USA have ever heard:
Try his tune, "Hold Onto Hope": ruclips.net/video/qq2tu-vAOns/видео.html
@@brianmi40 definetly sounds nice, at the end of the day i guess it come down to music taste
Repetition legitimizes
Stank face: the single highest praise one person can bestow another imo
Nicely done, Keith. I do so enjoy watching folks enjoy JC as much as I do.
HE PUT LIONEL RITCHIE'S FACE IN THE CIRCLE OF FIFTHS
first time ever hearing someone call him “jake” hahahah caught me off guard
😂😂😂😂 it just felt right
@@keithclassiq Sign of affection!
I've been away for a couple of days. Got home went to RUclips and this great reaction is at the top of the homepage. What a treat. Exceptional reaction to an amazing version of this classic. Love both your comments and the positive energy with which you deliver them. This was a treat and I couldn't have asked for a better video to come home to. Thanks. You've got my sub but you deserve way more. They'll come.
The first person holding the paper with the chords is Quincy Jones. The second person holding the paper with the chords... is that Steve Vai?
His music is manic, there is just so much is happening. What are we supposed to call this- psychotic jazz for the youtube generation? I don't particularly love his voice, my brain can hardly process the chaotic energy of his music- but I can't stop listening to this little weirdo. Im obsessed.
Jc is beyond brilliant I absolutely live this song and what he has done with it I'm totaly blown away
I never get tired of watching this vid absolutely brilliant 👏 👌
Beautiful and captivating, thank you. And thank you for leaving the vocorder on the shelf...your genius does not need gimmicks to stand out. :)
This is an awesome song and video by the amazing Jacob, I’m gunny have to watch it over cause it’s packed full of fantastic chords and video footage that is so fun and energetic! I LOVE IT!
Sincere thanks for this!! "Musical Gumbo" - amen!
It's the fact that he made the orchestra arrangement 6 hours before he met them.
Hit that "Take 6" chorus of sound, right there!!!. If you would like an example: I highly recommend listening to the song "Spread Love", by Take 6 and you'll get that reference. And for those who do not know; Brian McKnight's brother is one of the singers in Take 6.
U r not wrong.... and actually, take a look... That's Take 6 singing with him. So glad to see he's not hiding his inspiration. And that other ppl even know who Take 6 is, lol!!
Easter eggs... after the intro, the instruments pretty much drop out and we're left with just Take 6 and Jacob. That is so warm with so much depth, complete ear candy.
And who didn't smile when his mom appeared for a fraction of a second?
I think it's cool when you stop to give your opinion. If I wanted to watch it without interruptions I could just watch the original :) Good vid!
Thanks for reacting to great contemporary talents like Jacob. Since you have been covering Marc Rebillet, you have to check out 'day 16: Amsterdam'! Real hidden gem ;)
Another awesome song to react to is Jacob Collier's cover of Michael Jackson's Don't Stop Til You Get Enough.
Oh! Pero que me estaba perdiendo. Llegué aquí sin querer. Gracias dios mío 😱😳😍👏🏾👏🏾
Great, Keith!!
Just discovered Jacob today. He’s wonderful.
Yes!!!
JC, talented, gifted, blessed.
I'm glad with all the talent he has he still remembers who set the table before him. Quincy too was a child genius... and opted to produce rather than just put together a band and cover other's material. This is both a collage and smorgas board of treats. I've heard some of his other tunes and think this one is his best.
Listen to his live performance of Make Me cry Mahagony Session , or hallelujah (live on stream aid) performances , these are some of his most touching and raw performances. Absolutely stunning , yull love them.
This is an impressive triumph !!!
Inspirational !
One word...Genius!!!!
one day this amazing boy is going to die... and absurdly proactively I am already deeply saddened know just how huge a loff that is going to be for people.....
It's cool that you reacted to this song. It's fascinating.
Also, Keith, has anyone told you that you sound a lot like Charlie Murphy (RIP)? If I close my eyes, it's uncanny.
LOL thats a first thanks for the comment peace and blessings to you!
I can't believe I've never heard of him until now! All I can think of is what sort of musical monstrosity would be born if he ever did a collaboration with Leo P.
Keep going on Jacob's stuff. But you should check out Snarky Puppy - Lingus (We Like It Here)
I second that. And Dirty Loops :-)
I THIRD that!!!
Or the only other keyboard player on the planet that Corey Henry would happily tip his hat to, which few in the USA have ever heard of: Valeriy Stepanov.
Try his tune, "Hold Onto Hope": ruclips.net/video/qq2tu-vAOns/видео.html
Now, Valeriy playing his tune "Hi!" with Snarky Puppy, that would be SOMETHING!
This is if the High School Musical Songs were actually good
Oh my goodness this is out of this world. Take 6 harmonious
Best easter egg imo at 6:59 - Lionel Richie "I love it"
This jacob collier is good at music, he should try to take piano lessons!
The whole thing is THE easter egg lol
Wonderful
sheeesh!
Damn. Just…damn.
No one's mentioned yet that he quotes from ABC by the Jackson 5 at 7:22.
:: George Gershwin appearing for the Fascinating Rhythm nod :) ::
George Gershwin, Fascinating Rhythm
Steve Vai = an Easter egg I did not expect.
Would love to see you react to some stuff from Djesse Vol 3
I must be the only person on planet earth to actually not like a single Collier work. It's just way too much, to me feels like a cup of espresso with 5 tablespoons of sugar and 5 goops of molasses + an extra bit of honey.
No doubt fam, I respect your opinion and honesty ✊🏾
he did the mix himself and all video edits
That bass at 7:08 wow
7:11-7:15 my sentiments exactly!!! Lmbo!!
At 4:35 he sings the first row of lyrics from his song Djesse like he does in other songs
Awesome reaction, as usual! OK, since you've started down this road, you may as well check out "Moon River" (you kind of have to at this point). Also, check out his logic session breakdown of "All Night Long" ruclips.net/video/UAMc4K_NXsA/видео.html (just for yourself)
Looks like we have to make that move ✊🏾 this was nuts
Yeah, definitely check out that logic session breakdown when you get a chance. It's mind blowing!
@@victorsixtythree BTW, have you seen his latest post from Instagram (ruclips.net/video/pqcFk8l8b3U/видео.html)? Somebody asks him about polyrhythms and he demonstrates 2:3:4:5:6 using only the fingers of his left hand. Um... ?!
I agree. Jacob is far out!
Jacob is good, but simply good. He is MULTIBRAVO on different plains of existance.
I saw pictures of Lionel Ritchie, but did he actually participate in it? Maybe I need to watch a couple(!) more times…
Hi! Can you also react to SB19? They are from the Philippines. They just uploaded their latest MV entitled WHAT❓ the leader wrote, compose and co-produce the song. the youngest is the creative director and the Main Vocalist choreographed the song too :)
Fun fact: according to a friend of the production they have limited budget for this MV. The production is All Filipino. The scene on desert is actually Lahar , volcanic mudflow and not sand. All of it was shot Here in the Philippines.
Yel for sure! I’ll go check them out
Thank a lot ! Will definitely wait for it ☺️
Jacob is like Monkey D. Luffy of music :)
Facts 💯
Man jacob has some logic breakdowns in his channel, 1 song its 1 hour video its insane
Yea man I’ve seen those, it’s insane, so much depth and all around the board🔥👌
DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMN! #nuffsaid
You can see why MUSICIANS want to work with him. Finally someone that they can work with and show their true talent. Someone that KNOWS music and complex chord changes. 😮
Elite talent. Check out Dirty Loops "Work Shit Out"
Yes! Agreed. As a Brit, pity about the lyric, but the frenetic but controlled musicianship is wonderful - and connects with me more than JC. Just saying.
I LOVED abc...123
2:54 is so sims 2
Give a REACT to arguably the FUNKIEST and best RIGHT HAND in the WORLD on keyboards, VALERIY STEPANOV. The MONSTER musician, composer, play about any instrument, YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF.
Try his tune, "Hold Onto Hope": ruclips.net/video/qq2tu-vAOns/видео.html
Now you need to check out Louis Cole.
This is samba.
Very impressive and technical👍👍🙂...I still prefere the original😁.
You know Jacob Collier and Snarky Puppy have a live track out there too, right?
I think i heard the lick.
Innovative elements don't save it from overproduction.
A Lawsuit honeypot.
